  • Always love the old Yes footage... when they were young, before drugs and drink impaired, and they didn't despise one another. LOVE this!!

  • WAKE UP AND BE! Always a fantastic spiritual message...

  • I'm always amazed when I listen to Banks-era Yes and can hear a number of similarities in style with Howe.

  • One of my favorite albums is the "Millineum (sp) Collection"

with old 1967-69 recordings of BBC sessions -- this is one of the songs on this live album--which does have also produced singles and memories of radio broadcasters introducing Yes for the first time...

Also on the album are Somethings Coming, a Beatles song and a Stephen Stills song-wildly good versions

  • I've lost count -- but I think I saw them 5 times and each time was whoa---they are so mindbendingly talented. You just can't believe it--a friend cries its so good live.

  • I love this version--Yes can do anything and wow make u feel so good.

  • I'm a Steve Howe fanatic & guitarist and always appreciated Peter Banks. I just saw Jon & Rick in Atlantic City last night; and I think he is really irreplaceable in Yes and didn't see the group called "Yes" with Benoit.

  • I wish you could click on an isolated 'Bill Cam'

  • @drj602 This alongside two unreleased songs from this session (and a lot of other gems) has been released on Voiceprint's "The Lost Broadcast". It has footage of Bill headtotoe on the other two tracks. Especially Survival. User "devoutyesfan" has uploaded it alongside almost all Yes DVDs in full HD!

  • They used to show this on MTV's Closet Classics Capsule. I learned a lot from that show.

  • Back then Yes was powered by Hammond and Rickenbacker.

  • Bass from hell! Squire's the man.

  • @cremesupreme OTSWOF, Heart fo the Sunrise and Tempus Fugit are the best bass riffs if you ask me.

  • tempo to fast in this performance

  • peter banks draagt tegenwoordig een petje.....

  • this shows the live energy that early yes had with peter banks

  • WOW!

  • Absolutely the best lineup of YES. With Banks they had balls, and with Kaye they had glorious technicolour.

  • @jonsilence Fully agreed!

  • ...how tall is Chris Squire? He always looks so tall to me....but he's fantastic. " )

  • Great song, powerful Bruford's drums! Tony Keye on organ was amazing too. Excellent video.

  • @RandomConcepts Totally agree. In my naivety at the time I also thought that "Everydays" was original .alas ,old age etc (You Tube), I now find it's a cover of a Buffalo Springfield song.... (I could never work out the line about 10 bucks for plastic cherries ") ,seemed so American at the time..not English Yes.(they got away with some covers ..Ehh)..Anyway I see we're (UK)are being subjected to the Monkees revival tour again in 2011. "Take the last train anywhere....!!!!"

  • the greatest group to walk the face of the earth, can someone contradict this? ok so shut up and listen to the chosen ones

  • rick wakemans having a seizure rofl

  • @LeJaxx That's Tony Kaye, not Wakeman.

  • @LeJaxx Tony Kaye. Not Rick Wakeman

  • THAT was the true 'YES' at their very, very best. Too bad they became dinosaurs soon thereafter. This is their true loveliness that caught fan's hearts all around the globe... FANTASTIC!!!

  • In my humble opinion it was Jon Anderson's vocals that gave Yes their unique character.

  • @Odysseusgoestotown No, what was great about YES was that EVERYTHING about them was special, from Squire's bass to bruford to the harmonies etc!

  • Best lineup of the band....when Banks and Kaye left they lost their balls and color.

  • This song is amazing! The original version, by Richie Havens, is excelent, but this one is superior!! Great bass line, excelent drum work and perfect sintony between the hammond and the guitar. The energy reminds me The Who, but the technique is from another level.

  • @Metsengneizer This does not sound that far away from early Deep Purple. Sometimes I have wondered - because Howe brought composition power to the band- whether they would have managed without Wakeman since Tony Kaye was already adding synthetiser to the band.

  • When you hear how good this sounds as a live band you wonder what the hell they (Jon and Chris) were thinking by infesting this album with a faux-Phil Spector overblown orchestra clusterfuck...some of the best Yes songs ever are their renditions of other bands, they really add something totatlly unique to them...the Beatles and Byrds covers are just amazing, nothing could touch that band!!!!

  • That one person who disliked this video must've had butter smothered on the mouse! Best cover of a Richie Havens song I've ever heard.

  • yes is a great band! so much feeling in its songs!

  • Underrated.

  • I'm 7 and I love Yes. I'm 12 and I love Yes. I'm 2 and I love Yes. I'm 58 and I love Yes. Does anyone ever actually care how old you are? I'm pretty sure it's the music that matters, now how impressive you believe your age to be in relation to when the music was released.

  • lead my sheep! into green pastures and restoreth my soul, surely goodness and mercy shall follow, eh!

  • this is from the 60's 70's....its unbelievable.....

  • Onde posso achar Sweet Dreams na versão de estúdio? é tão difícil.

  • Peter Banks parece -se com Pete Townshend do The Who tanto fisicamente quanto no estilo de tocar!

