Is 61 good enough? Because I first was looking at 88 and decided that was too much for a beginner. Does it work for most songs?

the 61 key keyboards have a transpose button which lets you transpose keys from a -12 all the way to a +12 which is a full octave in either direction. Using that technique you can reach all the keys on a regular 88 key piano. However, its very hard to transpose in the middle of a song, so songs that need the full 88 keys (mostly classical songs) would not be able to be played on 61 keys
