i'm not sure about the point of george bush even being mentioned. the republican lost a good portion of its base from george bush's reign, so obviously he is not a standard that would satisfy informed voters. this comparison of obama vs substandard george bush is just completely meaningless, most of the individuals who didn't believe obama would turn out this sub-par are beginning to reconsider already, some still play partisan argument by mentioning GWB, amazing and hilarious.
Let's see now: no public option, no real health care reform, big bailout for Wall Street, siding with big pharma, advocating "clean coal", escalating the war in Afghanistan, all while telling progressives to STFU ........ how the hell did Bush get back in the White House?
If most people place fascist corporatism to the right side of the political spectrum they have to be idiots, so just speak for yourself. The problem is that schools do not teach very much about what the essence of Fascism was. I believe it is probably because most text books in school are written by leftist historians who do not wish to shed too much light onto the fact that the so called "right wing extremist" ideologies are in fact left wing ideologies.
It's left-wing because the **authoritarian** state has firm control over the economy?
The defining aspect of leftism is a belief in equality. Fascism is strongly opposed to equality ("the majority is not capable of governing itself" and whatnot), that is why people place them on the far right.
You have absolutely no clue about the political spectrum. Equality? Right wing liberalism offers equality insofar as you can do whatever you please within a liberal law and within the limitations of your abilities no matter who you are.
The spectrum is decided by governmental intervention into economy social life. The fascists and nazis grew out of the working class. In fact the systems brought a lot of positive changes to the working class. Fascism is socialism merged with nationalism.
It's split up by communitarianism vs. individualism, otherwise anarcho-communism would be right next to anarcho-capitalism on the scale, and they would be very different things in practice.
P.S. I'm realizing that having only one axis on a political spectrum is a fucking shit-storm. I'm going to start thinking of systems using this:
Even by communitarianism (as you call it) vs individualism to the right, Fascism would be a left wing ideology. So if that's what you think why are you arguing with me?
And of course the political spectrum is not ideal(nor is the political compass), however my point is just that socialism and fascism are related political ideologies.
Economic and political liberalism is failing (or being corroded) in the US much as it happened in the post-Risorgimento era in Italy.
Right-wing populism is on the rise, fed by those economic interests that fear a progressive movement leading to a revolution - just like it happened in Italy, though the Communist factor is absent.
Fascism is the compromise between the failure of economic liberalism and the need to maintain the status quo. All is in place.
It is also important to note that though the NAZI's copied many of the externals of Mussolini's Fascism, they were not Fascist in the Italian sense at all.
Young mopsius, I'm flattered by your continued attention to my comments.
Unfortunately you start your polite rebuttal of my argument with a statement tha betrays your ignorance of the subject at hand, namely the economic backwardness of the Mezzogiorno, which prevents us from speaking of a 'technically and technologically advanced' Italy, before or after Mussolini.
The ramblings that follow don't offer much of an argument, or a counter-argument for that matter.
No, MarquisBarabbas, you are the immature one--I said nothing about the Mezzogiorno, a part--I mentioned Italia as a whole, which was not yet as industrialized as Britain or Germany. Nor did I use the term "economic backwardness". I was very specific in what I said--more specific than you apparently are able to appreciate, mon enfant (however old you are in years).
You are not stupid, certainly, but your arrogance is stultifying, mainly to yourself.
laws cannot stop HP from outsourcing their customer service...but laws can stop drug companies from outsourcing their manufacturing....keep the jobs in america, tie them down with laws, we need those jobs here.
Obama may be left of the Republicans, but extreme left is making the banks and corporations wholly owned by the government, not the other way around. Obama, like the Republicans and most Democrats, is actually RIGHT WING.
History lesson. Fascism is a left wing ideology. I know a lot of you idiots have a hard time grasping this. You often point towards Hitler being funded by some industrialist leaders. However, the industrialists funded Hitler out of fear that communists would take over the nation and their property. Under Hitler they at least got to keep their property, but it was still a socialistic regime (National SOCIALISTIC German Worker's Party). Mussolini was a socialist even before he started Fascism.