  • This version is so fast! Good to see that it's not just amateur bands that floor it sometimes when going for it live. Chris's bass is positively barrelling along!

  • Que música é capaz de sobreviver ao tempo e ficar pra história? Somente o Rock 'n roll mesmo.

  • Good to hear some of this but where's I See You,Every Little Thing,Sweetness,Survival,Then,Everydays,Harold Land,Looking Around,The Prophet,Clear Days,Astral Traveller-the best songs from their 1st 2 albums?Yes did not start with Howe, they were the most unique and revolutionary band 2 albums before Howe joined. There was nothing out back then that resembled their new sound in the least, not even The Nice.People still haven't figured it out after all these years and I guess they never will.

  • Chris Squire what a player!!

  • The is when Yes was good...pre-Howe, pre-Wakeman.

  • im a poor student of 20 but i try to buy every cd of Yes

    really love it

the early periode is the best i think along with Fragile and stuff

  • this is soooooo much better then owner of a lonely heart

  • I bought my first Hammond organ thanks to Tony Kaye!

  • I've had the honor to know and jam with Peter Banks back in the late 70's,in my opinion the best and most overlooked guitarist that Yes has had!!!

  • I must say, with all respect to Mr. Howe who has been an incredible inspiration on my playing, I can't disagree with you. The world doesn't know about Peter Banks, but a lot of Steve's early 'signature sounds' and riffs came from Peter. I can hear PB influences in Gates! It sucks turning 50, but I am glad I was around to see yes live, beginning in the mid 70s! Great commentary, Fat.

  • @fatlizzard I like Peter Banks more than Steve Howe or Trevor Rabin..... I grew up during Trevor Rabin in Yes but I have collected and listened to classic Yes and I think Banks was way better than Howe or Rabin.

  • JUST BLAZE!!!!

  • I too am a younger fellow (23) and I absolutely LOOOVE Yes. Single most favorite band of mine. Wish I could have seen them in their prime live. I'd die happy. Also, Squire plays a mean bass line in this song. Kinda like Roundabout. Hell, they're all awesome!!

  • Beat club 1969

  • This is where it all began. The birth of progressive rock.

The album (I believe it was their 2nd ) includes an orchestra. Very ahead of their time.

  • That's correct, second album and last with the original lineup. Outshines the first album in my memory, though of course it's all very good.

  • I have the album, never thought I'd see this on video- Fantastic. Hella Tight! Thanks for posting!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BIG

  • whew! I don't think they would have the longevity they now enjoy, would it have been Fripp instead of Howe

  • @GBStuff wow. was Fripp actually considered as a Yes guitarist ?

  • @hope2prosper Not that I know of. The previous comment (which was removed by the author) postulated on "what could have been" if Fripp had joined Yes to replace Peter Banks, as opposed to Steve Howe.

  • @GBStuff Phil Collins was nearly the Yes drummer

  • @ProcolHarum1967 wow thats cool im a huge fan of both yes and genesis, so was he set to be drummer in 68 instead of bruford?

  • @nintendo64isking I don't think so I think he was going to replace him. He said in an inteview on a tv program that he was going to have an auditon but chose to audition for Genesis instead. The only thing is he joined genesis in 1970 and Bruford left Yes in 1972 so I'm not sure how the numbers work out.

  • @ProcolHarum1967 oh right thanks , i doubt the band would've wanted to get rid of bruford in 1970 though, so that is odd unless there was unstability in the band (as there always is) :)

  • @ProcolHarum1967

The version I heard is that BB was planning to leave Yes to go to University in 1970, but then changed his mind.

  • @BoBo0807 That would explain it.

  • @ProcolHarum1967 please no!

  • @flowTVY Thank god. I don't think I could follow Yes anymore if they started playing "I can't dance".

  • @GBStuff Actually, if I'm not mistaken, was asked to join Yes. Fripp had Jon Anderson sing one song on a King Crimson album. After that Crimson line-up disbanded, Anderson invited Fripp to replace Peter Banks, but turned down the offer.

  • @GBStuff According to various sources I read, Fripp was offered the job in 1970, but was sure enough of his musical direction that he would have taken over Yes, which he assumed they weren't after. Anderson sings on King Crimson's third album ("Lizard"), and Bruford of course left Yes to join Crimson in '72. They were all very friendly at that time...great that Howe got the gig, of course... but one Yes album with Fripp would have been intriguing.

  • @hope2prosper he was asked once

  • @hope2prosper he was asked once - anyway, if he had joined, he wouldnt have stayed long

  • so fast!!!!!!! :D

  • Mr. Christopher Squire!

  • yes very big in the 70s

people have forgotten how big there were

they sold out madison square gardens as much if not possibly more than zeppelin

  • Same thing with The Spectrum in Philly.

  • No wonder they used an orchestra on the studio version. This is a mess.

  • Love this song! 22 and I love Yes. Wierd huh? I personally think this kind of music needs to come back. Most of the stuff nowadays isn't up to par with great music of the 60's and 70's.

  • not werird at all. What's weird is people our age..(20's and lower) can't understand or get into this *music*

  • @ArideTWT dude im 16 i love it!

