@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Gotta disagree with you on that one, true artists live and breathe their art, which she certainly does and is one of the lucky ones who can actually make a living doing what she loves. She covered Michael Hedges, "Ritual Dance", I've always been under the impression that musicians who cover songs do so to pay homage to influential people in their lives and to show respect for songs that have touched them in some way.
@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA On a personal note, I discovered Michael Hedges by listening to Kaki King; and while watching Michael Hedges' videos on youtube, I learned of John Butler. I enjoy listening to all of them, and it's pointless to get bogged down in an irrelevant debate over who is better because art, if anything is subjective and appreciation varies based on one's own personal experiences and preferences. If you have any suggestions for other musicians, let me know.
I'm probably alone in my opinion per King, fabulous player, just a tad redundant for me,yet a good gauge for me to not sound to repetitious.Butler is also awesome. And i never said anyone was better than any other,i just think the evil media just places people like chess pieces, deserving or not.
Check out Erik Mongrain, Doug Smith...if you want to get blown away check this out: 4wc49r - John mclaughlin and Paco de Lucia - Spain (live), or watch?v=9cadbYIzhqQ (wow!)
@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Appreciate it, the John Mclaughlin and Paco de Lucia was freakin sick. Reminded me of Alex Fox, I saw him playing outside of a restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale and that dude wails, but I don't think he's quite as fast as those guys. I uploaded a video, Alex Fox La Catedral, from his cd but I think it's only been seen by like 20 people. Check out aleksei arkhipovsky balaika amok. He's playing a balaika, a Russian string instrument smaller than a guitar, but bigger than a ukelele
@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Yeah dude, it's so different how everyone is just sitting there and internalizing everything instead of jumping around and yelling like dumbasses, Aleksei is a beast.
@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA completely random person named, Morten Faerestrand, sent a friend request and he's fucking insane. I think he's Norwegian, he does a lot of jazzy minor chords. a lot of his uploads deal with teaching technique and what not but he definitely jams.
@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Check out Canon rock johnny cerisano, he's 14 in the video and already jams harder than most of the crap on the radio. Definitely someone to watch, a legend in the making.

@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Overwhelming awesomeness and then Buckethead and Claypool to finish it off. I'd never even heard of Blind Illusion, and I love Primus. Saw 'em at Red Rocks back in August and it was amazing. Thanks for all the new subscriptions and favorites.
Not problemo, Les Claypool is a god to me, i've seen Primus and his solo projects numerous times, though i did miss when he toured Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains(check those vids out). And if you like Les, you have to see the Electric Apricot, The Quest for Festeroo(hilarious flik, my wife liked it, that's saying alot, lol)
@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Haven't seen Bernie Brains or the Frog brigade live, but I have some of their cd's. So pissed I missed Primus last year with Gogol Bordello and the Freak Show. I saw Primus at a little venue in Atlanta mid 2000's and it was the best concert I've ever seen; no opening band, just an 1 1/2 hours of bassy goodness, 15 minute intermission, then all of Sailing the Seas of Cheese. Even had Herb banging on the drums.
I missed Bernie Brains, missed his Fancy band, and also missed the Bordello show, a friend(still mad at him) went, and told me about it a few days after it was over. Being from the SF bay area, i've seen Primus live countless times since their earliest days, met Les(would love to go fishing with him, lol). seriously, check out the Electric Apricot, hilarious...i think you'll dig it.
@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Well then i will definitely have to check em out, I dig anything funky ass bass lines combined with shredding; maybe throw in a cello, organs, saxophone or violin for the sake of anti-monotony. Before the Butler kick I've been on for the past few months, was really into Morphine and will always have love for the Mars Volta, "Deloused in the Comatorium" is one of my favorite albums of all time. In other news, gonna listen to pSmA4mK-UHM then on my way to Electric Apricot.
@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA you do realize that we've dominated over 2 pages on this thread. The funny thing is that you don't even particularly care for the song, and have to hear it over and over whenever you respond. lol
@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Been listening to more of Guthrie Govan and Bill Burke, so badass. Working my way through all the artists you recommended, had a shitty day at work yesterday and fucking around on youtube really helped get my mind off shit.
Govan is a freak,& i met Burke, touched his tool(the Warr guitar).I play an 8 string as well,i love tapping, unique stuff. i may put some vids up on youtube, but prob wouldn't want to hear a jackass like myself criticize it, lol. Anywho, it sounds like you have a very broad taste in music,go to reverbnation, search Locorogue, song is Sad Bastard,it got picked up by a hollywood studio,it's dark, kinda drawn out(slow rise & fall),but it was used for a suicide scene, what the heck
@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Well in your defense the more times I hear this version of this song the more mistakes I hear and that one guy playing on the streets of London was fucking crazy. You should really post some shit, I know I'd like to hear it. There's always gonna be people complaining, that's just life. Even in all of those Guthrie videos, there were people bitching: he's too fast, all he does is play scales . . . Wouldn't sweat it too much.

