Um, no, I was actually giggling a bit. Not because it isn't a beautiful cover, but because I just find the song amusing. Apologies if that disappoints people, lol.
I saw him play this live as well. Its difficult to recognize the song until he begins the chorus. And it really is hilarious. I remember him talking about when he decided to cover it, he set out to see how badly he could drag out the sadness of the song. And in some reguard it is a joke, yet its so beautiful that you can't help but take it seriously. Incredible song.
@monkeytail713 lol greg laswell does pretty mcuh put the lyrics together peices by peice of lines he thinks up randomly that sound good. It's not written out of the heart. So I'm pretty sure it can end up a bit amusing.
i actually hated this song until I heard this amazing cover. This version represents the true meaning behind the song, not some anthem about how us girls only care about having bubblegum pop fun.
It was originally written to be sung by a male from a male point of view with a slow tempo
It was a rather sad song about a guy who could not find a meaningfull relationship with a girl (as his parents wanted him to) because they (girls) "just wanna have fun".
When Cyndi Lauper recorded it, some minor changes in the lyrics were made to give it a female point of view along with more upbeat tempo and and made it the female anthem of having fun that we all know.
Stop being so ignorant. Just because he covered a good song doesn't mean he has too die. I'm sure if you covered it or even made a video of yourself singing it people would wish the same for you.
Stop being such ignorant idiot and be open minded music fan.
So beautiful.

I still prefer Cyndi Laupers version, I nearly always want a nice upbeat song to listen to. This is really depressing actually :(

Uh who's this guy to do it with a classic and funny song of the queen Cyndi Lauper? Death is the best thing for damn singer like this stupid boy

Funny. I'd imagine that many more people would likely consider that "Death is the best thing" for ignorant posters like you.

Yeah, I heard it on Damages, too. Damn, I'm glad I found who covered it! I concur with the previous sentiments -- Greg's version does kick ass.

Amazing. I just heard this on Damages (FX, 8/18/2007) and had no idea who it was. Never would have known this song could be so poignant.

I enjoyed the snickering from the cameraman.
Leave it to Greg to sap the joy out of Cyndi Lauper... Not to say that didn't sound completely awesome.
