  • sport to kicking... ohh eaaaa

  • I have Kims book 'Ultimate Flexibility' and can say that if you're an aspiring martial artist that needs to improve your kicks then get the book. I'm no salesman, just an admirer. Osu!

  • If i do that everyday , how much centimeters i can gain in one week ? in praticing TKD , and flexibility helps a lot , pls answer , will help , thanks for the video .

  • oviasly the man is not good at talking like kicking

  • 1:17 heel in groin, heel in groin, heel in groin!

  • you know whaT ! im doing the 1,2,3 go here .! lOl

  • thanks God, I can do all that ! ^_^

  • How long can be flexible on this video

    please fast reponse

  • slow down man

  • Holy crap I did one set of these stretches and I'm already kicking 5 inches higher. Thanks bro!

  • @GoldenHaseo That's ridiculous. First training session for training? Or have you been flexible long before this stretch?

  • @MrStephenFrohnhofer lol I've been flexible for a long time, but recently I've been losing it. I did these stretches for about 25+ minutes and it improved me greatly. Love this :D

  • Whoa! This guy has some nice legs. ;)

  • I wanna be just like JACKIE CHAN!

  • nice...but stretching takes many time to be achieve

  • ummmm, he is strengthening the calf, he isnt totally getting the hamstring and u cant get totally get the groin stretch with that.

  • Im new to flexibility type training, do people recommend earlier stages of these stretches for beginners? Like not going as ffar down as him, but sitll doing the same exccersises?

  • @maadd100 Yes, start with the exercises you can do and stretch as far as you comfortably can to begin with.

  • @maadd100

Concentrate on the adductors. The muscle group that joins the leg to the hip. This is the 'core' that facilitates high kicks. Many others are for the straight leg. Start by standing and relaxed, dropping your top half, as if you were sitting in the seat of your hips. Relax as you do this, pelvis should be 'jutting' forward, you should feel the muscles on the inner of your hip, groin area, pull. Then you can go on to other adductor stretches, work towards chinese splits.

  • @maadd100 do this exercises and you will se the resultes. try to train your flexibility with exercises like that all day you can for 30-45min

  • Good gawd, I somehow can not do the groan stretch. let me keep praticing, I believe this is what is holding me back on kickingi the way I want to.

  • uhhhhhmm..ok boring!!!!!!!

  • can u go to my house to train me :D $5 bang

  • also how long should i for each time i do it?

  • @snowdude1080 Spend at least 10-15 minutes stretching after each workout

  • @turtlepress do extreme spits (side and front) all the way down

  • @turtlepress arent you supposed to stretch before too?

  • @HSSS8949 you should warm-up before a workout and do stretching for flexibility afterwards.

  • @turtlepress thank you for clarifying :)

  • @snowdude1080 for every 5 min you do 1 min.

  • Thank you so much fore the advice for the strencthing, i am in tkd the only thing i lack is flexibility i am 6 feet tall but i cant accuratly kick people in the head so i learned to be a great back kicker instead of hook kicks, i hope i can get results asap before my next tourny

  • When you are doing it looks so easy!!:)

I'm doing similar stretching exercises in my dojo but I can't see any progress

I'm stretching 3 times a week before training and sometimes weekends by myself for 1 year now with some breaks about 1-2 weeks every 3 months because of my job,and I believe that this is the main reason I can't see results. Is there something I can do that will give me an extra help?

    Thanks for the video!!

  • I do not participate in martial arts, but I play kicker and punter in football, and these are great exercises to improve at kicking! Thank you so much!

  • Sang H Kim's instructional videos remain unsurpassed in my opinion as they have been all these years

  • hi thank you for posting i shotokan karate and my kicks ars slowly getting higher and kata is improving as well , one thing though how oftern should i do this type of stretching, at the mo i stretch 3 to 4 times a week plus stretching at training.

  • @rdp2491 Sounds like you are stretching often enough 3-4 times a week is excellent

  • @turtlepress Hi, how long should u hold a stretch i try to hold for 30 seconds but it kinda hurts idk if im doing it right

  • @LexyAAA If stretching hurts, you're probably stretching too far. Try to back off a little and hold for 15-30 seconds. It should be a little uncomfortable but not painful because if it's painful, you won't be able to relax which is really important in stretching.

  • @LexyAAA Sang H. Kim has made a video reply to your question at /watch?v=XHoSqbuddik

  • thanks nice stretches ^_^ shouldnt bounce though

  • ninjas :)

  • that guy is freaky flexible :o

  • For my next Kickboxing grade I need to be able to roundhouse kick to the head at close range. My flexibility has never been that good. What muscles do I need to focus on to do this kick.?

