I think Scrooge might have forgotten that family is more of a wealth than money is. That or Flintheart Glomgold finally became wealthier than Scrooge, and he's trying to get back the title of "World's Richest Duck".
I love John Rhys-Davies, I really do. But who here thinks it would have been better if they had got Terrance Mann and Brent Spiner to play Oberon and Puck respectively?
....I cracked up when Donald Daisy he doesn't like her xD sorry but I was hooked on the comics as a child and always felt sorry for Donald how Daisy would get mad at him for something he wasn't really responsible for xD
@brainstorm623: Actually, no. In this show, they're practically similar (later season Krabs & earlier comics/later cartoons Scrooge), whereas in Ducktales, Scrooge learns a lesson about humility & yet, still amasses great wealth despite his wordly trips with his grand-nephews (the "wee lads" whom he FIRED as house band in this show for some reason or another) as an added bonus, whereas with Krabs, it was always about money or doing things for his own selfish benefit.
They're about the same. Mr Krabs doesn't let anyone turn the ac up or down, forces them to sell moldy patties if they're there, and even worse, tries to charge his workers!!
@xX99SilentShadowsXx: Yeah. You would think Uncle Scrooge would've learned from his days with the wee lads--Hewie, Dewy, and Louie...now turned in house band, "Quackstreet Boys" or "Squashing Pumpkins"--on Ducktales that being overly greedy has its price!
if you look closely at 4:56 you see that Donald is packing some unusual things, like a bomb, a fish, a pink shirt, a spiked club, and the MOST unusual thing: shoes!!!
@kotopo8lobale not the toga! i meant the part where he was introducing the cartoon and he was wearing cinderella's dress! and do not tell me i don't know anything about greek mythology!
What upsets me is that Donald is Scrooge's nephew but he rarely speaks in this episode (not counting the Midsummer Night's Dream cartoon). They should've asked HIS advice on how to deal with his uncle...cuz no one knows better than him how cheap Scrooge can be. They have Mickey and even Goofy interact more with Scrooge than Donald! The same thing happens in House of Genius (with Ludwig) AND Music Day (with His nephews). Mickey should've let Donald handle it! Stupid glory hogging mouse!
@ThePaganSun I think it's because over the many years Scrooge and the boys been around, Mickey has never truly interacted with them only Donald. Same goes for Ludwig.
@DisneyLoveQ LOL! True, but then that just proves my point that Mickey's a glory hog. They could still have Mickey interact with them, but give Donald some say, too.
@mattbadboy Yeah, I know. I hope they get someone who does as good a job as he does... especially the Scottish accent. I also think it's cool that Scrooge has lived in America for so long but hasn't lost his accent.
@mattbadboy Alan Young is still alive and the voice of Scrooge, even though he'll be 91 this Friday. His most recent work as Scrooge, I think, is in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. You can find the English cutscenes here on YT.
Considering I played Hermia in our school's version of A Midsummer Nights Dream... this made me laugh so hard. To think... Minnie and I played the same character and I plan on being Minnie one day in the theme parks!
@sillyrogue12: Ummm...NO. Mickey and Minnie were created AT THE SAME TIME by Walt Disney, with input from his wife, Lillian Banks. In fact, the mice are the alter-egos of their creators, since both the creators and their created mice both separate their public lives with their private ones (as per a 1933 interview where Walt himself said the two are secretly married and the fact that Sleeping Beauty/Cinderella Castle was ACTUALLY the Disney Family Suite "once upon a time"),
@sillyrogue12: Hate to burst bubbles, but is your family a part of the Disney family? Nope. So, suffice it to say, your family was misinformed and never read any of the Disney biographies to boot, it seems.
@sillyrogue1: But it's okay. You're never too old to learn. Plus, there's no reason to apologize for being told misinformation if your loved ones were themselves misinformed.
Donald's father and Scrooge's brother-in-law, Quackmore, was once Scrooge's chief accountant (like Fenton Crackshell from Ducktales) and a possible heir to his vast financial empire. A particularly nasty argument resulted in a falling out between the two that never healed.
@365rl: And Walt Elias & Lillian Banks (the DISNEYs) of course, since THEY created the mice, who are BASED OFF OF themselves. As Jim McDonald--second Mickey--told Wayne Allwine--third Mickey--"Remember, you're just filling in for the boss".
Plus, now that I think about it, Scrooge's outfit in this episode is redish, like in the comics. In DuckTales, Scrooge wore blue. Another clue that they were going for vintage skinflint Scrooge over the more benevolent version. Not sure the old-school humor was successfully done, though.
Like zeeviz said, Scrooge could be kinda harsh in his original comics. He cared about his family enough that he would rescue them if they were in danger (usually thanks to his treasure hunting), but he was never very generous either. When Donald was short on cash, he always dreaded asking Uncle Scrooge for work, because he knew the tightwad would work him to death. That said, I too rather miss his more congenial DuckTales attitude in his more recent appearances.
If you observe, each Disney character represents a specific aspect of life. For example, Scrooge McDuck represents money and the business world as the head of McDuck Enterprises. Ludwig von Drake represents knowledge and science as a university professor and lecturer.
@Gamewhiz321 Scrooge is donald's Uncle by blood. Von Drake married Scrooge's sister making him an uncle by marriage. Von Drake is German and Scrooge's family comes from Scotland.
Am I the only one who finds it upsetting that Scrooge fired his own grandnephews?! I mean, that's a rather nasty way to repay the kids who helped him search for all those treasures back in the comics and "DuckTales". And they were the ones he picked as the heirs to his fortune, too! Something terrible must have happened between 1994 and 2001 if it made Scrooge so sour that he doesn't even love "the wee lads" anymore.
Well, his first appearances were little bit hars too. So maybe Scrooge has gone back in the very old days. There where money matters more than others. Its fun to see Scrooge like that, in my opinion. But maybe they continue ducktales someday, or maybe Scrooge just gets his ducktales personality back again.
@FroggoFan64 Yeah, this show wasn't always very good at keep everyone in character. They once made Chernabog, the Devil himself, publicly say to Clarabelle "I..I'm afraid of the dark! There, I said it!"
@FroggoFan64 Actually, personalities in the "House of Mouse" are based on the traditional Disney comics. If this is so, the events of Ducktales never happened in the timeline of "House of Mouse". Don't forget that media entertainment is subject to many changes over the decades.
@rcldragon Is that why Chip 'n Dale never brought Gadget and/or Monterey Jack to see the show with them, or why Baloo never came in his pilot outfit? For that matter, is that also why we never saw ANYONE from other Disney TV cartoons at the House?
@FroggoFan651 That's correct. Continuity is also not an important issue in "House of Mouse". For example, Iago alternately appears as both a hero and a villain when it suits the needs of the plot. Ariel also appears as both a mermaid and a human at different times. The idea of this show is to create entertaining crossovers in addition to re-runs of more recent cartoons. Most of the attention is given to Mickey and his friends due to their "first-among-equals" status in all Disney animation.
@rcldragon definately. Scrooge was REALLY nasty when he first appeared in the comics. Why, he was nasty to Donald for the sake of it for a while. I remember reading there was to be a series of Scrooge cartoons in the 50's that were never made, but they simplified him into a very greedy character, seems like that's what they're doing here.
Scrooge's characterization varies by writer. He was pretty nasty, if not downright antagonistic, in his early appearances, as well as in some of the comics by lesser known authors. He got a little nicer in the mid-late fifties; still a penny pinching miser, but now at least had a code of morals when it came to business family.
@FroggoFan64 Well the "Ducktales" cartoon made Scrooge McDuck more "soft around the edges" than that in the original Carl Barks comics. Not that he was heartless or mean in the comics, but a less "soft" than in that cartoon.
Anyhow, man House of Mouse was a good cartoon, too bad Mickey's next project would be the awful "Dora ripoff" known as "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse."
if anything, Flintheard Glomgold is even worse than Scrooge! glad Scrooge did get soft in ducktales... and this episode isn't even canon otherwise it would explain why Ariel is either human or mermaid.
@TechnoHajikelist Too true, too true. The House of Mouse isn't meant to be in "canon" with other Disney cartoons or comics, it's just a series of enjoyable cartoons, which it indeed was.
@FroggoFan64 I'm sure it's nothing personal Froggo, ol' Scroogy's just cutting corners to save money. Plus, after they left at the end of DuckTales, along with Mrs. Beakley & Webbigale, things went back to normal for Scrooge and he fell back into his covetous miserie ways.
Scrooge McDuck is one miserable, obnoxious, tight fisted bastard! >:(

