A little distortion? Does that mean my guitars dont distort at all?! XP Lol good review! Ive heard mixed reviews on this one though. Which would be better as far as quality wise, this or the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top? (btw Ive played both)
@perkalator104 ive had both brands. i have a gibby les paul standard now but i still like my epiphones. but ive had 2 faded sg specials and the quality of the sg will be higher than that of the epiphone les paul standard. in the epi your toggle switch, input jack, volume/tone pots, or your pickups could all fart out unexpectedly. ive had it all happen to me but all my gibsons were rock solid. if i were you i'd get the gibson or find an epiphone elitist guitar. better than gibson
Where do you get the pickup covers from i have a Gibson SG special (not faded) and they are uncovered, from my local music shop? or would that be an online thing?
@XiaNingTian i cant really buy online, because i dont have a credit card, so my best bet would be through my music shop. does it change the sound if u put the pickup covers on?
@andrewceg Alright.... As for the sound, most people can notice a difference, but I can't. I hear reviews say that they're a little hotter without the pickup covers. The guitar will sound the same, but one will bring feedback a little quicker. Hope this has been helpful! Sorry if I wasted your time >_<
@andrewceg If you wanna see if it changes the sound, put a metal ruler between the pickups and the strings and listen, it won't be an exact sound, but you'll get a pretty good idea of how it would sound
Does anyone know if the SG Special Faded will dent and scratch easily? I'm wanting to get this SG, but not if the faded one easily prone to damage from buttons, belt buckles and the occasional bumping into stuff.
With that said, may anyone please help me out? I just want to make a smart purchase.
a friend of mine told me that the faded series are just plain epiphones with the gibson logo stickered onto them, is this true or is it really manufactured from gibson? (sorry for the bad english)
@imsiepimsie --- Sorry to say that your friend really does not know anything about Gibson to make a statement like that. Gibsons are Gibsons, Epiphones are Epiphones. Gibson owns Epiphone and does not put their name on any guitar model that they do not manufacture themselves. Read the Gibson history on the Faded series, it's as real as any Gibson can get. The Faded series is a super bargain for any person wanting to own a real Gibson, and it is fast becoming popular as a quality guitar it is.
@greyhawk357 Yeah thats what i thought ;) but just because he plays guitar for like 3 and a half years he acts like he knows everything :P but i kinda lost interest in this guitar because i was searching for a bit more and i think id rather go with an ibanez dtt700 destroyer
hey how thick is the neck? i know not a ton of people ask that but i like thin necks cuz i find it easy to play. i have a epiphone SG and the neck, i finaly found out, is pretty darn thick.
Dude i had one of these and i was so in love with it, and i ended up having to sell it to fix my car. But i think you talked me into getting another, and thank you so much, id love to see you do a little 2-5-1-6 progression in Gmajor on this axe. i loved those clean tones man,.
@renesebasgg i have a les paul standard and i just bought a faded sg special. its a great guitar but it is cheaper than the faded studio les paul. but the faded les paul comes with way better pickups. if i were you, id get the sg and with the money you save from buying the les paul, put better pickups in it. like maybe gibson 57 classics, you wont be dissapointed
looks like you just bought that thing! i play the hell outta mine, had it two and a half years and the finish on the back is fading a little bit from all the play!
Nice review, one question: is it very expensive to cover the pickups? I'm thinking about getting one of these and of course I prefer covered pickups. Thank you.
@KingOfShadows1500 u can also change the pickups and put emgs on it...the stock pickguard wont fit them but i changed mine to a gray tortoise chell pickguard that would normally fit an sg standard (which fit emgs) and put new pickups on it...but thats a little more expensove than just buying pickup covers...well worth it though...way better sound and great look!!!
I like Zeppelin/AcDc and classic rock. I also like Jazz. Would you say its an all around great guitar to play. Also, what can an SG do that a Les Paul can't?
@retsevlis Hey, take a look at VOLBEAT....the singer uses SG and the other player uses a Les Paul...this might help you decide----the SG seems to have its own tone when using distortion and Les Pauls are being used by some of the heaviest players around..Ramstien too...
Great guitar, plays like a dream. You just have to watch out for little (or big) imperfections. Build quality isn't really consistent. The tuning machines and nut aren't all that good.
@dfftw Yea it's a great guitar for many different types of music. I use my Sg on everything from Prog. Rock to my Jazz tones. It has a very warm tone to it. I would really recomend trying one out at your guitar store to see if you get the tone your looking for exactly, but I might try posting some grunge/90's music later if that helps. If you have anyother questions feel free to ask, Thanks!
@Macsk8ing HI, I own the Epiphone Les Paul Custom and its a pretty good guitar the only problem is the gold hardware will turn into chrome within 6 months.. and I suggest that you upgrade it with some good seymour duncan or gibson pickups;) then you have a very nice guitar! but I would go for the Gibson! I'm going to buy the Gibson SG Special this week!
@TheNicolasMusic Yes I would definitely recommend it. The SG Faded is a great guitar at a pretty good price, but I would recommend you check it out for yourself at your local Guitar Center or Guitar retailer. If you have anyother question feel free to ask and thanks for watching.