  • @gardeningnm Nobody is too old to improve flexibility I have been studying martial arts for 23 years.

I am 42 years of age from the age of 36 I began to study yoga this has really helped me with my flexibilty and inner core strengh and to this day things are still improving. I really think that martial arts and yoga really work well together. Really for me if you want to improve things you have to be patient and also put the time in.

  • @gardeningnm Sang H. Kim has posted a video reply to your question.

  • This sh*t is hard. I can't do anything right :D

  • Nice one,Subscribed.

  • i'm 56 can i still be able todo the split's

  • honestly, i became a taekwondo player when i was 15 and it takes 2 whole years before i learn how to split and when i stop training my body became very stiff, it is as if i was never a taekwondo player.. i'm so depressed, now i will have to start all over again

  • dis works

  • nice vid helpful, thank you sir

  • Will these also help with a tight lower back? I am ok when it comes to leg flexability but I dont have great flexability in my lower back area.

  • @kustomhead maybe but you'd be better off doing the core stretches in the video at /watch?v=ttq-aidowRU

  • I heard things like "Stretching decreases the pain on your back" and "Stretching daily gives you a higher chance on growing naturally". are these all true? cuz if they are, stretching is exactly what i need to to.

  • I've always heard its bad to bounce when you stretch. Is this wrong?

  • @DagItsIsaiah Quite a few people have asked this question so Sang H. Kim has posted a video response.

  • @DagItsIsaiah Yes... you have a greater risk of injuring yourself... To summon it up short :)

  • @Isra3l92 lol just sayin...im a little stiff

  • this is why i cant do the splits.....im not on a dock by the ocean...

  • The genetics story could be true but training hard overcome all that genetics stuff.

My family and I, we do not have much flexibility for nature... We have to work hard to get it. 2 years ago I was like 5 palms from the groin to the ground, now I almost achieved the frontsplits. And my kicks are better since I train hard with dynamic and balistic stretching.

  • You have to let the muscle get their rest to recover!!

  • im not racist but his accent is prolly the funniest thing ive ever heard haha

  • @loxspliff1

You need to get out more.

  • Will yoga provide flexibility for kicking techniques?

  • @KentuckyRebels Yep, pretty much any motion that lengthens a muscle will improve its flexibility. Some more than others, of course.

  • 3 people cant bend enough to do these stretches

  • sounds like schwarznegger

  • did jackie chan have a kid!?!?

  • @thxnola umm, yes he has two kids kid boy&girl long time ago, no he did not personally give birth to them.

  • I keep losing balance how doI fix this.

  • wtf straddle stretch

  • Oh this video was perfect! This is what I'm looking to do exactly!

  • All i can say is OWW

  • sang h kim you have sexy legs!

  • i have those shoes!! so comfortable

flexabilty and upper body strength is the only thing i can say are my weak points =/

  • I wish he would add which kicks these different stretches would benefit.

  • @Minatour94 all these stretches affect all kicks, only in different height and intension. If you stretch your hamstring, it will benefit front kicks, sidekicks and roundhouse kicks. If you stretch the groin area, it benefits the height of your sidekicks and roundhouses. And most importantly, the lower back muscles, they must be flexible in order to perform any high kick succesfully and without much chance for injuries. Hope it helps ye :)

  • I do this daily when i go Gym i really i see progress !

  • i stopped training a few years ago,and now i need to do some of these things every day,but only these won't improve ur flexibility and speed fast enough

  • when I streched I just counted the seconds , like hold the stretch for 30 seconds, it worked, but with the inhaling and exhaling relaxes the muscles more, yesterday I could do the exercise like in the video at 2.11 , but still splits are hard for me still can't get too the floor I'm stretching 3 weeks dailey

  • i want to learn kickboxing, but my leg flexibility sucks, is this gonna improve my flexibility? sorry for my bad english

  • if you kick faster with more tork you can drive your kick alot more higher. but it minimize your dmg if your knee are chambered

  • yes. and your english was good....better than many people who use english all the time.

  • of course! these excersises are perfect for improving leg flexibility, so follow them well and stretch almost every day if possible. and it's great that u want to get urself started in a fine discipline like kickboxing. Best of Luck, and hav fun!

  • Stretch as far as you can for 30 seconds and then feel and reckognize the resistence your body naturaly puts there so you dont snap! Relax into the stretch exhaling or whatever suits (maybe your smoking, not advised) then you Will be able to go a little futher hold for 30 seconds. One minute, one stretch, how many stretchy bits do ya got? Could take youuu... 87minutes 112minutes if you smoke. lol..

