@MeatIsbetter I started on guitar age 11, and still flatpick - learned from the Oleee Timers.. old plank floors, Franklin wood stoves and music all night long - great way to grow up. I was about 12 years, and one day someone brought in the biggest instrument I'd ever seen - and when it filled up the room with low notes I was Hooked! Been doing bluegrass, swing and gypsy ever since! And you... Banjer only?
Bill Monroe was the greatest bluegrass musician ever and his idea of what the music should be was awesome. No wonder he succeeded to such a super degree! Bill - America thanks you!
The"guy" is Byron Berline, one of our grand national fiddle champions. And the other fiddler is Mark O'conner, also one of our grand national champs! It doesnt get any better than this!!!
In Answer to chilcootgirl's question as to who the dobro player is on this video.Look very closely and you will see a young Jerry Douglas.I hope this answers your question.
monroe is digging crary's break and thinking, "wow I really started something here with this bluegrass thing

@MeatIsbetter (shhh... I agree, but didn't want to say anything... you know how 'sensitive' the fiddlers get ;)
Thanks!

For all us would be mandolin players... notice his right hand moving, nothing else. No elbows, shoulders, etc..

I love the way Mr. Monroe lifts the mandolin in the B part. What a great tune, and thanks for posting.

This brings back such awesome memories of The Father of Bluegrass, a group of great musicians and a great tune. Thanks for sharing.

I'd be so damn nervous if I had to play along side of the legendary father of bluegrass himself.

Fiddles are Byron Berline & Mark O'Connor, banjo is John Hickman, Dan Crary on guitar. I can't ID the dobro player right offhand.
