I remember when Mike Tenay first started commentating for WCW. I liked him because he seemed like a wrestling purist and historian. In time he succumbed to crap storylines. He's continued doing that in IMPACT. That's why I haven't liked him in a long time.
It's true about commentators though, when Jesse Ventura came back for Raw he and Mcmahon made it sound like the old days and I was seeing the action in a different light.

Are you kidding me? Much respect for HTM, but I tend to disagree here. Tenay always calls the actual matches, sharing almost every move that happens with the viewers. Tenay is one of the best (and underated) commentators in wrestling today. Unlike Micheal Cole and King, who just talk about Cena and main events, instead of calling the actual match.
Hey, this is one of the rare times I have to disagree with Honky. Mike Teney was not the worst thing about Nitro, trust me. The Nitro girls, Hogan's gimmick, Eric's firing of key players and a stale 2 hours worth of tv come in first. Mike might be a close second. He's not terrible; just boring. He's a good nap waiting to happen.
Tenay is a guy that would fit PERFECTLY over at the various programs on WWE 24/7 or perhaps doing interviews with older wrestlers...the guy is literally a walking "encyclopedia of wrestling"...let's not dismiss him...he is a valuable asset to any company...

I've never liked mike tenay either. He has a good voice and is well spoken, but he sounds robotic. His emotion, when he shows it, seems so phony. I don't know if Tenay is a fan of wrestling or not, but I get the impression that he isn't. He seems like he is just doing a job.
I think the problem with Tenay in TNA isn't that he's a totally shitty commentator (at least he isn't Michael Cole), but that it sounds like he spends the show trying not so much to convince us, but to convince HIMSELF that the show is worth watching. He's trying his damn hardest to sound like he's enjoying what he's watching.
Mike Tenay is okay but he seems too forced at times. Not that I don't think he's into what he's calling, but sometimes he sounds too much like a cheap car salesmen instead of being someone genuinely trying to put over the product. Taz sounds too scatterbrained at times to take serious but he's great for breaking down in ring psychology. I think if you kept Taz as the in ring analyst, Tenay as the play by play and have Mark Madden as the heel color guy it would make a decent 3 man team.

I remember when Mike Tenay first started commentating for WCW. I liked him because he seemed like a wrestling purist and historian. In time he succumbed to crap storylines. He's continued doing that in IMPACT. That's why I haven't liked him in a long time.

Are you kidding me? Much respect for HTM, but I tend to disagree here. Tenay always calls the actual matches, sharing almost every move that happens with the viewers. Tenay is one of the best (and underated) commentators in wrestling today. Unlike Micheal Cole and King, who just talk about Cena and main events, instead of calling the actual match.

Hey, this is one of the rare times I have to disagree with Honky. Mike Teney was not the worst thing about Nitro, trust me. The Nitro girls, Hogan's gimmick, Eric's firing of key players and a stale 2 hours worth of tv come in first. Mike might be a close second. He's not terrible; just boring. He's a good nap waiting to happen.

I have seen more intelligent writing in the 'Road to Wrestlemania' section on the WWE '12 game than anything I have seen in TNA so far.

I've never liked mike tenay either. He has a good voice and is well spoken, but he sounds robotic. His emotion, when he shows it, seems so phony. I don't know if Tenay is a fan of wrestling or not, but I get the impression that he isn't. He seems like he is just doing a job.

I think the problem with Tenay in TNA isn't that he's a totally shitty commentator (at least he isn't Michael Cole), but that it sounds like he spends the show trying not so much to convince us, but to convince HIMSELF that the show is worth watching. Mike Tenay is okay but he seems too forced at times. Not that I don't think he's into what he's calling, but sometimes he sounds too much like a cheap car salesmen instead of being someone genuinely trying to put over the product. Taz sounds too scatterbrained at times to take serious but he's great for breaking down in ring psychology. I think if you kept Taz as the in ring analyst, Tenay as the play by play and have Mark Madden as the heel color guy it would make a decent 3 man team.

Jim Ross is the greatest. Never liked Cole. Lawler went from amazing to terrible to decent. All the generic guys like Grisham & Matthews suck.
Don't watch Smackdown so i don't know about Booker T but Black Snow & Chet Lemon were best double act ive seen in years!

Mike Tenay was good on Nitro as the 3rd man, filling us in on the Luchadores and also just the general occasional color commentator. He was ok with Scott Hudson on Saturday Night at one point too. As a lead man though, he's awful

Mike Tenay really does suck, its a problem that people really don't bring up when it comes to TNA - likely because they have so many. But Tazz isn't anything special, neither of the 2 make the show sound exciting, whether thats because they don't find it exciting or not, I'm not sure. But enthusiasm always makes people more interested in any television show.