History lesson. Jonah Goldberg is a partisan hack. The name "socialist" is just a label. Paternalism, in the name of security, is as right-wing as they come. I know, I know, it feels good to smear the opposition, but it doesn't make you correct.
Believe what you want about this Jonah Goldberg. I don't have any opinions on the man, and I wonder why you are telling me about your personal feelings about the man.
Paternalism in the name of security is as right wing as they come? Are you drunk? Isn't the nanny state the great goal of the left wing? From cradle to grave? Not saying that it's an ugly idea to care of your own citizens, but it is hardly a right wing idea to bloat the public sector and give all power to the government.
Duurrrrrr... isnunt nany stayt da grate gol of left wing? Sure, yeah, and all left-wingers want the terrorists to win. If you can't even take the time to understand what I believe, then I guess I can't have an adult conversation with you.
LOL you seem very mature yourself. "Duurrrrr and some bad spelling I did not even write". Well, isn't the nanny state the great goal of the left? That is basically the effect of the politics the socialists wish to enforce?
Now onto "take the time to understand what I believe..." Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you the person who came blazing in and started slamming some political columnist I do not even read, assuming I would care? Without taking the time to understand what I believe?
Imagine I'm saying this in a mocking voice, waving my hands around: Well, isn't ethnic cleansing the goal of the right wing? Isn't the return of slavery the goal of the right wing? Isn't a Christian theocracy the goal of the right wing?
Cenk is like everyone should be, for the president if the president is working for the people. First with the banks and now with the insurance firms and big pharma, Obama is looking more and more like a typical republican and it's sad to see it happen.
I'm black and i'm begging to to think that Alex Jones' "Obama Deception" (which you can see on youtube) is too right about Obama and the world for that matter. Its like we live in one big movie set to divo mode.
cenk has always been an independent thinker. Unlike most Americans who move brainlessley with the herd. Cenk attacks the problems where he seems em, regardless of who is in charge!
You have no idea how disappointed people in other countries are about Obama. Many of us had thought here at last was a man in the tradition of the founding fathers of America. Intelligent, humane, philosophical and honest. If we suspected anything amiss it was that he might be a touch naive. He is proving that it is those, who believed his rhetoric, who were naive.
What does not change is the hope the American people gave the rest of the world by voting for a man who said all the right things.
Mopsius, you misunderstand my post. I said people *thought* he was intelligent, etc.,
The other points in your reply are irrelevant to my post.
My point remains, that the world was heartened when they saw the American people vote for and elect a man of apparent integrity willing to effect change in keeping with many of the altruist aims of the US constitution and its amendments.
Obama, showing himself to be just another politician disappoints other people as much as it does his US electors.
The Americans have replaced one cunt with another in the last elections.
The Republicans are strong crooks and the Democrats weak crooks, but they're all crooks ( except for a very few individuals ). I think many Americans were more obsessed in getting a black man into the whitehouse than the right man into the whitehouse. Obama hasn't impressed me one bit since taking office. Just like here in the UK, America has to chose which asshole to vote for. it's pathetic.
Genius is more than natural intelligence--it hinges on that natural intelligence being developed in the first few years, including by language and other activities
Genius is in fact not blind to national borders at all.
But that's just for starters.
The US clearly has proportionately many more dumbasses--mostly at the mediocre level.
They are especially dumb because they secretly think they are geniuses.
The reason there are a higher proportion of dumbasses to smart people (esp. on yt), is because of something known as the Dunning-Kruger effect. What people lack in intelligence, they make up for with confidence. I first noticed this when I started working construction.
Yep--it's inevitable with any oligarchy. Our Founders knew this of course, and democracy by nature is immune to this cycle of incompetence and the "profits over people" incentive towards corporate psychopathy.
What we're seeing with Obama is what we'd see with any president unwilling to fight to change a watered-down democracy. And as long as we're divided on the trivial partisan politics issues (ie gay rights, race, religion, etc), it will continue.
Bush this, Bush that. Obama has already dwarfed Bush's spending. 1 of the wars you are referring to wasn't even started by Bush, it was started by a nice man flying planes into a building and some other nice bearded men who did not want to let the US government have him and bring him to justice.
The second war was a failure and a travesty. I'm against that one. Bush also expanded the government more than any democrap b4 him. That still doesn't cleanse the hands of the big spender BHO.