@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA I like it, I can see why they'd choose it for a suicide scene, it definitely has a certain melancholy feel, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I don't play anything personally, but I do write poems, and most are on the darker side. This wouldn't happen to be you, would it?
I actually appreciate most arts, poetry is one, darker the better(more cerebral). My musical taste/appreciation is vast,i like it all. If you like ambient/rock check out the band Hammock(song Sora, then check out all their other stuff). I think an ambient/"post rock" style may be what i want to focus on,Sigur Ros, God is an astronaut, lights out asia, godspeed you black emperor, MOGWAI...etc
@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Yeah dude, I used to hook my mp3 player up at work (until the boss' son rated me out) and I had everything on it from Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin to NWA and Pantera. If you wanna pm me your e-mail, I'll send ya some of the stuff I've written.
@treeradioproductions I'll check it out. How weird do you like your music? I've been listening to this band, Diablo Swing Orchestra, and I fucking love them. It's got a Claypool, Mr.Bungle, swing, funk, metal, classical feel.

@ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Wow. theres been a lot of comments since last time. All I have to say is that this conversation was started with you acting towards Andy Mckee the same way you seem to claim I'm acting. No offense at all.
@Reeceoo7 You must be one of those people that hates technology. If you are, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. But, as the artist, Kaki decided she liked the song with the included effects. And, may I say, I find the effects phenominal.
Caught this live at Southbound in WA earlier this year and was absolutely dumbfounded. My jaw literally dropped; I couldn't keep my eyes off her. Such an amazing talent. So very glad I managed to stumble upon her set. Bravo!
lol ive never seen this performed live until now, when i heard this song on the album i thought it was like 2 guitars or with like a looping but daaaammn i was wrong,
I saw this wonderful womans first performance ever on a national level on the conan o'brian show. since then I've followed her music and tothis day the only person that can even hold a candle to her is dominic frasca
i saw her live myself when i saw the foo fighters in brisbane australia and god damn... her and this dude made up a song as they went on and it rocked! it was totaly imporvised! guitar godess!
I saw her live too, way back in sydney where she did an opening for tegan and sara december last year. I was in total AWE!! And Guitar Godess is the word!! Just amazing!
@drazhar2000 Yeah dude, I heard her for the first time on Conan O'brien and was blown away. Then i heard some random track off a Foo Fighter's album that was amazing and come to find out it was Kaki.
great stuff, kakki! 1st time i saw this was preston reed with an Adamas guitar also. i'm a looping artist that plays guitars, bass, drums, keys, etc, on stage and it's so much to juggle. looks like you're juggling a lot on your fret board!
but i think this one is the same but she painted it or something, because a few years ago she had one with blue jeans color in the middle and faded to the outside..
The one youre talking about is her dads old adamas he gave to her as a more serious guitar.
They're all the same (The blue and black one)
She got another black one but, its a thinner one. They're all custom made, except for the body. She just gets the looks customized and cleaner soundholes :)
Damn GIrl!

I saw this wonderful womans first performance ever on a national level on the conan o'brian show. since then I've followed her music and tothis day the only person that can even hold a candle to her is dominic frasca

i saw her live myself when i saw the foo fighters in brisbane australia and god damn... her and this dude made up a song as they went on and it rocked! it was totaly imporvised! guitar godess!
drazhar2000 3 years ago 8
I saw her live too, way back in sydney where she did an opening for tegan and sara december last year. I was in total AWE!! And Guitar Godess is the word!! Just amazing!
squissymussy87 3 years ago 2
@drazhar2000 Yeah dude, I heard her for the first time on Conan O'brien and was blown away. Then i heard some random track off a Foo Fighter's album that was amazing and come to find out it was Kaki.
danielhayes5446 6 months ago
great stuff, kakki! 1st time i saw this was preston reed with an Adamas guitar also. i'm a looping artist that plays guitars, bass, drums, keys, etc, on stage and it's so much to juggle. looks like you're juggling a lot on your fret board!
davidbrucemusicvideo 3 years ago
that is so hard to do.. i mean years of practice. its so amazing, i would be stuned if i saw her in person playing

whatever happened to the blue adamas? i never really liked it but i wonder what happened to it? is the black one just a better guitar (i think so)?
thenerocomplex 3 years ago
i do like the blue one!
but i think this one is the same but she painted it or something, because a few years ago she had one with blue jeans color in the middle and faded to the outside..
jdlm9 3 years ago
No. She has four.
The one youre talking about is her dads old adamas he gave to her as a more serious guitar.
They're all the same (The blue and black one)
She got another black one but, its a thinner one. They're all custom made, except for the body. She just gets the looks customized and cleaner soundholes :)
DogEater316 3 years ago
yeah i tought so, i actually found one of her dad's adamas lovers websites once...
jdlm9 3 years ago
Oops..she has five.
its just a stock though.
DogEater316 3 years ago
i Would love to have just one xD
jdlm9 3 years ago
Oh. And I forgot her Ovation 1778t she uses in the wiltern show..