  • can someoan reply me back how long i should strech for a day and what streching moves to do also, my streching sucks and i wanna be able to kick better :P

    im new to streching

  • you should give yourself 20 seconds on each strech then counter with leaning all the way back to the grond with one leg at a time so that ur back doesnt suffer any pain. and goodluck with ur streching!

  • to have the maximum effect you should wait 2 hours after the training before streching to improve your flexibility. and you should do streches at least for 30 min.

  • Have a look at Elastic Steel. You can find them on you tube and their techniques work well and they give very advise etc. Hope this helps.

  • it might help, but your still not technically supposed to bounce.. it ruins the point of the stretch (says doctors).

  • calf raises don't improve flexibility just strength..bodybuilders and atheletes do calf raises all the time except with weights on their shoulders

  • true but you do need to strengthen the lower leg and ankle in proportion to the rest of the leg, as you increase the elasticity in the muscle and thus increase flexibility the ankle and calf become the week point of the body's system. it also promotes balance and reduces the chance of cramping out after spending all day on your toes kicking a bag, or partner.

  • it stretches your anckle and strengthens your calfs at the same time

  • just a tip, you're not suppose to bounce in your stretches.

  • it helps, trust me!

  • u r using tkd shoes =3

  • tkd shoes are awesome lol

  • Great job 5*****

  • Good advice.

  • yeah uhh... ive always been told to never bounce, and hold a stretch for at least 10 seconds or more.. right?

  • You've been told correctly, never bounce when stretching.

  • @alcoholman01 This is true. In my own personal experience, ballistic stretching has not gained me any increase in flexibility, Infact, it usually serves to do the opposite by activating the stretch relex. Now if one's flexibility is advanced enough, then ballistic stretching is probably not so rough on muscle tissue, but it could still cause microscopic tears in other connective tissues around the joints over time. The Best bet is to gauge ones own limits through safest means first.

  • don't bounce when you stretch. It can actually worsen your flexibility.

  • Right.

  • That last one is ridiculous! Kinda flexibility you'll blatantly only gain by training since childhood

  • Thats not true, i'm 23 and i gained a lot of flexibility, is more easier to train when you're a child but when you grow up is harder but not imposible

  • Right.

  • @AressiYashiroB Agreed it takes a lot of discipline to truly gain full range in kicks through flexibility. I stretch all the time but i know i could do better so i keep on stretching.

  • @AressiYashiroB

    VERY TRUE!

  • @AressiYashiroB im 35 after warming i can do split in 100 degree im training since on week evry day but no resluts ..do u thing i cant improve more ? i think 3 time in week is enough than evry day traing wichich is painful.

  • @soslabass If you want to gain flexibility you must train 5 days a week and 2 days for rest, and if you want to maintain your flexibility you can train 1-3 day a week, try a method called elastic steel, is really effective

  • @soslabass that's great to hear that your making progress

um.. yea, training everyday isn't really a good idea, especially if your feeling pain

i would say 3-5 times is good, and make sure you eat lotsa protein

um.. but in terms of flexibility, i would recommend just stretching before all training, and it doesn't have to be splits, simple stuff work too! keep streching, and in months, u'll be really good at being flexible!! Hope that helps.. good luck!

  • @AressiYashiroB ..Stretch has a lot to do with genetic code and psychosomatic reasons.I have seen a lot of kids that have very poor flexibility and adults who started TKD in their 30s that have great or super flexibility.Free your mind and your body will follow...

  • @AressiYashiroB True, i have 27 and left practicing tkd since i had 8, now i'm returning to practice and 2 yr ago i wasn't able to kick at the stomach without feel a hard stretch in my legs, now i can roundhouse kick to the face. Everything lays in the daily and correct training. :)

  • wtf? childhood? stretch daily for six months and you'll see miracles

  • Good advice, anyone can gain flexibility at any age with daily stretching.

  • @blestcurst stretch when the body is warm?

  • @ blestcurst

I'VE BEEN STRETCHING EVERY MORNING AND I DONT SEE ANY MIRACLES

I CANT EVEN STAY STRETCH PERMINATLY EVEN THO I DO STRETCH EVER DAY

  • @ICET100

do yoga it helps, it gives insight of your own body and they tell you the do's and don'ts...key part of stretching don't hold breath..exhale when stretch inhale when coming out in stretch...breath is everything!

hope this helps you out..and yeah, don't force it..you'll just get stiffer faster instead of getting flexible

  • @ICET100

Maybe talk to your doctor, it could be your diet, or you might not be warming up enough/in the right way.
