this man deserves a home he risked his life to save his pet most men would have been like screw it but not him hes truly a hero and for the guy that threw the rabbit someone needs to throw your ass in the damn river dont treat someones pet like that what kind of person are you. I love rabbits and this made me cry so much when i saw it. i would have definately done the same thing he did cuz i dont think i could live with myself or 4give myself if i didnt succeed in saving the poor helpless animal
thats is the most touching thing ever i hope the man and the rabbit have great homes now and are on there way to life time happiness like me my friends family and my bunny :,)
From Nov 09 to March 2010, out of 19 council houses, allocated by Tralee council 11 went to immigrants. Many Irish people are on the housing waiting list, some waiting for 7yrs, and the houses are going to foreigners.

This at a time when Irish children in care are being moved around in different care homes and B&B's. Some of these kids have been abused and committed suicide - they would greatly benefit from a secure council house.
I don't care about what people says down/up here..talking about futile things not inherent at this singular event. I will say about this event, that my soul is not been shaken for the sad music background..but indeed for the valorous action accomplished by this man. Who can understand it will send you all the tears respect and unimaginable honour as you deserve John. And to the others useless guilty numbers..fuck you.
it always trips me out that so many people get all teary eyed watching this video who would have no problem buying a slain rabbit from the store and eating him or her. Think about it people, those rabbits, chickens, pigs, cows etc all deserve to live just as much as this bunny does.
I agree it's a sweet story, but it makes me sad that we can't all extend our compassion to all animals.
@Mikeypod Totally with you... Drowning rabbit in a river = tragic. Suffocating millions of rabbits in labs for the sake of a new shampoo & no one sheds a tear. Thank you for speaking on behalf of the chickens, cows, pigs, lions, bears, horses and wolves and all beings who's much rather live than be killed by us. Yes. Compassion to ALL animals... (and bunnies).
Hope they throw the sorry excuses for human beings who did this to his fur friend in JAIL ! My heart breaks for both, and am just glad they are ok and the story has been exposed. Wish I could give them both a hug !
Someone should employ him to work with animals in an animal shelter he is obviously devoted to animals but then again the homeless often like the way of life on the streets and the thought of a day to day job and a house is not what they want. I just hope he gets want he wants for the future what ever that is. Is that he's usual spot or does he move around?

I used to have to pass this guy about 4 times a day outside St Stephens green- I think its disgusting that he uses a rabbit and a dog to gain sympathy when the people who get that "spot" infront of the phone box are violent to get it from one another. And the fact that he turns down an offer of work and a roof over his head from a farmer (see todays IrishTimes) shows exactly what he begs for- a wife and three kids in Ballyfermot/methadone. We care more about rabbits than people in this city!
@OrphanAndy could be worse see that romanian woman with a BABY BOY on talbot street every morning on the bus...i dont belive he is using his pets to gain sympathy
What a wonderful guy,I hope the scum bags, get thrown in the river, weighed down, don't need scum on this earth..I live in Italy, will gladly give him and his rabbit a holiday, here in the countryside...if you pas the message...Sheila
This man showed love, loyalty & respect for his friend, a true gentleman.
I am so happy he saved his friend & life is looking up for him. Never judge someone by the clothes they wear or the life they live, it is their actions that prove who they are, & this man proved he is both honorable & decent. Well done to him. :)
I spoke to this poor guy on Friday on the bridge and he told me when he jumped into to save his rabbit the scumbags responsible threw bottles in at him while he was struggling in the water. There are some real assholes going round Dublin City at the moment and anyone who could do this to an innoncent animal not to mention a poor guy who has nothing deserves to be locked up

From RTÉ News today:
A homeless man is to be honoured today for rescuing his pet rabbit from the River Liffey in Dublin.
An 18-year-old man has been charged with a public order offence, as well as animal cruelty, in relation to the incident.
Mr Byrne will given an award for his actions by the Animal Rights Action Network this afternoon.
