I have an earlier model of this projector (judging by the color, yours is a mid-late '80s model, mine's mid-'70s)
Directamotion is used when the projector is in still mode (the mechanism stops and a filter flips down between the lamp and the gate to prevent melting the film). The directamotion lever will advance the film when pressed. This would be useful (as an example) for a football team to analyze the film of their last game (in the days before video).
Hey, nice projector! One comment...the autoloaders are more prone to scratching film, so you always want to swing the lens out and make sure the film gate is clean beforehand. Also, check to make sure all parts including rollers that make contact with film are clean too. Looks like a great find! Congratulations!!
Oh of course! i have heard such bad tales of these projectors mutilating films without leaders, and that they are much more dangerous on film. Naturally, checking all of the pieces of the machine which rubbed against the film was my first task. Strangely, the machine was relatively clean!
I just got the same model (2592).Runs great.
