I saw Gary on Austin's 6th Street in 2002 and at Austin City Limits that year. I knew he had raw talent, he's going places. It ain't easy to make it big in the Blues, but if anyone can in today's culture, he can. Great performance by the band, too.
Wow - now that is what I call the blues -:) ! It's all just learned stuff our friend below says - yes of course it is - for everyone, because there is not a musician who has not been inspired first, by someone else ! !
OK, OK, he's very good! But, he is not the "best" around as some have said. What made someone like SRV great was they sounded like themselves as much or more than they did others. I do wish the best for Gary and hope he has a great life but the Blues needs to progress to survive. Playing with soul is one thing but playing with soul and original licks is what makes "great"! I hope Gary will realize this and help save what we have.
Son, when you've been around the block as far as I've been you know that he's got the talent. What he does with is his birthright. He's yet a young michael jordan, before he signed with the bulls.
To start making him wear mantels, real or imagined, is a trifle like making a boy fight the wars of his fathers. Boorish and uncreative on the critic who suggested it to him.
Let him find his voice and he'll spring forth like a nightingale.
Good but it is still just copy blues. It will be nice when we can get back to more original sounding music. Not that this kid is not good, he is, but it's all just learned stuff. Some more original licks would be nice.
Gary, you've come so far since you and Eve & your dad used to hang at Joe's. Congratulations man on your success. The hard work and natural talent is paying off bigtime! You're the shit dude. We're lovin' it. Sam
I saw Gary at Antones in Austin this past Sat night. FANTASTIC! Close your eyes and it was Stevie Ray Vaughan... then Muddy Waters.... and so on.. He will become one of the big blues players.
So young and so good !!! And in so many different styles and things . Great talent, wish him very bright future :)

Wow... Phenomenal.
The opinions of the nay-sayers under this video read a bit like comedy, but the kind no one can be arsed to laugh at.
