  • He doesn't shoot the bird, he shoots the aluminum bridge rail/post the bird is sitting on, and it flies away unharmed.

  • everyone sees this scene as a foreshadow and try to look a meaning for it but they can't see that he's only doing this for sport, he's a psychopath, he doesn't need a reason to do this, and doesn't need to think about it (had he hit the bird)

  • @retroguitarmaster if he was doing it for sport, he wouldn't have missed

  • Chigurh is like a more dark version of the apocalyptic bounty hunter in Raising Arizona

  • ..........same bird that messed up his hair

  • First of all... My husband is using my account to make comments on that which I do not care about. Secondly, he says you're an idiot. He does know his guns.

  • He's one bad motherfu...

  • he missed

  • @Vlaxerman343 He doesnt miss.

  • @UltraEpicLoser Yea the bird fly's away unscathed by a point blank shotgun blast...

He misses, it's for a reason. Cohen bros for you.

  • @biggiedickson it's with the tec 9 not the shotgun.

  • @Spunkie7girl @ point blank it doesn't matter, thanks for nothing.

  • it had symbolism, i think the crow as carnivorous eat any flesh so it could be a symbol of hell or death most likely, it shows anton doesn´t care about hell or is the new ´´death´´. maybe he has something against death like he is not going to die and his life has been pointless.

  • @Cyclops4770 he's actually a psycho who saw an opportunity to just kill another living thing.

  • did he ever used that pistol again?

  • Dirty Harry, Terminator, and Rambo could kick this guys ass....

  • @Theryougo1 And Charlie Sheen could kick ALL of their asses

  • @unrealityproduction

    Charlie Sheen- Winning since 2034.

  • @Theryougo1 The difference being Chigurh is eerie as fuck, like legitimately scary.

  • @ousooners5193 The greatest villain

  • Either I missed the depth, or this scene is hilarious

  • The title should be switched to: Anton shoots AT a bird

  • Chigurh shoots a bird, T'ill When?

  • This scene has greater depths.

  • The scene has great depth.

  • This scene always makes me scratch my head in confusion. Was he bored?

  • It should be called Chigurh does'nt shoot a bird.

  • @mjcrow36 It should be called Chigurh scares a bird

  • even chuck norris cant kill chigurh

  • Chuck Norris will need a tactical nuke to kill Chigur.

  • @JoeyMcjj What about the whole hotel scene? He was obviously trying to shoot the other fella with the money but he didn't exactly hit him too many times :P

  • Chigurgh vs. Chuck Norris...who would win?

  • @Malocosa A matchup of that magnitude would cause a black hole thus destroying the universe, ending in a tie.

  • he saved the chickens he don't like cruelty

  • @JoeyMcjj No, he can't do that...unless he was...CHUCK NORRIS!

  • @mcg413 Chuck Norris never uses guns, unless he's facing Chigurh. Then he uses rocket launchers and Automatics.

  • @WanderxRebirth If by rocket launchers and automatics, you mean roundhouse kicks, the two guns attached next to his chest, and his eyes that automatically look into his soul.

  • @mcg413 Yes he has all that

and he'd STILL run at the sight of Chigurh

  • chigurh is so badass he can scare off death

  • This is a cohen brother motif, it parallels the motorcycle bandit from raising arizona who shoots at a lizard.

  • @Pleppit that was a rabbit, and he threw a grenade at it, but... yeah

  • @Pleppit Thank you film school nerd - how would I appreciate contempary american cinema without you?

  • @TheDragon2k You're so cool, I wish I was like you.

  • This would be a perfect movie if it wasn't for the CG animals.

  • @JoeyMcjj I agree with him just trying to scare it here but Chigurh was in a big gunfight at the hotel with the main dude and he missed 12 times.

  • Thats a tek 9 with a suppressor.

  • Comment removed

  • @browna09 acutally yes it is, check out the seperate magazine and in the following scene you see the gun in its entirety, or you can go to wikepedia which has a list of guns that were used in the movie. Its an Intratec Tec-9, his shotgun is a remington 11-87

  • @blackdahliafox I know, I noticed too... And it's 1980, and that gun didn't came into production until 1985.

  • I took this to be a self-reference to their own work. In Raising Arizona the 'Biker of the Apocalypse' (an incarnation of evil a la Chigurh) shoots at wildlife.. I think it's a rabbit, while driving past it.

  • @TheIllegit

I immediately thought of Raising Arizona too. I think the biker may have shot a lizard but it has been awhile since I've seen that movie.

  • Alright... Chuck Norris or Chigurh? Call it.

