I wouldn't be surprised if the sentry is entirely from scratch. The ingame model probably wouldn't be nearly detailed enough for usage in a video, as it's intended from the ground-up to be a game asset. (If you look at it, you can notice plenty of detail that isn't on the original sentry) Plus, their sentry is much more realistic in style, where the ingame one is a lot more stylized to fit the theme of the game.

@NSanityBringer I wouldn't say it would surprise me if CorridorDigital made it from scratch given their skill at 3D; however, I would say its unlikely that they were able to create such an accurate 3D representation of Valve's sentry gun due to the fact that the in-game model is in fact a Valve-created model... and to accurately recreate something so complex down to each detail would be veryy impressive. But, I do agree that the lighting is much more realistic than it would be in the game.

Hey Corridordigital,, did you create the sentry completely in 3ds max? It seems hard to believe that you could replicate the entire sentry by yourselves (even though you are of course amazing VFX peoples :P). Or did you perhaps have a video of a team fortress 2 sentry positioned against a colored wall that you keyed out? if thats how you did it, how did you apply the reflection maps to the parts of the sentry to match the scene?

@Mangaman1100 But 3ds MAX is a professional and advanced program, you won't get anything out of it if you have little to no experience, you need to start low, bender is a great program to start with, it's not as advanced and the results aren't the same as 3ds MAX, but it's easier to use and free.

@uGuardian4 when the film technic of chroma keying was first invented, blue was the original color. they changed it to green because it had a higher contrast to what was on set usually. it all depends on what the actor is wearing and what props they are using. if they are wearing blue, they use green. if they are wearing green, they use blue.
