  • @vivienleigh1097 , you are a very ignorant person

  • lucky horses. Looks like they have a great life. Sure are helathy looking. Is the perhaps the route from stables to work in the park? I notice no fares. A bad bit of traffic that day? Are you telling us that they work those streets pictured here?

  • That is normal NYC traffic and these poor horses commute on those streets.

  • Every day. It's dangerous for a car, imagine a carriage with no lights turn signals or mirrors.

We have a corrupt mayor who thinks he's the king and he doesn't mind this abuse because there's money involved

  • This reminds me of the book Black Beauty. When Black Beauty and Ginger were practicly worked to death by carriages.

  • there is no justification this is an animal cruelty. we can stop this by coming to gether against ny city gov

  • those poor, beautiful horses. to bad their legs and feet are being destroyed from working on the streets.

  • This is so foolish. Those horses are so out of place there. Join the age of technology folks.

  • XD These people are SO entertaining! I have work I need to be doing but, DAMN this is funny! I love how some people think they know everything! and if they don't know what they are talking about the just make it up! XD

This is about animal suffering, not environmentally friendly lifestyles. That is a completely different subject.

  • They tried to make any excuses to justify the cruelty and public safety risk.

  • Umm, you seem to be a crazy fanatic, sir, whenn you die your body will also turn to compost. I'm not gonna waste my time arguing with you.

  • How will it be wonderful fo the planet? No one is a true environmentalist. Your house/apartment/whatever was bult on animal habitat, the fields where you get your crops from were animal habitat, the bike you ride was built from metal mined in a mine that took up animal habitiat, stop being so hypocritical.

  • I am a "human monkey?" Well, the can I call a Pencil a "pencil crayon?" And you are wishing me death and yet call me evil for giving myself nutrients from animals lower than me in the food chain!?

  • @frontal traction, go away, you made it clear that you support animal cruelty.

  • Does calling me "monkey boy" make you feel better about yourself, sir?

  • @frontaltraction, a carriage ride may be fun for you since you are quite perverse and enjoy the exploitation and suffering of others. all your postings have reflected how dark you are. Karma is a good thing.

  • Of course my life will end, doesn't everyone die at some point?

  • Sir, what do you mean by "my day is comming? Oh, do you mean the day when I become CEO of KFC or some meat packaging company or somthing like that. Beef tastes good, by the way.

  • Whoa whoa whoa, you are making me stressed out man, I think I'm gonna eat a nice juicy steak to calm down.

  • If you hate the human race, why don't you kill yourself? Just want to know. :D

  • Calm down, man, no need to get profane! I think ima go ride a cairrage in nyc when I go on on vacation. I have a right to do it and you can't stop me.

  • Hey, maybe I should have a cairrage ride in NYC another time! Thanks for showing how fun it could be!

  • peopleasylum, you are an idiot, you just said that you should f*ck yourself, dumbass, lmao.

  • I see your point. I didn't mean to sound so callous, I just don't know that much about horses.

It would be a shame to see the loss of rich cultural tradition such as horse carriages in Central Park, but of course that is no excuse if the animals are suffering.

Maybe some compromise could be reached in the future, such as horse-carriage-only lanes, strict regulation of stable conditions, and limits on the number of hours the horses can work/distance they may travel in given day/week.

  • thanks, and yes the ASPCA put out a press release last year that stated after years of working with legislation and this industry to no avail, they call for a ban since this industry can't operate humanely in NYC and can't be effectively monitored. They are not against horses working but NYC is an inhumane environment and it poses a danger to all. have you seen the movie blinders? it address a lot of questions as to why the regulations fails and the lack of oversight. peace.

  • I feel like you do. I've been here 50 years and the carriages are a part of NYC tradition. But I will not stand silently by while the horses suffer.

And the owners don't want to compromise, or obey the rules apparently.

They feel they have the right to whip and mistreat the horses as if they were machines, while driving wildly in the traffic

Be sad to see them go but the owners did it to themselves

  • I don't see what's so cruel... horses have been pulling carriages in New York City for hundreds of years.

  • I thought that there are horse stables in the middle of central park---just as there is a zoo in central park...? (i'm not from nyc...i'm surprised that these horses shown here didn't get spooked by all of the commotion around them.)

  • a common misconception. No the horses are not kept in central park and to permit these horses to work in such a harsh dangerous environment is CRUEL. thanks and peace.

  • They do get spooked, part of the problem

  • This isnt so bad.. Yes they shouldnt be on the road , the toxic and they horse can be injured.. but I've been to places where this is extremely common and they have made roads for them to go on, it isnt half as packed with cars as that tho... this shouldnt be banned. completely. It should be banned in this type of state, but in a countryside or something, Its not bad at all

  • I agree! that makes the most sense.

  • STOP trotting your horses! Not good on hard pavement! Idiots!

  • that's horrible. all that bad air ugh

  • Those poor animals must be terrified with all that traffic noise and closure.

Big cities are no place for a horse and carriage.

Maybe on a nice, quiet country side or something.

    That makes me angry.

  • Good video. Ban NYC horse carriages now!

  • Is that the way the carriages go to work? That's some pretty heavy traffic. Do all the horses trot to get to work? How far is their commute from the stables to the hack line?
