The Cobra release is highly suspicious... Some animal rights groups have been known to release animals like cobras & baby tigers to promote fear and "raise red flags." If you have a problem with the loss of 1 human life, then why aren't you protesting cars? Toasters? Bathtubs? Dogs? Horses? Cows? Hurricanes? (Actually, that one would be nice) ;)
They think about 1/2 the pythons in the everglades died during the recent cold snap.
@LottoWinner999 hmm.. 8 people have died in 20 years. That's less than 1 person per year dying from a python. How many people die from dogs each year? Gonna ban dogs next? How about from horses? And please provide a reference of where you've read cobras breeding in Florida. Hurricane Andrew is the main reason so many burmese pythons were released in Florida. MOST reptile owners are responsible owners. BTW, I own 2 non-native boas, probably extinct in the wild due to Madagascar's deforestation.
Hi, FYI, from my understanding, USARK support banning ONLY the import burmese pythons. HOWEVER, we have plenty being bred in the USA right now. The president of USARK has large pythons himself. Please check the USARK page and see for yourself! Please support them, because they are the MAIN reason we haven't lost our rights to keep reptiles (remember HR669? We beat it because of USARK rousing the "reptile nation!") :) I am very pro-burmese, as well! I love them!!!
Vending machines kill more people each year than pythons. Many, many more. But you don't see bans on vending machines, right? You just see new safeguards in place, like chains or bars to keep the machine from falling over on someone. The snake "problem" can be just as easily solved through other means than just banning. Put safeguards in place, demand permits and such. But banning them will do no good whatsoever, in fact it will cripple a trade that brings in $3 billion in anual trade.
so these newbies tend to let the animal either go or rehome them to another unexperienced handler and eventually the snake is roming free scraring the crap out of people so that importation ban should eliminate problems like those and i realize hr2811 passed and im sorry but the bill does not say that you must give up your pet you just can't buy or breed anymore suck boys i might be wrong but its not always what we want and trust me i love my snakes but lets keep on fighting boys we can do it!!
you guys are missing the point usark is and most big snake owners are for the banning of IMPORTATION only but they were or are trying to fight for the ones already in peoples homes and allow to continue breeding the ones already here this will iliminate alot of irrisponsible or unknowlageble owners to obtain a wc burm.. wc burms are not as tame or easy to tame as cb burms and or as cheap to maintain beacause of vet bills like deworming picky eaters etc etc so these newbies ....look at next post
atleast somone agrees with me im against it myself but USARK will do thier damnest to help ban them im a rescue and i own a brown burm myself and have other snakes that are rescues but will not let them go adopted if people dont know how to care for them , but USARK has got the bill passed now i wont support them and no one else should either.

I know, they are beautifull misunderstood reptiles, but they won't be around for long unless we stop S373 / HR2811.
