And you only really need 3 inches to start dreads but they would be really short.. and if you backcomb it will take a long ass time to do 14 inches.. :) ~JRB~

I've backcombed them a number of times now and they've gotten better but do you have any tips to help the process? Also I've washed my hair daily since but only shampood once every four days. Is that too much? After the fact I'm finding I shouldn't have washed much at all. Help?
I got a good one for you.... If your dread locks get to long for you liking. Like say.... You're dreads are about 3 inches past your shoulder, and you want to trim off an inch or two. Would it hurt the dreads to cut the inch or two off to make them a bit shorter?

I did this for someone with your length. It took about 8 hours. His length is about half yours. I am licensed and have a shop. I charged $375. They pretty much came apart and he came back in 5 weeks. I am charging him $180 the second time.(discounted) Its alot of work. .......... What would you charge for what I did? I live in Cali. For some reason I think I should be charging a whole lot more but what do you think. Am I charging too much or not enough?
@braider1100 i was in jamaica when i had mine done and took them out within a month because i wasnt told how to properly maintain them they spent 3 hours on my hair and i paid almost 400 with waxz and shampoo to take home.. i went to a shop when i got home n they said they would have charged close to 600 ... but if there falling out i wouldnt be charging anything for the second time around personally if i owened a business i would want a good word spread

elkano... is it possible to trim your dreads. Like if your dreads are very long. and you want them a little smaller, can you just chop it. or will that ruin it?
I asked this same question to the loctitian that did my dreads, and she said NOT to trim by yourself. The knots at the ends a big part in what keeps your dreads together, and if you do want them trimmed, get it done by someone who specializes, or is at least experienced, with dreadlocks so yours don't unravel.

so I am thinkin doing my own dreads.. just a few queries.. how long to they take to mature..? because i've seen some new ones that look rather bad - spike up, show your scalp etc.. or is there a method to prevent this? also my hair is on the thin side of medium thickness, curly and when straight, is waist length.. how long do you think my dreads would turn out using your method and if they were a mixture of your thickness and possibly some a bit thicker would i have many?
i did. but youtube gave me a whole bunch of copyright warnings cause i had music in my videos. so had to delete them im afraid. it sucks cause i dont even have the files anymore, so theyre gone. i plan to make a lot of vids soon though...with no copyright infringement :D
actually, if you go to someplace, like hair care place or something like that.. well, they'll tell you to WASH your hair. and plus, if you hair's too thin or too straight they might tell you not to blow dry it and put it on a braid type of thing so your hair gets wavy and as much voluptuous as possible !
eeekk i'm getting mine on June 8th. So does your dreads interfere with work and what not, because i'm 18 and i'm terrified i won't be able to find work after i get them. :(
you can do it yourself it will just take a long time :P i'm shore you have a couple of friends to help you out and you can just show then how to do it. thats what i did.
really not too sure on that one. i would say they would because there is more hair in the thicker dreads to knot up. the skinnier ones have less hair and so wouldnt knot up i as fast i dont think.
well hair tends to grow at different speeds for everyone i think. people have said hair grows faster with dreads as there is more weight 'pulling' on the hair, but i really don know if thats how it works or if its just nonsense.
I have dreads and i got mine done with backcombing and then the guy used a crochethook to kinda pull all the loose hair inside the dread and knotted it really tight. He had his done the same way and his looks awesome.
PS. if you get some flat dreads from sleeping on them etc. will they round out as they grow?
i couldnt say for all types of dreads/hair etc but mine seem to change shape all the time. like some will get flat after a while them seem to round out. some will get loops that disapear soon after. its weird, kind of like shape-shifter dreads haha. but yeah the ones at the back of your head always seem to be a little flatter than others. they do change over time and if its really bugging you, you can tease them into a rounder shape.
i try to wash them once a week. sometimes its a few months before i wash them. gross i know haha. but it all depends when you have time. cause they take quitea while to dry and then fix up a little after washing, its like a day project haha. but yeah you can wash them as often or not as you like as long as you dry them properly after. people get weird about not washing hair for over a month, but ive never had complaints from anyone about them smelling or anything.
aight , so just make shure they are dry when u finish. btw ther isnt enything rong with not washing your hair for that long ......maby if u didnt wash for like 5 years or something it may be a little rank looking . but enyway thanks for your time
loops never bothered me LOL :) Those are very good dreads...impressed. Mine dont go as good as that as my hair is finer...I'll try better with them this time...and no wax...yak and I've made my own spray instead of buying expensive sh*t ;)
you dont NEED wax, and in the long run lots of wax actually makes ur dreads pretty dirty. but if u wanna use a little like just to hold the roots together in the BEGINNING, just not very much. I dont have dreads, this is just my opinion

