@ericatomic934 maintenance was the reason they retired, just a lame excuse to put money on boing, becuse if f-14 was a nightmare at maintenance so is the f-22 and the 35 will be no diferent, i even think that the f-22 and f-35 or wrost them a f-14 at maintenance, and the f-35 is just a nother bomber that cant do any thing them just bomb, whit a sort legs i may add
I was fortunate enough to see the Tomcat in 2003. I can honestly say it was the most unprecidented thing I have ever witnessed and probably ever will witness. The F-14 Demo is in a class of it's own. It's just too bad they retired the aircraft. LONG LIVE THE TOMCAT!!
I'm all for stealth, but there are many operational questions must be answers before deploying the F-35. How will RCS be affected by years of salt water corrosion? Is a single engined aircraft still reliable enough? How well does it maneuver? ETC. I don't care what Lockheed says. For my tax dollars I want the Navy to do independent testing. Like it used to do before it decided to go to bed with the corporations. This is amounting to another Nam era "tech will win in the end" blunder.
@biped19 the f-35 is the f-4 of the morden world it as no internal gun and to go any where need 2 or 3 extarnal fuel tanks like the f-18 super hornet, why the us never learn from their mistakes?
As for why they do not learn, I think it is probably because there is a new generation of arrogant bureaucrats & generals that did not learn from history, and do not care. Most are corrupt, propping up the military industrial complex with corporate tax welfare, while placing all of their faith in the miracle of BVR technology. Mr. Sprey also points out the striking similarities between the F-105 and F-35.
@biped19 i saw the documentry not sure if it was norway, i just cant belive on the amount of stupidity in the congress this days, star wars is still fiction
Final? That's really dum to retire it. The plane still maneuvers great it climb faster than most planes and just because we make this F-35 they retire it????
Who ever says that the Tomcat is obsolete, slow and not agile know less than nothing. The F-14 finally got the engines it was supposed to get. Its design is still ahead of its time. Thanks to the cheney cabal we now have inferior aircraft in our inventory. LOng live the mighty cat.
Wow! its bloody amazing!... I sowant a pilot to make love to me, while we in the air, and him in his uniform of course! mmmmm... what a turn on?!... my very own Maverick!... hehehehe...
fondest memory of VF-101... That big bald guy who helped me toss the old wheels going to AIMD into the truck like they were weightless. LOL Thanks man.
This aircraft will always have a special place in my heart, I was lucky enough as Brit to fly in one. It took everything I threw at it with ease, I felt like crying when I heard it was to be retired.
my mothers father helped develop this plane. his last name is snyder. He died before I was born. it had a good life of 36 years which i think is the longest in us aviation history. if im wrong correct me
um the B-52 still counting.... maybe the F-4 phantom 36years, E-2 hawkey, C-130, C-5, U-2,shall i go on. Or did you just mean fighter jets? Either way the
If they'd sell you one, thats not the big issue. Keeping the thing flying would be your big expense. They were averaging about 50hrs of maintainence for every flight hour in their final years. Better round up some buddies who are good with speed-handles!
I was literally starting to tear when i seen this video, this jet has always been my favorite & will always be in my heart

why did they decommission the T-Cat?
pilotman1009 1 year ago
It's so gay that they retired it. It performs slot better then so many other jets.
And it's even more gay if they also retired it from air shows because it's properly the most famous jet fighter of all time!