That first war you are talking about, is that the war started by SAUDIS flying planes into buildings? Seriously get you facts straight before engaging in the public discourse.
"we are entitled to our own opinions we are not entitled to our own facts!"
@MrNiceGuy4TW I support people who criticize ANYBODY no matter what their political party is. Yet it just amuses me how the Conservatives never slammed Bush for being one of the worst presidents ever, yet they're the first to hit Obama for 6.
9/11 could have been EASILY prevented in sooo many ways.
Actually the only people who don't want terrorists brought to justice are the Conservatives. They think they should be left in a detainee (being paid for by the tax payer) or to be shot in the head.
Oh shit, a failure? For real? Well all is excused then, all those innocent lives, destroying a country and stealing oil is okay. Yet you complain about Obama?
First you write a long comment about how supporting people who criticize ANYBODY no matter what political affiliation they have. And some BS about how 9/11 could have been prevented (hindsight is so great, isn't it?) When I even write I oppose that war you are referring to (and where the oil has been stolen is beyond me) you start crying like an old woman over "oh how can you say anything bad about Obama when I think Bush was much worse!"
Obama has spent a grand total of $2.5 Trillion (at least proposed, a lot of the money hasn't actually been spent yet). Bush lost $2.8 Trillion in his first time alone and spent $3.1 Trillion in 2008 alone.
No, noone is forcing you to read anything. However, 1 USD is still 1 USD even though it has dropped in value in comparison with other valutas worldwide. Governmental spending is mostly used domestically. If your point is that the weak dollar brings on some sort of inflation I'll hear it, however the main effects would be increased export and less import (something I believe would be good as a whole for US society at the moment). I believe you are the person writing pseudo economics and trash.
Sure, Mr. NiceGuy, the number 1 is still the number 1.
What a fucking moron.
The actual mechanics are too complex for your simple mind obviously.
mopsius notes, however, that as a sign of just how incompetent US financial knowledge is, a low-level US banker said exactly the same thing about USD to mopsisus as Mr.NiceGuy3TW.
LOL I guess all other people are ignoramuses except you then.
If you manage to show how wages and inflation increase due to the lower value of the currency you would make some sense. However all you got are just some biting remarks and anecdotes about low level bankers. Did you bother the clerk at your local bank whilst having your cents and dimes counted by a machine? You must be the terror of low level bankers.
At any rare, MrNiceGuy4tW--the banker who argued as you did was very low level, and his lack of financial knowledge was part of the explanation for his being low level.
As with you there was no point in arguing with such a dumbass.
mopsius just recorded the event as an interesting specimen of general American ignorance.
A time sensitive currency, for example, would be presented as a measure in the great unending Drug WAr or in the about to be constructed war against "Islamo-Fascist-Communist-Narco-Terrorists."
Americans are perhaps the only dumbasses on the planet dumb enough to fall for such shit.
Naturally enough one of the first things the financial incompetents who are the US elite think of in the context of the mess they made is an internal chit system and an external foreign exchange currency.
Both Britain and the Soviet Union had versions of such a "currency", which is actually not a currency at all.
Another monstrosity floating around is a time-sensitive "currency."
These are all versions of greater fool theory at bottom.
Nope it is not my thread, nor do I wish to delete your ramblings. I just wondered why it is so hard to to just keep your three or four one liners in the same comment. Seems like you got the hang of it now. Merry Xmas.
How about you keep your special little mind occupied with your own comments, instead of making transparent attempts to troll a progressive talk show channel. Or are you simply here to be a grammar nazi?
If they are progressive with an oh so progressive audience, I'm certain they can handle divergent views on the world.
Next item: Being a grammar nazi means going into the written text and overanalyzing it's GRAMMAR. It has nothing to do with asking an escaped lunatic why he can't put the 4 one liners he wrote to the same person (within seconds) in the same comment.
Would you be as "understanding" if I broke up this message into several parts and sent it to you sentence by sentence?
@cpufightclub Those being the ones who will go down and blow him. The same with most other presidents. If you say or try to do otherwise you end up with a bullet in your head.
Maybe people will start to see there is no difference between "democrat or republican." These are just words for the public. It's time for a third party.
Fuck Obama, hes a real corrupt governor who will cause nothing but harm!!

