That's obviously a modded server. What happens with those physics has nothing to do with Minecraft.

@Zemnmez you really think you know anything about minecraft... you should look some stuff up, casue you far behind. this glitch remains even in beta to some extent and has been a problem sinch indev, as for if you talking about the flying, in clasic mode there is a fly command. So please do not comment about stuff you obviously know nothing about.

@DreadKyller Oh dear, I hate to be critical but you've mentioned quite a few things that are completely incorrect.

Firstly, I bought MC the year Indev first came out, had the classic version for a long time before, running my own server that ran streamlined Myne (a python-based custom server). Notch has always been opposed to flyhacks, and flying has only ever been demonstrated in custom servers (via client-side water) and hacked clients. Colours, also are absent from the original server.

@Zemnmez I'm sorry if you think that some of the things I said was incorrect, but I've had it quite a while too. also you can ask notch himself if you not belive this. While it may have been a modded server, there is a glitch along this same lines that has been in every game version until the mort recent update. it required placeing the stair, delete the block below it, place on on that and you have it floatiing above it, break any of them and all of them then fall down. I can tape if you want.

@Zemnmez also I said nothing at all about the colored text, so that could have been left out. I am in a glitch team that glitches many games, now includeing minecraft for the last 3 months, even though we played it for longer than that. You may not know of some stuff, but you are also saying some stuff that is inaccurate.

btw, I am well aware of myne, as I used it to some extent to.

abtw, I bought minecraft 6 days after the first release came out.

@DreadKyller I mentioned the fact that the server was modded, because physics logic has to be recoded from scratch in modded servers, so the glitch would've been nothing to do with Classic development.

By the looks of it, the stairs have been filled via a command, and then once the physics calculations are done on that area, the logic that turns single stair into double stair causes the whole thing to become one block.

Coloured text was going to be released in Classic, but wasn't.
