OVERPOPULATION is the primary problem that faces us. Fix that, and the other issues will fall into place. If you are going to control anything, control the reproduction of the irresponsible social parasites. Yes, those who do not contribute to society should NOT reproduce. I suggest offering $5000 to anyone who will allow themselves to be sterilized. Now there is a good use of the stimulus.
I think this video really ignores the freedom and responsibility that the consumer has. The consumer doesn't HAVE to buy planned obsolescent goods, or buy nasty chemicals. But they do, because they don't care. Sure, the market being an oligarchy contributes - but this isn't a fundamental flaw of capitalism, only of us being ruled by elite. But plenty of capitalistically run ventures work just fine.
@spots2012 Of course you have to buy plan obsolescent goods. If an auto maker built a car that lasted for 50 years with no needed repairs, that business couldn't make it or employ people after a certain point, because of the need for cyclical consumption. Early Man, on the other hand, would build things to last (bows, slicing tools, etc.) because he was using it and not trying to sell it for money. The money system makes people do things that go against common sense.
I mean - no body is forcing you at gunpoint to buy a planned obsolescent good.
But yes - if all our production didn't involve planned obsolence - then sure - less work would need to be done - and we'd perhaps all just work 10 hr weeks, or youd have less people in manufacturing industries, and mroe peole in creative industries like making movies.
The first humans didn't invent fire and arrowheads for profit. They did it to feed themselves. And they hoarded the information on how to make it, and stabbed people who tried to copy them. We have only recently come *out* of a violent tribal society... wielding powerful tools unsuited to our violent evolution and disposition. The zeitgeist movement specifically (deliberately) fails to acknowledge that what needs fixing is not our environment, it is our genetics.

Congratulations technocrats, you're the new Marxists. When you start killing each other because your comrades fail to accept your politics, I'll be laughing on the sidelines, wondering why you never learn from history.
This is what I've been thinking about for a while now. Glad to see that others are discovering the perils of profit and effectively convening it to others. As I tell others, the first humans didn't invent fire and arrowheads for profit. They did it for the collective benefit of their society. Somewhere along the line, we bought into the money theory.
@spots2012 Using goods and services is the basis of any economy. That's a far cry of selling things for money for a profit. You need to follow the video and pay attention.

@thoughtsurfer1 I would suggest that they invented it for their own comfort and consumption, ie profit.
