A tip about Dark Souls: Anything with a tail: try cutting it off. This usually yields a unique weapon or two. Also, being human makes item drop rate more frequent. Have fun.

I've been playing the JP copy of Dark Souls ever since it launched in Japan. I'm not sure if it's more difficult than Demon's Souls so far, but it definitely has me stumped at the moment. Sen's Fortress is crazy difficult in comparison to all the other areas so far. :(

im guessing you both already know this but sayin it anyway, the reason you get points is that you level up trough accumulating enough points and when you level up you get for example more slowmo time, health, ammo and grenade capacity and such
