I stumbled onto this vid late at night when I was sick of the garbage on t.v. and decided to surf youtube for "old drag racing videos". Somehow, I ended up in here. I'm 57, and remember as a kid that just got his driver's license in Tucson reading about "THE WRECK-THE FOOT" in one of the zillions of drag race mags I would buy. God Bless you and your bride, Don....for sharing this story. I have no doubt that the Lord will make sure the kid(s) who need to hear this the most click this video on.

It is written to call on the LORD with all of your heart, and you will be saved. That's exactly what happened to Don. He called out "with the faith of a child", and in doing this, God kept this glorious promise that is made for everyone who does the same . God will never let anyone live through anymore than they can bear. We have a loving, merciful, awesome God.

Garlts visited my grandfatther on a regular basis in oyster creek texas.My grandfather (Bob Dodds) loaned garlits a set of sparkplug wires (went out in the parking lot and tookem of his daily driven chrysler) at an event so garlits could make a pass. Don't ask why he needed them lol. That i do not know. But pretty cool if you ask me. garlits was (is) the man!!

People doubt God being real and personal but Don's experience is just one in a million as to what having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ Gods son every day and allowing him to dwell inside and guide your life every day in every thing a person says and does. How about giving God a chance and invite him into your life as your personal savior.

After 9/11 I started studying Islam (40+ books and lots of listening) to learn what that is about. To make a long story short, I ended up discovering there is nothing in the Bible that has proven to be inaccurate, and written history and archeological digs keep proving accuracy of Bible. Also everything in Bible has been and continues to be accurate about Israel and the Jewish people.

tdady99 i was at lions that day 3/8/70 and i know what a changing day it was. my name is tim ditt and i was 17 when my left arm was almost blown off don and i were in icu together(not long). i once saw a tape on the "sports machine" that showed the explosion. i was in the pit side stands and the tape was shot from dons side of the track. i'd like that tape. little help? also the man who kept me from bleeding out is due thanks .THANK YOU,VERY MUCH.

By personally knowing Don, I know that he isn't the most perfect person in the world and at times it really doesn't seem like he is all that great of a guy. But through how I have seen him support my family when we struggled and how he always fought beside us, I know that he is not only a great drag racer but also a great man. Don Garlits is definitely my real life hero.

Recently, the pastor of my church did a series of sermons on heroes, in the Bible and today. As I sat there in the pew with my wife and daughter, listening to him talking about his heroes growing up, the first name that came to my mind as a hero was Don Garlits. I'm glad to say that I chose my heroes well. I saw Don race so many times and he never failed to disappoint me. Honestly, there really isn't anyone else who is deserving to bear the title of Greatest Drag Racer of All Time.
