I was around when the Beach Boys were rolling out all of those hit songs in the 1960's and this version is the original version. The version with the cheerleaders is an alternate version that frankly, I had never heard before.

this one is sorely lacking the cheerleaders' voices from tghe orignal 45....weren't THOSE female voices girlfriends or friends of the band?...I think so.

I'm not sure where it originates, but this version was on a '70s-era Beach Boys collection (available only on TV) called Summer Fun, and it was all I knew when I was little. When I later heard the cheerleader version, I had the same reaction: "What's this?"