and the whole 'people with dreads cant shower' thing isnt true right? i mean i know products like dreadhead HQ is FOR showering, but i think i should clean the tention...

I do wash my dreads, but if I need to shower without getting my hair wet I use.....

so I am thinkin doing my own dreads.. just a few queries.. how long to they take to mature..? because i've seen some new ones that look rather bad - spike up, show your scalp etc.. or is there a method to prevent this? also my hair is on the thin side of medium thickness, curly and when straight, is waist length.. how long do you think my dreads would turn out using your method and if they were a mixture of your thickness and possibly some a bit thicker would i have many?

I got another question... I heared that lemon juice and sea water is very good to tighten your dreads.. did you use things like that?

i did. but youtube gave me a whole bunch of copyright warnings cause i had music in my videos. so had to delete them im afraid. it sucks cause i dont even have the files anymore, so theyre gone. i plan to make a lot of vids soon though...with no copyright infringement :D

actually, if you go to someplace, like hair care place or something like that.. well, they'll tell you to WASH your hair. and plus, if you hair's too thin or too straight they might tell you not to blow dry it and put it on a braid type of thing so your hair gets wavy and as much voluptuous as possible !

you can do it yourself it will just take a long time :P i'm shore you have a couple of friends to help you out and you can just show then how to do it. thats what i did.

really not too sure on that one. i would say they would because there is more hair in the thicker dreads to knot up. the skinnier ones have less hair and so wouldnt knot up i as fast i dont think.

well hair tends to grow at different speeds for everyone i think. people have said hair grows faster with dreads as there is more weight 'pulling' on the hair, but i really don know if thats how it works or if its just nonsense.

I have dreads and i got mine done with backcombing and then the guy used a crochethook to kinda pull all the loose hair inside the dread and knotted it really tight. He had his done the same way and his looks awesome.
PS. if you get some flat dreads from sleeping on them etc. will they round out as they grow?

i couldnt say for all types of dreads/hair etc but mine seem to change shape all the time. like some will get flat after a while them seem to round out. some will get loops that disapear soon after. its weird, kind of like shape-shifter dreads haha. but yeah the ones at the back of your head always seem to be a little flatter than others. they do change over time and if its really bugging you, you can tease them into a rounder shape.

cheers, no worries.
i try to wash them once a week. sometimes its a few months before i wash them. gross i know haha. but it all depends when you have time. cause they take quitea while to dry and then fix up a little after washing, its like a day project haha. but yeah you can wash them as often or not as you like as long as you dry them properly after. people get weird about not washing hair for over a month, but ive never had complaints from anyone about them smelling or anything.

aight , so just make shure they are dry when u finish. btw ther isnt enything rong with not washing your hair for that long ......maby if u didnt wash for like 5 years or something it may be a little rank looking . but enyway thanks for your time

loops never bothered me LOL :) Those are very good dreads...impressed. Mine dont go as good as that as my hair is finer...I'll try better with them this time...and no wax...yak and I've made my own spray instead of buying expensive sh*t ;)

you dont NEED wax, and in the long run lots of wax actually makes ur dreads pretty dirty. but if u wanna use a little like just to hold the roots together in the BEGINNING, just not very much. I dont have dreads, this is just my opinion

exactly the opposite, becuase the hair grows sideways almost and it makes em gro about a 3rd shorter (if that makes sense)
