well unlike most of you i have actually driven both, the dodge was nice but had no onboard system to compensate for torque steer whereas the hhr had a launch control system, and the hhr definately did handle better, alot better, i would consider it close to a lowered gti where the caliber handled like an overpowered turd
@bradz123456 Haha, smart guy hu? Butt ugly? Lol Just looking at an HHR and Caliber SRT-4 you can tell wants built for racing and the other is a wanna be. No joke I saw a 70 year old woman driving a HHR SS. They are just like the Crapalier a wanna be. The 25k Cobalt SS is something but for its money can be out run.
dodge the best chevrolet is a garbage car in a 2 or 3 years the future of chevrolet is the same that pontiac-vauxhal-opel-saab etc chevrolet or gm ar GARBAGE-GARBAGE-GARBAGE-GARBAGE FOREVER
I've had problems with rotors on the hhr aswell. Took it back to the dealership and the reason they gave me was they had too much rust. I guess there is some crazy acid rain where I live cause I work seven days a week and the car is a daily driver. I've had three dif volkswagon cars that all had over 50.000km on the brakes, why would these gm brakes be done after 10,000km? poor quality!
and the warped rotors is very common on the chevys.... I've had a cobalt and an uplander... the brakes lasted like 40k miles, but were warped after 5k... the rotors are made outta garbage... and i am a good driver
The CSRT4 does not have physical LSD (Neon had a Quaife LSD), instead it uses the ESP/TC/ABS system to slow down a spinning tire. The net effect is like an LSD, both front tires spin equally.
@Moparman58 Other than the SRT having more HP, the HHR SS has way better quality especially the suspension compared to the caliber SRT just read the reviews. caliber SRT is good if your driving in a straight line, not that you could keep the SRT in a straight line with all that torque steer.
As much as I'm glad Chevy put a turbo in their 4 bangers, Caliber is way out of their league...
Stock turbo caliber is capable of a mid-low 12sec pass on stock turbo... There is a lot of things holding the car back electronically. There are few in 11s with better turbo's and power numbers are there for 10sec pass already!
Cobalt SS/TC is more of caliber competitor, HHR is not even close..
Considering the power plant under the hood and its ability to fit rims & tires from cars like the GT500 I'm sure this car will break into the 10's easy.
Interesting video. But there is way too little information other than less than ideal track conditions and less than desirable drivers. Where is the info on engine and trany in the vehicles. Also of interest to owners or prospective owners is what the MPG of each vehicle is according to the EPA. All we can tell about the 2 cars is that amateur drivers on a lousy track one beat the other. We have no idea of whether they are stock or one tricked out or how they mechanically compare.
ok first off why are you even comparing the new turbo cobalt vs the caliber it would get crushed the cobalt has 275 bhp and its suppose to run low 13s to mid 13s so dont even compare them.
the new cobalt ss was only 1 sec slower on the road track lap times next to the new camaro, either the new camaro ss is slow or the new cobalt is fast as hell
Problem is the new Camaro is still following American muscle car design - heavy, fast in a straight line, slow through the corners. The Cobalt SS is fast as hell in the corners, reasonably fast in a straight line. GM's stage kit should be out soon for it - then we will see some really fast Cobalt SS's.
At the end of the day -- its still a Cobalt (not a good thing).
My '06 Cobalt LS Coupe fell apart in only 3 years. Horrible build quality. Dashboard rattles, electrical gremlins, cheesy plastics, broken trim pieces, flimsy seats, brake rotors that warp every 4,000 miles.... At least, I didn't pay 20k (Cobalt SS) for my piece of crap. GM engineered the Cobalt on the cheap -- and it shows.
hmmm you bout a base model and it fell apart what a suprise dumbass.... btw the reasons your rotors warped is because you have no fucking clue how to drive
My best friend's 05 Pontiac GTO had to correct warped rotors on 3 occassions.... An ex-girlfriend's Chevy HHR struggled with warped rotors, too.
GM just sucks -- they cut corners (cost-cutting) on their brake system, using shoddy parts. I've owned about a dozen cars since I started driving (both daily drivers and classics) -- my previous Chevy is only one with chronic warped rotors.
Except that the Cobalt SS is nothing more than just a Colbalt with a bigger motor in it. It looks exactly the same as the regular Colbalt, as a fugly looking wal-mart wing on it. Yes, it probably is faster and handles better. Put the 2 head to head for a long race. See who comes out better in the end. My money is on the Caliber because SRT vehicles are made to race out of the box. They aren't necessarily designed for straight line performance.
the Cobalt SS will win. hit's 0-60 quicker, does the 1/4 faster, and is faster on lap time. and wal-mart spoiler? i'm guessing you are calling the previous sti and evo spoiler "ricer", and the cobalts isn't even that big. and you do have the option of having the bigger spoiler, or not having it. i'd rather have a coupe than a 4 door cross over suv.
yea the wing does look like shit actually, but i guess u need SOMETHING to tell the difference between an economy car and a slightly higher performance vehicle, id rather have a car that looks like its got some balls, stock, rather than having to do shit to it, like put a butt ass ugly wing on it, but, i do like the evo and sti wings, cuz they are the right cars for it, a cobalt, not so much, they are too hight in the rear end for any kind of bolt on bullshit
im glad that the HHR SS isn't the CSRT4's competitor, which the 08 cobalt ss is :). 08 Cobalt is better in every aspect than the CSRT4. lap time, handling, acceleration, braking, 1/4 time, gas efficiency, doesn't look like a soccer mom vehicle. the CSRT4 doesn't look all that bad though. I'd still prefer the looks of the HHR SS over the CSRT4, just because i'm a fan of retro vehicles.
lol better in every aspect you say? people who say the srt4 caliber looks like a soccer mom van is silly. the 08 cobalt is the same as the years past but this time with a turbo(bout 50hp more?) instead of a supercharger. the over all times between the Csrt4 and the cobalt is not that much different. but now lets talk about comfort & convenience! I have a wife & 2 small boys and the size of the csrt4 comes in handy. i love the cobalt too so this is not a bashing,i have a 05 stage2+ saturn redline