  • @hnh4 woo hoo! you rock then!!

  • @ArideTWT, im 12 and i can get into it

  • @armyofrock11, Then you rock even more!

  • @ArideTWT I'm 15 and love prog rock, like Rush and Yes, and principally those old bands

  • I started listening to Yes when I was 11....and that was 1971 - glad you guys can appreciate the Prog

  • Good music lasts forever!

  • @GBStuff I started in 1983 and was hooked by " owner of a lonely heart" and was a fan ever since....

  • @SonicBrunoth ahh i'm 15 too and i love all those bands. They've just got so much quality, the music is thought provocative and goes below the surface unlike much of today's music.

  • @SonicBrunoth I'm 23 and love prog rock as well. Listen to Camel, they are a good old prog rock band. However, my absolute favorite is YES.

  • @guidenredhawk Camel....yeh, used to listen to Moonmadness and Mirage alot...good stuff ( recommended listening )

  • @guidenredhawk I will,

  • That's a clip from a performance on the German TV programme 'Beat Club'

  • wow! at marquee! really? wonderful..

  • The 1st studio album never mesured up to their live sound at the time. This clip proves it. I'd love to have heard them at the Marquee back in the day.

  • Wow, Kaye's playing with both hands!

  • these guys were in a different league from the start

  • under rated Band

  • The band is not underrated, this line-up is. I love the 1st 2 Yes CDs as much as I love their classics

  • I'm with you. The first two albums are amazing. I wish there were a clip of Dear Father somewhere on YouTube.

  • To think I was the born the year before 98125 was released. I missed out on the golden years of Yes

  • very cool where you get this

    post more

  • me like.

  • YES - 1969

    YES - 2009

    Doesn't matter.

Drop the needle on the record anywhere !!!

  • True, because YesMusic music exists as a living entity unto itself, no matter which guys happen to be playing it.

  • @Aye90125 you know not all youths in this new generation like mainstream america. there will be bands just as good as yes in the next decade. times are really changing... again.

  • Note the theme tune from 'The Big Country' in the middle section - which follows the lyric 'wake up and be.'

  • squire's bass lol, its just so kickass man, this is great

  • Simply Sublime....

  • Happy to share this with Yes fans all over the world...I love this band to death...this video blows my mind every time I watch it

  • This was a David Foster song..... I believe!

  • Nope. This is a Richie Havens tune

  • You're right. I screwed up!

  • great song!

from "Time and a word" is not used again a symphonic band in the development of new songs, until "Magnification"

great video, I love this composition!

  • Richie Haven's tune..... No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed......... 1970.... Yes was the shit....... Tony Banks................ Phenomenal album.............. 'The Yes Album'.... Thank the LORD for the incredible music that was to come..

  • Tony Banks is the member of Genesis. You mean Peter Banks.

  • Tony Kaye

  • amen.

  • Done so fast!! Almost punk!

  • Funny you should say that cos Bruce Foxton was influenced heavily by Chris Squire's rickenbacker sound.

  • So was Mike Mills from R.E.M

  • Here I sit and enjoy this some 40 yrs. after it was recorded & and it's still better than more than 99% of todays music, whats that tell ya ?

  • I have yet to find contemporary music as inspired as the 60s and 70s.

  • You are on the fucking money, brother!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @waystedkiss are you serious?

  • well I liked the more orchestrated studio version a bit better but its great they managed to play it live this well.

  • absolute PRIME tune....didnt think they would be able to hunnle it live as well as they did back in i'day....yes!YES!yes!

  • another thing that impress me is the fact that Jon Anderson´s voice haven´t change nothing you can see a concert of him for example in 2002 and here this and it is identical

  • true - I saw them in 2002 and Jon was in top form

  • I saw them at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan back on July 27, 2002. Saw them again at the Palace (Auburn Hills, Michigan), on May 8, 2004.

Saw Jon Anderson at the Royal Oak Music Theatre back on November 20, 2005.

    All three shows were fantastic.

  • first plays of yes excellent before the progressive era

  • I sure like the guitar sound that Peter Banks gave to the first two albums.

  • YES!

  • Hammond and double Rickenbacker attack - that signature snare drum sound - and Jon's vocals... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee-hooooooooo!!!

Still I can't help thinking that Jon's contributions on percussion (and sometimes guitar and keyboard, on other occasions), are a bit "Linda McCartney-ish" if you forgive me the term - musicians will understand immediately...

  • lol

  • It's not the same without the wonderful strings. :-/

  • those guy are legends, dont forget it

  • La mjor para mi de YES

  • great melody!!

  • great vidd!!!

  • Great song!!

  • Bruford Rules

  • yep

  • Now we finally get to hear this great and exciting song WITHOUT the string arrangements on 'Time and a Word'. I love it! Thanks for sharing this little gem.

  • that is why I posted it - this version of the song is indispensable - much better without the string arrangements

  • Agreed

  • Hehe, they play so fast it sounds like hardcore punk.

  • Great Band, great song, thanks for sharing

  • nice one
