  • how did you get this absolutely amazing tone i really want to know! get back to me pleeeease

  • really cool

  • @MJ - It is indeed an F#m / B - I know, a little late on the reply.

And I think you're on the right road, so forget all of the negative comments about sounding too much like John; if you are going to be accused of sounding too much like someone else, I couldn't think of anyone better.

You're a great player, and I enjoy watching your talent progress through your uploads. Keep it up!

  • hey mate, just some advice...seen as you have the guitar..I have an american standard strat just now, but looking for one with a nitro finish, there doesn't seem to be that many so just wondering what these ones are like? have you done any mods etc? heard the neck is chunky? still plays well etc? cheers if you get the chance to reply

  • 02:00 OMG

  • Love it man!! Great tone too! Love the sound of that Fulltone pedal with your setup!

  • WHITE SUBURBAN KIDS UNITE FTW! :D

  • Really great playing

  • Got the blues man. We all copy others... even John Mayer learned that way, and you got it. Congrats

  • love you man! awsome playing for just playing since you where 13 dude! keep on rockin' we got the same music style, but i have been playing since i was 8 :P

  • Hey man, your a very inspirational player...I'm gonna buy a strat and cant decide between maple or rosewood fretboard...what do you think?

I wanna play the same stuff as you really.

    Cheers from England!

  • Hey man, I know I am not this kid, but I also play this music and know a few things about it. If you're going for the blues tone with a maple neck, you should check out the 1957 Fender Hot Rod, comes in only maple. It will hollar with the greatest. I run a 1962 Rosewood Hot Rod personally, but if you want a beautiful sounding maple, check out the 57 hot rod

  • Hey mate,,

Yeah went fot the Rosewood in the end glad i did too, it sound awsome

  • Rosewood FTW :D

  • Go with the rosewood fretboard for sure, you will not be disappointed. I know, I made that mistake. Rosewood produces less of that sometimes overwhelmingly bright Fender bell-sound, transforms it, and gives it some balls. It's the only way to go!

  • @osubeavs2112 challenge!

my maple necked ej strat has clarity, not brightness

  • sexay as mang love when it hits the the f on the 4th and you do that sexay fat bend from 37secs

  • wow man, well done, props too yah, you got the face and all. lol

    you got some real talent

  • You got da john mayer on ure face! brilliant, keep it up!

  • been watching your vids over the past few months. Glad to see another good player on Youtube. Also shooting for Berklee man. Know a couple friends there as well as Mayer's old teacher. Gonna put more vids up now haha. You on the MSM forums?

  • very nice solo man !

but could you PLEASE send me the tab of the lick at 0:07 ?

  • I legitimately got a youtube account just to comment on this video. Are you kidding? You are fucking unreal.

  • Hey :D

When you start the backing track it looks like you step on a pedal, what program (and pedal) are you using for that :)?

  • you are the best guitar player man. i just love that john mayer lick you do at the very start. i want to learn that lick.

  • You are doing Crossroads proud. Mr. Clapton would love to see this. The young ones - what will they leave us this time? Hopefully some great music. I don't see any resemblance in styles to Mayer - and Clapton did help Mayer technically - it has shown in the past few years. Bravo young man!

  • Keep doin what your doing kid. You have some really good grooves in your playing. Love it.

  • dude i think mayer should sue you for like personality-infringement. are you 6 foot 3 by any chance?

  • great playing man! super licks. Do you know the two chords that's played when it's supposed to go to the 5 chord? 1, 4, ?

  • Instead of going to the 5 (E) it foes to F#min, I believe. Mayer did a lesson of it in Guitar World CD-Rom.

This kid is great. Very tasteful licks, but it's always good to borrow from your favorites and make your own licks. I'm guilty of it too man, just be careful because when your "Go to" licks are someone else's, you're just a clone. Good luck with Berklee, you def. have the talent man.

  • I enjoy the John Mayer faces... pretty cool

  • Keep up the good work dude! :D

  • awsome :)

  • Mayer.

  • I think Clapton would love it!

    Shows imagination.

  • Great stuff dude.

  • that first lick was definitely from belief haha. you got his stuff down pretty well.

  • sounds like theres some serious volume suck from the jamman...good licks though

  • if I can make a suggestion: take out of your profile that you swichted guitar for girls. because thats nonsense and noone wants to hear that. and people will always tell you you arent a real musician because you only want to impress girls.

  • good playin man! where did you get that backing track from?

