I'm using a D90 for an year now... This oldy still ROCKS... Its always true that the more latest product u buy from a Co. like Nikon, there will always be something new & Advanced tech used in it... So comparing D90 & D7000 isin't fair... As a matter of fact, how many people know & regularly use all the features available in their camera... very few I guess... so take a wise & informed decision... Then u can spend the money saved on new lenses... Happy clicking...

I got the D90 for about a year now and really like it. As a beginner with (D)SLR the camera is very user friendly and easy to learn with. Besides the stock 18-105mm lens I bought the Nikkor 70-300mm. Now I want to up it a bit with a more light sensetive lens. What would you recommend. My main objects are action sports and portraits.

Nikons 50mm f/1.8D is the cheapest low light lens you can get for your D90, goes about 100 or so dollars. At most, 140 dollars new.

d90 has got better picture quality than d5000 but also more accesable buttons and features on the camera body. it is just a step up.

I just upgrade from d3000 to d90.. And 2 of my friends using d5000 that starts photography earlier than told me that d90 is almost same as d5000.. I mean.. Serious?

@kaiwoon: Is not the same, With the D90 you can use any AF Nikon lens. With a D5000 you only can get auto-focus with AF-S lenses. Top LCD and two dial wheels are other good reasons for get a D90 instead a D5000.

I also love my D90! It's an awesome camera! Nice large HIGH RESOLUTION LCD! Leaves the newer, cheaper models (which they are marketing the the full extent) for dead. Every photo I have taken has been exposed perfectly. None of the problems I had with my D5000 are apparent with the marvelous D90. Best camera I have ever had and I chose the D90 over the newer...and expensive D7000!! The D7000 is a nice camera, but the reviews gave the D90 a higher score!

Bought the D90 and just love it. I am a regular contributor to a fishing magazine and never have any trouble with the image quality for cover shots of angling or macro shots of insects, fishing flies, etc.

Am thinking of upgrading to the D7000.

@MrTruthhurts777 The D7000 would only be better for the video as it will focus full time during videos. However, I beleive the D90 has a better reputation for higher quality, better exposed photos. I read in reviews that the D7000 has a tendency to overexpose! Like the D5000 (which I owned and sold) had a slight tendency to underexpose. These things are VERY annoying, especially wheh you are paying big bucks. Stick to the D90 and buy the D95 when it is released! Much better option I think.

@ekim536 The D7000 video quality is far better than D90. Reason: Better compression codecs, thanks to Expeed2 processors. This video quality is impossible with D90 hardware.

@luzmotiv Agreed. I have both the D90 and D7000. I love both, but I find the D7000 a lot more responsive. Faster AF system, more versatile with 39 AF points (9 cross type), 1080p, solid build. The battery lasts A LONG TIME. I honestly think that the D7000's low light performance is great for a DX/APS-C camera - and this is something important in a camera that will allow you to use it for a very long time without worrying about limitations.
