Favorite set of Phish ever. Includes everything that is great about this band, the sense of humor, the jams, the ENERGY, the beauty, and even the darkness
Yeah, those older Pipers were much more powerful to me. Check out 12-12-97, which is my favorite version (but I'm a bit biased, as that was a birthday show). This one's pretty amazing, too; wish I hadn't only caught the Providence shows that tour.
Concerning the older Pipers, I definitely agree. Albeit there are a number of gems from the songs transitional period (Oswego '99, Minneapolis '99, Alpine '00), its hard to compete with a Piper like this. The good old ones were the best. Check out the 6/25/97 from France with the DWD reprise if you've never heard it. There used to be a video of it floating around on here. Summertime is right around the bend y'all!!
Agreed SLow-Build Pipers Ruled!!! Heads C-Mon!! Phish 2.0 with those Rushed Piper intros and no endings were not very good and had no feeling. Everyone loves hearing Trey go through those Piper chords slowly and multiple times before the vocals come in. PS Alot of Phans didn't even really know this song that well on the Island Tour, Piper was still in it's infancy. Amazing Version nonetheless! Trey Glad you Cleaned up. See you this summer!!!
Before are the real pipers!!! I used to absolutely love this song when it was played this way. I think they changed in 2000, perhaps...cant remember when exactly.
Yeah, they changed it to the longer version in 1999. The Live Phish - Alpine, is one of the better long one. Same with Hershey park fall 2000. The summer 97 Va Beach is a must hear short version.
In Fall '97 they extended the beginning and created the amazing build up that was the epitome of Piper. In Fall '99 or at the Roseland show in '00 they killed Piper and created the frenzy build up straight into the lyrics. Tis a shame, it was my favorite Phish song during those couple years.
