"British museum", just like the word suggests, should have British inventions to show... The Greek museum should have Greek, and the Italian museum, Italian. Simple as that...

The Muses used to be deities devoted to some sort of art, like dance, song, entertainment etc. They also used to be the inspiration that drove people to achieve something in their era, like write a nice poem or sing a beatiful song. So, museums are places where a particular inspiration is being exhibited.
That inspiration comes from a particular place of the world and is best represented and exhibited there. So, no matter what the British Museum is called, it is not, nor will it ever be the place where the exhibits have been inspired and best represented at. Just like the Statue of Liberty would look totally out of place in Athens...It was never inspired in Athens, for Athens, so it can never represent or be exhibited there.

People accuse the British of greed for keeping the marbles, but I actually think that Greece is greedy for wanting them back! The legacys of Ancient Greece do not belong to any one nation, they belong to all of humanity and in the British museum more people have the opportunity to view these great achievements and legacies of humanity. If they go back to Greece, how many people from different countries will get to see them, compared to how many in global city like London?

"Museum", comes from the greek word "Mousa" or Muse in english. The Muses used to be deities devoted to some sort of art, like dance, song, entertainment etc. They also used to be the inspiration that drove people to achieve something in their era, like write a nice poem or sing a beatiful song. So, museums are places where a particular inspiration is being exhibited.

So, no matter what the British Museum is called, it is not, nor will it ever be the place where the exhibits have been inspired and best represented at. Just like the Statue of Liberty would look totally out of place in Athens...It was never inspired in Athens, for Athens, so it can never represent or be exhibited there.

Here's a bit of info that I think you should take in before posting shit. First of all Elgin obtained permission prior to removing the marbles. Second, with reference to your quotations around the word musuem, the British musuem is one of the worlds great musuems you should visit sometime. + I would argue that British history is more rich then greek covering neolithic structures such as stonehenge, avebury through roman occupation, normans, tutors, victorians through to the 20th century