  • @DonSkuzaCinema

    The better question would be:

    Terminator or Chigurh?

    Cause they're quite similiar.

  • @DonSkuzaCinema What is the most you have ever loss in a coin toss?

  • @QuantumProphet I couldn't say.

  • this guy has way too much fun scaring the shit out of things.

  • And when i did just call him rational...

  • if he wanted to kill it it would be dead. I love the lighting, the camera move and the music sting at the end. I think the next scene is the only one in the whole movie that has any music. the atmosphere in this movie is part of what makes it so great..

  • interesting scene, death meets death

  • I always interpreted this scene as a foreshadowing of Chigurh's fate, in which he doesn't die after various near-death situations. The fact he's scaring off the crow -- a bird that represents impending doom, mostly death -- kind of foreshadows that death will not be of any circumstance for Anton later on.

  • @MurphGiovanni Brain dead moron.

  • @wynternight777...it was a joke, you pompous piece of shit...believe me, i recognize the underlying symbolism in this movie way more than 90% of the retards who comment on this shit while they are still in junior high school...i'd explain it to you, but i know it would sail over your remedial head...you were destined to work a job involving a hard hat, you utter fuck-up

  • @MurphGiovanni LOL! I'm pompous? I'm surprised you were able to find underlying and symbolism in order to spell them properly. If you're as smart as you like to think you are then why the lowbrow, crude comment? And working a job involving a hard hat? I'm an ER nurse in a world class pediatric hospital. Post again when you finish your after school shift at Mcdonalds.

  • @wynternight777... why the lowbrow, crude comment? that's what the youtube comment section is meant for...most people that comment here are either in junior high or high school and don't know shit about anything

and whenever i write something insightful, most people get confused...so, now, i stick to writing random/inappropriate comments to fit in with the slow-witted masses....thank you for validating yourself to me though with a shout out of your credentials..lol that's cute

  • @MurphGiovanni So you're just one of the sheeple, following tthe rest of the herd, hence the comment? Ok, got it.

As for validiting myself: if I seek validation it certainly won't be from a half-literate moron like you. I was simply putting paid to your hard hat comment.

  • @wynternight777 lol @ YOU calling me "half-literate" when you spelled the word, "the," incorrectly...

and what does "sheeple" mean? is it your own non-witty way of calling me a follower? you said that you work as a nurse...you are not exactly a pioneer of originality...just some idiot that didn't have what it took to become a doctor, so instead became a professional assistant in a bureaucratic field...woman can't handle the big boy jobs anyways...so it all works out...you pawn

  • @MurphGiovanni and what the hell does your little flame wars have to do with this scene?

  • @GodofGunsX it has EVERYTHING to do with the scene...i simply cast my opinion on the symbolism of the movie, and a bunch of half-literate morons who were unable to fathom any abstract thought that opposed their simple views, decided to insult me...so i chose to reply to those assholes...just like i am replying to you, another stupid fuck...get it now, douchebag?

  • @MurphGiovanni for a guy who claims himself to be smart, you sure spit out a lot of curses. You know why ppl curse? Its because they can't think of anything intelligent to say hence throw around curses that in reality degrade them and make others view them as low class scumbags. Personally, i think you got a big ego issue in which you are under the delusion that everyone else besides you is a dumbass. Sorry to disappoint you buddy but you're the frog in the well. Or maybe your on your period....

  • @GodofGunsX how cute, you are trying to take the high ground and invalidate my comment bc i swore...you sound like an elementary school teacher

and look..i was just trying to explain my alleged "flame wars" by pointing out that when someone responds to my original comment, i am naturally going to reply

but you are on the same low intelligence as the other morons who think it's profound to point out that a crow symbolizes death..lol

  • @MurphGiovanni actually in all honestly i dont give a damn about the bird and i dont give a damn about the "high ground" you are talking about. As i recall, my first comment was about your flame wars. A normal person would give an answer without all the swearing and bashing.

"so i chose to reply to those assholes...just like i am replying to you, another stupid fuck...get it now, douchebag?"

You might be an adult i dunno but i do know that your attitude states that you're nothing but a brat.

  • @GodofGunsX everyone cusses sometimes. just pay attention to what they're saying.

  • That's a Ram on the car, not a bird.

  • In case anyone's wondering: the bird represents Moss, and the fact that Chigurh misses the shot is a foreshadowing to how Chigurh will fail in killing Moss.

  • how did you come to that conclusion?

  • The bird happens to be a raven/crow. These birds are scavengers. And they are some of the sharpest birds around too.

