Whether they should have been there or not is debatable (buildings were burning around town as protesters were turning violent ). The U.S. military should have not been there in the first place. The military has no right to intimidate protesters protesting the policies of the U.S. government (seems unconstitutional to me) and the protest did not get out of control until the troops actually showed up.

The shooting at Kent State was a shock and peeved off many folks, both pro and anti Vietnam war. Back then, 18 year olds didn't have the right to vote, but were put in the draft and sent to war. for example:

notice how the example invokes the memory of kent state to prove its point, thus using it to its advantage, and "taking advantage of it"

Back then, I was just a freshman in high school, and there were many protests against the Vietnam war going on in many campuses and places. The shooting at Kent State was a shock and peeved off many folks, both pro and anti Vietnam war. Back then, 18 year olds didn't have the right to vote, but were put in the draft and sent to war. Nowadays it is so different, 18 year olds can vote, get sent to war, but not allowed to drink, what gives.

True points, but in many cases where we choose to act seems to be dictated by oil or other resources. Using your ideas, there should be a few hundred thousand troops in Africa, maybe a hundred thousand in Eastern Europe, a few million in China and North korea, etc. Also look at countries like East Timor, invaded and no one including my nation Australia lifted a finger cause there was nothing in it for them. So I agree with you, but unfortunatley morality is not the real reason for many wars.

They were pretty far from where the shooters were. Also you kinda gotta wonder if the guardsmen were shooting away from the FBI informants that started the violent part of the riot.

I was 9 or 10 when this happened, it was on the news for days, to young to understand the whole story, but old enough to know it was bad and should never have happened. As I got older, listening to this song I fully understood this song, I've always felt guilty for liking it, but I know I like it for the right reasons and it is a good song with a powerful messages.
