I have this ARCHOS 5, and I don't like the battery life! Sometimes it reboot by itself, Good for viewing photos but doesn't have that multi touch zooming like ipod touch,. Audio and video quality is good 3 out of 5. wifi connection so slow! 2 out of 5, download speed is ok though. touch screen response 3 out of 5 you need stylous to click on tiny link.

don't get it. i bought in last year. archos doesn't give any customer support and if freezes after awhile. after awhile it gets outdated and they don't have new updates for it. i have been trying to contact archos for customer support or repairs and they said they don't help with this product. i've emailed them time and time again and they just keep sending the same email back basically saying they can't help. i'm trying to sell mine.

Looks nice but the idea of a DVR is kind of pointless. DVRs are used to record video while you're gone. A portable media player is meant to allow you to listen to your music/watch videos while out, so the two are kind of contradicting. I can either take my media player with me like it was meant to be used and miss my television shows or I can leave my media player at home to use as a DVR and it completely defeats the point of being a PORTABLE media player, because it's not with me.

(ie. better video chipset and possibly a li-ion battery to give it the power)... and get the real quality out of the hd video formats (mkv, m2ts... etc)

I have this and though it's good for storage which is why I got it, it doesn't work very well. Firstly I opened it and it had green pixel on screen (very annoying), Internet doesn't work, it heats up a lot when you use it. It's not something you'd bring with you and also they have no place to buy movies or music. Though they may look good, they are not worth the money:(

but the ipad is way better than anything archos makes. I had the archos 605 and it was very clunky both physically and performance wise, the touch screen was a slow resistive screen with alot of give, it broke down, you had to pay to "unlock" features built in, and the audio is def sub par

My archos broke down within a year. Touch screen isn't responding anymore.

Called the help desk 24 times now, send 8 e-mails, but still i've got a broken device. Oh, and i've send it to the repair station twice. They didn't detect any faults!

So mine was a total waste of money!

i have an archos7 and love it, however it should note that it only supports flash 9 LITE!!! which means most flash 9 vids on the net including youtube wont play. Hopefully a f/ware update will sort this. Browsing is great on the 7, does reboot occasionally PUT THAT down to my impatience:) the thing with the plugins plays VOB files ie direct video files drag and drop which is a huge plus video looks awesome, sound is awesome, the battery seems to last forever. And the web radio and tv is endless

Yes most sites use Flash 10 which is backwards compatible for Flash 9... Very few flash apps won't work with the Archos 5 and when they don't it's because of the size not Flash itself... Not to mention the Archos is now able to be developed for freely so it won't be long before someone hacks Flash 10 on this through Linux...