I love Scrooge McDuck! I am Greek and in Europe, Svrooge is one of the best characters! But he isn't bad! He is depicted completely wrong here!

@FroggoFan64

FroggoFan651 1 year ago 2

@rcldragon

@FroggoFan64 In the comics scrooge is exacly like this! And i love it!!!!!
But i agree with you about firing his grandnephews.
charmy97 1 year ago
@FroggoFan64 Well the "Ducktales" cartoon made Scrooge McDuck more "soft around the edges" than that in the original Carl Barks comics. Not that he was heartless or mean in the comics, but a less "soft" than in that cartoon.
Anyhow, man House of Mouse was a good cartoon, too bad Mickey's next project would be the awful "Dora ripoff" known as "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse."
Musiclover19 1 year ago 3
@Musiclover19
if anything, Flintheard Glomgold is even worse than Scrooge! glad Scrooge did get soft in ducktales... and this episode isn't even canon otherwise it would explain why Ariel is either human or mermaid.
TechnoHajikelist 1 year ago
@TechnoHajikelist Too true, too true. The House of Mouse isn't meant to be in "canon" with other Disney cartoons or comics, it's just a series of enjoyable cartoons, which it indeed was.

@FroggoFan64 I'm sure it's nothing personal Froggo, ol' Scroogy's just cutting corners to save money. Plus, after they left at the end of DuckTales, along with Mrs. Beakley & Webbigale, things went back to normal for Scrooge and he fell back into his covetous miserie ways.
UltimateThanos 1 year ago
@UltimateThanos They left? Even Webby and Mrs. Beakley? I recently finished watching the whole series and I don't remember them leaving...
