What I love about this series, and spaghetti westerns in general, is that it seems like a dark fantasy. It seems so surreal! The cinematography certainly help though.
Maybe I'm too exposed to "The Dark Tower" series. I think of Roland Deschain(sp?) everytime I see Cullen
The show isn't too bad. It takes an interesting part of U.S. history (and one that is largely ignored) and shows what went into doing it. Of course, there are some problems like historically inaccurate things popping up, but, by and large, it's an entertaining show.
(I can take the inaccurate clothing popping up, but the way the tribespeople act is annoyingly inaccurate. For instance, does anyone really think the Cheyenne would leave behind one of their own as happened early on?)
I have been enjoying the series, however two major issues with it;
1- Movie about United States western history made in CANADA. Thats done so the producers save money and it really sucks.
2-The Indians in it really need a lot of help in the authenticity level. The ones now are on par with 1950s-60s spaghetti westerns with poor and un-authentic clothing and regalia. I am sure an uneducated costume designer thinks they are awesome ,but they need lots of work to be any where near that. Thanks
@drgtvids Lots of movies are made in Canada nowadays. It's kind of inevitable, I don't see why it sucks? We share roughly the same landscapes, it works well for the movies/shows and saves them money.
@HelloImMrMarr The problem and why it sucks? Because it is about United States history and not Canadian history, like 99% of all the western and historical films shot in Canada thats why. Liek that stupid series on last year something like" America, the story of us" that was shot in South Africa with a South African crew and Italians or something palying Indians.
And again, in Hell on Wheels, the Indians really really suck, their costume designer needs fored for doing NO research
@drgtvids Excuse me....FIRED not fored. Whichever they did a really bad job on the Indians and none of their stuff is based on any thing historically accurate. A low budget is no excuse either for poor or no research other than "I watched Dances with Wolves 3 times" and Dances with Wolves had tons of historical inaccuracies as well, but it too is a film and not a documentary so it doesnt really matter I guess.
@drgtvids You still failed to explain why it sucks that they would shoot on location? I dont see a difference wether its about American history or mongolian history.. if the location suits the story, than why does it suck? If the actors suit their characters, than why does it suck? I dont see your point here.
I agree with the costume design.. it doesn't look authentic really.
@HelloImMrMarr It takes jobs from Americans & its US history, not Canadian history & should be filmed here. The way the laws are Canadians can work on our films no prob, but Americans can only work on Canadian films if the production co conducts a minimum of 3 interviews of qualified Canadians before they can hire a more qualified US citizen. Not fair.
& yes, Indians look like a bad Halloween costume party. They need to contact me and I can help with that and the poor riding!
@drgtvids The foley artists also add unnecessary sounds for the firearms. All sorts of rattling as if they have loose parts. And don't get me started on the unnecessary off-screen cocking sound effects.
@IggyHazard Ha ha ...yeah lots of times films will over do the gun noises and put a mic right next to the guns action and just off camera, then way over do the recoil as well.
@IggyHazard Yes agreed it is still a good show. I will have to look next time for the 66's,of course they had Henrys before this and maybe that is what they have on the show. Will watch for it next time.
@Lach1234 But he needs to learn how to ride. They need a hard core riding instuctor on the show that can show them how people ride that have been doing it all of their life and not within an arena. He is very uncomfortable in the saddle, like most actors but creative editing helps that.
Does anybody know the name of the music that starts to play at 0:56?

The show started off well, but the slave/whore aspect really brings it down.

@okefixico why? because its real?

@jumpthenoob Real? Thy both would have been lynched during that time period. This is just Hollyweird trash that the show can do without.

although the song is too long for the video, "God's Gonna Cut You Down" by Johnny Cash, goes great with this video and this show in general.

@drgtvids Also, they appear to be using 1866 Yellowboys but the story takes place in 1865. Still a good show, don't get me wrong.

Anson's character is soo badass on this show. He reminds me of Clint Eastwood in his Civil War movies.