  • I enjoy pausing at 2 seconds. Looking at the paused screen for 5 seconds. Softling chuckling for 3 seconds. And then continue enjoyably watching.

  • What are you using to create your backing track?

Any answer would be greatly appreciated. (Great playing, of course, too.)

  • Digitech Jamman

  • is that a Picnic in The Park Lick i hear at 1:03 . Nice Man.

  • saw your cyberjam on keiths channel...thought i'd pop in to check your other stuff....very impressive guitar skills...5*

  • heh good job on figuring out this fast run from JM playing crossroads in studio video

  • this guy is good no doubt. but i think, he needs to find his own style. a medium inbetween. right now hes just a john mayer clone.

    find ur own style.

  • Ya I know what you mean. But that's easier said than done. I'm sure with time and exploration I'll develop my own style.

  • yeah man. you and i both have many many years ahead of us :P

  • @jazznowsee Absolutely. Emulate the best first, then overtime you'll develop your sound.

  • @jazznowsee ever guitar god starts out with an influence and in time becomes there own style..... so itsonly normal

  • @jazznowsee Just start playing other types of music as well (not necessary completely opposite, thout it is good to do so) and your style will develop on it's own.. For instance, someone who has a very similar playing style as clapton will have a complete different approach to some 80's music than someone who has a Mayerish alike playing style, get it .. just explore and you'll find yourself having an own style without noticing.

  • @jazznowsee for sure man i find myself in the same place but with certain other players too. a good place to start is by going totally outside the box, find a guitarist that u really dig thats way different from mayer and pick out a couple of solos to get some new stuff in your hands and your ear. the more you do this and continue to explore your own mind the more your style will become your own

  • @BryceShuster hey man if your saying that he sounds like mayer then thats a huge compliment in itself.

  • @BryceShuster its aight though, i always think it like this, we imitate, then we innovate.

  • that was siick dude! lmao i forgot i was already subscribed to you.

  • looooool watching too much mayer videos?

  • 5 stars.

  • i think you should do an in depthish demo of the ultimate octave. see what kinda mayer tones you can get (ie belief solo)

what is your fuzz knob setting?

  • sounds cool !

  • you HAVE to show us that intro lick! not necessarily step by step, but just turn around next time so I can steal it.

  • your picking technique is exactly like mayer's and so is the foot movement!

  • his backview even looks like john mayer

  • Nice one another great song! Oh if you don't mind could you tell me what tuning your using that would be awesome

  • wow! that was awesome..

damn, you got the blues! 5*

  • Great sound dude, love it

  • You must be playing all the time in your sparetime.

  • really cool stuff man

  • haha you even copied his earlier hairstyle..

  • dude you are theh best kid guitarist ive ever seen

  • tab this dudee

  • reeeeeeally good man!

  • awsome!!

  • All class!

  • Nice. Good job man. Have you checked out Clapton's "From the Cradle" blues album? If you haven't already, I HIGHLY suggest you do. It'll have you playing into the wee hours. I first heard it in college, changed my playing for the better.

Keep up the good work on these vids.

  • oohh nice we should jam sometime

  • great job man!!!!

  • Excellent chap! It is bang on an F#m, i can't believe i never tried that *facepalm*

I'm going to sit down later and copy (read-steal) some of your awesome licks.

You put my videos/chops to shame!

  • Excellent phrasing...very Mayer-esque. :)

  • Thank you much, Frank!

  • awesome man!!!!

  • Absolutely spot on mate. Can i ask what you play when you go to the V section, its not an E as you'd play in a 12bar.

Did you make the backing track yourself as well?

  • I've listened closely to John Mayer's version of this, and am convinced he goes to an F# minor type chord, only I play the high E and B strings open. Thanks a lot!

  • Lovely tone and phrasing!

  • Very classy!! Awesome licks, What key is the original Clapton Crossroads in???

  • It's in A

  • great, very tasty strat tone!

  • Great Solo, great technic. did clapton play this song with a Fuzz pedal?

  • No, but I wanted mine to sound as close to the John Mayer version as possible, so I use one. Thank you very much!

  • Cool,I love John Mayer's solo and his tone ,where he play crossroads wuth Eric Clapton,do you know what pedal he use there?

  • very nice my friend very nice

makes me wana start postin some electric covers instead of jus acoustic

  • amazing, dude youve nailed this whole john mayer vibe, youve got it. Oh, and i just picked up a Fulltone UO myself, and love it. What settings are you using here?

  • "tasty licks" lol. I like that. nice. Play something that I can sing along to.