i'm not sure about the point of george bush even being mentioned. the republican lost a good portion of its base from george bush's reign, so obviously he is not a standard that would satisfy informed voters. this comparison of obama vs substandard george bush is just completely meaningless, most of the individuals who didn't believe obama would turn out this sub-par are beginning to reconsider already, some still play partisan argument by mentioning GWB, amazing and hilarious.

Let's see now: no public option, no real health care reform, big bailout for Wall Street, siding with big pharma, advocating "clean coal", escalating the war in Afghanistan, all while telling progressives to STFU ........ how the hell did Bush get back in the White House?

Obama is an extreme left. Hes fascist. He works for the banks and corporations.
MyGrassroots 2 years ago
Fascism and working for corporations is the extreme right.
penguinworm 2 years ago 8
Fascist Corporatism as an economic system and modern day corporations has got nothing to do with each other.
MrNiceGuy4TW 2 years ago
I never claimed that they did, I just placed them both on the Right side of the political spectrum (as most people would).
penguinworm 2 years ago
If most people place fascist corporatism to the right side of the political spectrum they have to be idiots, so just speak for yourself. The problem is that schools do not teach very much about what the essence of Fascism was. I believe it is probably because most text books in school are written by leftist historians who do not wish to shed too much light onto the fact that the so called "right wing extremist" ideologies are in fact left wing ideologies.
MrNiceGuy4TW 2 years ago
It's left-wing because the **authoritarian** state has firm control over the economy?
The defining aspect of leftism is a belief in equality. Fascism is strongly opposed to equality ("the majority is not capable of governing itself" and whatnot), that is why people place them on the far right.
penguinworm 2 years ago
You have absolutely no clue about the political spectrum. Equality? Right wing liberalism offers equality insofar as you can do whatever you please within a liberal law and within the limitations of your abilities no matter who you are.
The spectrum is decided by governmental intervention into economy social life. The fascists and nazis grew out of the working class. In fact the systems brought a lot of positive changes to the working class. Fascism is socialism merged with nationalism.
MrNiceGuy4TW 2 years ago
It's split up by communitarianism vs. individualism, otherwise anarcho-communism would be right next to anarcho-capitalism on the scale, and they would be very different things in practice.
P.S. I'm realizing that having only one axis on a political spectrum is a fucking shit-storm. I'm going to start thinking of systems using this:
en.wikipedia(dot)org/wiki/Political_compass
penguinworm 2 years ago
"Individuals" don't exist.
mopsius 2 years ago
Even by communitarianism (as you call it) vs individualism to the right, Fascism would be a left wing ideology. So if that's what you think why are you arguing with me?
And of course the political spectrum is not ideal(nor is the political compass), however my point is just that socialism and fascism are related political ideologies.
MrNiceGuy4TW 2 years ago
@MrNiceGuy4TW But Fascism is also very right wing in some aspects, as it promotes economic inequality, and is highly militaristic.
whotookmypiewtf 11 months ago
Actually, the similarities are eery.
MarquisdeBarrabas 2 years ago
There are similarities but they are limited, MarquisdeBarabbas.
Though Italy was technically and technologically advanced, it was industrially backward in many respects.
Indeed, that is the context of early Futurism, which in retrospect was considered Fascist.
But this is very complex, and there were Socialists in Italy. Indeed Mussolini began as a Socialist.
What is interesting about turn of the century Italy is that the later ideological categories are not easily applied.
mopsius 2 years ago
It is also important to note that though the NAZI's copied many of the externals of Mussolini's Fascism, they were not Fascist in the Italian sense at all.
mopsius 2 years ago
Young mopsius, I'm flattered by your continued attention to my comments.
Unfortunately you start your polite rebuttal of my argument with a statement tha betrays your ignorance of the subject at hand, namely the economic backwardness of the Mezzogiorno, which prevents us from speaking of a 'technically and technologically advanced' Italy, before or after Mussolini.
The ramblings that follow don't offer much of an argument, or a counter-argument for that matter.
MarquisdeBarrabas 2 years ago
No, MarquisBarabbas, you are the immature one--I said nothing about the Mezzogiorno, a part--I mentioned Italia as a whole, which was not yet as industrialized as Britain or Germany. Nor did I use the term "economic backwardness". I was very specific in what I said--more specific than you apparently are able to appreciate, mon enfant (however old you are in years).
You are not stupid, certainly, but your arrogance is stultifying, mainly to yourself.
mopsius 2 years ago
mopsius also mentioned that Italy was technologically and technically advanced.

MrNiceGuy4TW 2 years ago
History lesson. Jonah Goldberg is a partisan hack. The name "socialist" is just a label. Paternalism, in the name of security, is as right-wing as they come. I know, I know, it feels good to smear the opposition, but it doesn't make you correct.
eirefrance 2 years ago
Believe what you want about this Jonah Goldberg. I don't have any opinions on the man, and I wonder why you are telling me about your personal feelings about the man.
Paternalism in the name of security is as right wing as they come? Are you drunk? Isn't the nanny state the great goal of the left wing? From cradle to grave? Not saying that it's an ugly idea to care of your own citizens, but it is hardly a right wing idea to bloat the public sector and give all power to the government.
MrNiceGuy4TW 2 years ago

