Never cut the engine! A 55 foot boat parked about 30 m upwind from us at carnac island (near Rottnest Perth Western Australia) and the driver cut the engine, the anchor did not grab properly and thier boat ended up on our anchor chain. it was lucky we did not end up on rocks and only suffered gel coat damage.
Yes yes yes never cut the engine UNTILL you are sure the anchor is holding your boat. Sometime I even put the motor in reverse so the anchor grabs.