Moss was a scavenger (for money)

Moss was also sharp (sharp enough to nearly survive till the end of the movie).

  • I wasn't trying to be an asshole by the way. That was just something I've never heard before.

  • @pizzatay6378797

Not at all man! No problem! :D

  • How could he miss that?

  • He doesn't miss he just shoots to the side to scare it.

  • love that scene. lol...

  • pause it at :13 and its the scariest thing ever

  • when i grow up i want to be a badass villian jus like him

  • i think this scene has several meanings, 1st it shows the ruthlessness of chigurh picking on little things of nature, much like the hunter guy in the coen bros 1st film raising arizona, 2nd it adds mystery to his character like why does he hate birds, 3rd the black bird can be a symbol of death, (take that how u want) 4th anyone notice the bird hood orniment on the car....... nuts

  • lol ur fuckin dumb

  • lol yea that means alot coming from the guy who named himself after an 80s wreslter

  • suck my cock faggot

  • lol yea cos i am sooo stupid u mst be smart

  • lol u think ur impressing anyone talking like that on youtube y dont u talk to me like a normal person

  • sorry im sure everyone who visits this video is looking for somewhat intellegent comments that somehow pertain to the video, + i have a rule against answering retards more than 3 times on youtube so i won't be able to continue to respond to you, but i will wonder why someone who is as stupid as you are chose to watch such a deep thought provoking video o well its been fun talking with u

  • cut it out please its annoying

  • shmea guess u win i dont have a comeback u got the last word i wont try and match wits with u

  • allright thanks for the somewhat intellegent comment u left on my page, and ur explanation was very plausable, i think u were pretty right on, but there is more to it, i didnt mean to say that he hates birds and thats that... there is a mystery there, but you cant tell me that there is no paralel between him and the raising arizona guy blowing up the critter with the grenade.... btw im actually really good with vocab i just dont always excercize it on youtube, ppl tend to not appreciate it,

  • This is the same bird that stole Chigur's chocolate bar in the previous scene. He wanted to punish it for doing so.

  • @33hegemon chocolate bar?

  • Yes. In an earlier scene, Chigur exits the dentists holding a chocolate bar in his right hand. This black bird flies down and snatches the chocolate bar from his hand, and Chigur says, "I'll being you soon, fella." Don't you remember?

  • @33hegemon the dentists office??? is that a deleted scene or are you screwing with me?

  • LOL, somehow I missed that scene!

  • @33hegemon- LMFAOx3!!!! Chocolate bar!!! X'D

  • what kind of weapon was that?

  • Silenced handgun, it looked like

  • This scene stands for when he comes close to killing Lylewwn (however you spell it), but doesn't.

  • He shows more "mercy" by just scaring the animal. He would not show that kind of mercy towards a human ...me thinks.

  • Interesting view. Reading the book and seeing the movie, I get the impression that the bird is too "calm" for him. It's a quiet night, and the bird is very peaceful: and he cannot stand that.

  • @socalcraigster He does show that kind of mercy to people, through the coin toss game.

  • @miklitov23 that's not really mercy, that's just letting your choice as to whether or not to shoot someone depend on sheer luck.

  • @shittyfagg Well it's a chance nonetheless and giving a chance is a show of mercy.

  • Right. He misses on purpose, but he misses.

  • drive by fowling

  • Birdy NOOOO!

  • This Scene actually has music in it

  • I've often wondered what this scene means in the context of the film.

  • it means that he will die ultimately at the figurative hands of a bird

  • Doesn't shoot it. He misses.

  • Yeah, the bird lives somehow, even though it looked like he definitely didn't miss.

  • For some reason the title made me lol.

  • he didnt have a radio on the car...

  • this meant that chirguh would not kill moss. it was not in his fate to kill him. the bird represented moss.

  • doesn't a crow represent death? and doesn't Anton also represent death or something? so maybe the reason he didn't kill the bird was because they are somehow one in the same.

  • never thought of that one. when i first saw this scene i thought it was just to show how sadistic he was and just being goofy lol.

    good observation

  • @Jerry033 Or maybe it was exactly what Jerry said. You are thinking too much into it.

  • you may be right, but what i got out of this is that he just loves to kill...or he's just practicing his aim for the next victim.

  • @kayoticFear

This was a foreshadowing of Moss' death somewhat. Chigurh was very close to killing the bird but ultimately he didn't -- Just like with Moss who Chigurh came very close to killing, but Moss ultimately met his demise somewhere else.

  • Chigurh shoots a bird!

  • I loved this scene!

    thank you for posting it.