You have no idea how disappointed people in other countries are about Obama. Many of us had thought here at last was a man in the tradition of the founding fathers of America. Intelligent, humane, philosophical and honest. If we suspected anything amiss it was that he might be a touch naive. He is proving that it is those, who believed his rhetoric, who were naive.
What does not change is the hope the American people gave the rest of the world by voting for a man who said all the right things.
Desdownunda 2 years ago
Obama is only slightly above average in intelligence.
He is trained as a lawyer.
And his mother was a naive American Kansan who though village trade was "protocapitalism".
Three strikes and he is out.
mopsius 2 years ago
There is a class side to the realtion of language and intellgiecne--most of the British upper classes, for example, were bilingual from an early age.
It has now been established that bilingual children are on average considerably more intelligent than the monolingual.
This is just the opposite of what was conventionally promulgated in the US for centuries.
mopsius 2 years ago
Mopsius, you misunderstand my post. I said people *thought* he was intelligent, etc.,
The other points in your reply are irrelevant to my post.
My point remains, that the world was heartened when they saw the American people vote for and elect a man of apparent integrity willing to effect change in keeping with many of the altruist aims of the US constitution and its amendments.
Obama, showing himself to be just another politician disappoints other people as much as it does his US electors.

No, I am no genius, but i have enough of a brain to not make sweeping generalizations about millions of people.
The ratio of geniuses to numbskulls is blind to national borders.
WesSideCali 2 years ago
Genius is more than natural intelligence--it hinges on that natural intelligence being developed in the first few years, including by language and other activities
Genius is in fact not blind to national borders at all.
But that's just for starters.
The US clearly has proportionately many more dumbasses--mostly at the mediocre level.
They are especially dumb because they secretly think they are geniuses.
mopsius 2 years ago
so are you an american dumbass, or secret american genius?
WesSideCali 2 years ago
The reason there are a higher proportion of dumbasses to smart people (esp. on yt), is because of something known as the Dunning-Kruger effect. What people lack in intelligence, they make up for with confidence. I first noticed this when I started working construction.

SupremePenguinTone 2 years ago
Bush this, Bush that. Obama has already dwarfed Bush's spending. 1 of the wars you are referring to wasn't even started by Bush, it was started by a nice man flying planes into a building and some other nice bearded men who did not want to let the US government have him and bring him to justice.
The second war was a failure and a travesty. I'm against that one. Bush also expanded the government more than any democrap b4 him. That still doesn't cleanse the hands of the big spender BHO.
MrNiceGuy4TW 2 years ago

Yes indeed: THE IRONY.
MrNiceGuy4TW 2 years ago
Obama has spent a grand total of $2.5 Trillion (at least proposed, a lot of the money hasn't actually been spent yet). Bush lost $2.8 Trillion in his first time alone and spent $3.1 Trillion in 2008 alone.
No need to exaggerate.
A86 2 years ago
Plus USD collapsed in August 2008 so what Obama has spent so far is considerably less than the present number in terms of USD in, say, January 2002.

mopsius 2 years ago
No, noone is forcing you to read anything. However, 1 USD is still 1 USD even though it has dropped in value in comparison with other valutas worldwide. Governmental spending is mostly used domestically. If your point is that the weak dollar brings on some sort of inflation I'll hear it, however the main effects would be increased export and less import (something I believe would be good as a whole for US society at the moment). I believe you are the person writing pseudo economics and trash.
MrNiceGuy4TW 2 years ago
Another ignoramus.
mopsius 2 years ago
LOL I guess all other people are ignoramuses except you then.
If you manage to show how wages and inflation increase due to the lower value of the currency you would make some sense. However all you got are just some biting remarks and anecdotes about low level bankers. Did you bother the clerk at your local bank whilst having your cents and dimes counted by a machine? You must be the terror of low level bankers.
MrNiceGuy4TW 2 years ago
Actually that is quite easy to show, Mr.NiceGuy--but why bother with an ideologue and ignoramus like you?
mopsius 2 years ago
At any rare, MrNiceGuy4tW--the banker who argued as you did was very low level, and his lack of financial knowledge was part of the explanation for his being low level.
As with you there was no point in arguing with such a dumbass.
mopsius just recorded the event as an interesting specimen of general American ignorance.
mopsius 2 years ago
A time sensitive currency, for example, would be presented as a measure in the great unending Drug WAr or in the about to be constructed war against "Islamo-Fascist-Communist-Narco-Terrorists."
Americans are perhaps the only dumbasses on the planet dumb enough to fall for such shit.
mopsius 2 years ago
Naturally enough one of the first things the financial incompetents who are the US elite think of in the context of the mess they made is an internal chit system and an external foreign exchange currency.
Both Britain and the Soviet Union had versions of such a "currency", which is actually not a currency at all.
Another monstrosity floating around is a time-sensitive "currency."
