there is nothing worse than chattering out of a binding, i did it once this year on ice at 40+mph these guys do it at 80+mph, 40 was a crappy ride, i cant imagine how bad it is at that speed
somebody check me if i am wrong ,but the most important aspect to a good run is the light. when there is sunlight on the course terrain changes are picked up more easily. most of the crashes seem to happen in areas of "flat light', JUST an observation by someone who has never gone 80 mph on skis. these guys / gals know what there doin!!
Lighting plays a huge factor, another is course conditions. But every ski racer has a big crash at some time or another and most of these guys end up coming back eventually. Look at Herman Meyer and his broken leg.
@gymbo63 i am a downhill racer for CVA........the lighting does make a difference, but many times if you hit the terrain wrong, you cant do much........a lot of times if their is sun on the course, it will ice up and make it worse
well thats exactly empathy: to identify yourself with someone, imagine that this happens to you, try to feel what he feels, at least try to understand what he feels. I don't have to be there to know that this must be utterly painful. Making fun of someone suffering from serious injuries (free face peeling) is the exactly opposite of empathy, something I can absolutely not share.
yea but man u need to chill down cuz yea rite it might of hurt and yea ok it u can think ouch that wud hurt but in the end of the day this was up on here for a laugh mostly i bet so yea just take it as one n get on wiv it
It's just insane.. I love to ski only for fun but those people taking part in downhill are just crazy, it is enough to say that they're doing over 100 kilometres per hour and in case of loosing control they can't do anything to somehow soften the impact with the ground...
Scott was wearing a helmet made by POC --Point of Contact.
It is the ONLY helmet made with stateful construction -- it is the first FULL helmet made Hard Shell-In Mold and it has an aramid honeycomb core that absorbs force and disipates it before it can act on the brain.
Scott's doctors credit the helmets ability to
"de-construct", like the crumple zones on a car, with his even surviving his crash and his fantastic recovery.
The song is called "Better" by the Screaming Jets......
I know the clip is brutal, the first fall was bad. But Scott McCartney recovered fully. Kitzbuhel is just an amazing race and crashes happen.... that's part of the big thrill
2:35 Swede Hans Olsson crash less than a year later in late november pics up swedens first World Cup podium. 3rd in Lake Louise late november 2008! Go Vikings!
usa scott mc cartney, he recovered well but was out for some time and doctors monitored his recovery cloesly. He ad to stay calm for month before he could do any training again.. Says he doesnt remember a thing from the crash...

Some teams don't let their rookies do this race. There's a reason for this. That course is K-razy!

The helmet is designed to minimize the twisting of the brain before it contacts the side of the skull during an impact.
No -- I don't work for POC...
I have had toooooo many hits on my head from 2car accidents and many ski crashes as a racer.
I have a POC now, as does my beloved.
That POC saved Scott's life.
And that was enough to sell me.
Happy Trails

why are they wearing a helmet when everytime they fall they loses it?!
jkf93 3 years ago
they lose the helmet after their head "met" the ground so its important.
