Why would one want a Rolex for loads of money when you can have one of those loltard watches with baby leather straps that burns your skin off? Only manly men has those with a hello kitty symbol on. I've got one. Wat.
Maybe it's just me, but if you have the money to buy even a used Rolex, you probably need to get your priorities in the right fucking order.
I have a iPod Touch, have had it for almost two years. It tells me what time it is, what day it is, plays videos and music, plays some good games, and does lots of other good and useful stuff. It only cost $300.
Spending more than a thousand dollars on a single-purpose item is stupid as hell.
It's like buying jeans that already have holes in them.
@Illustratedd Ok, not going to be rude, just pointing out a few corrections. "It's "their" money", not "It's there money". It's "Theirs" as in "That car is theirs" showing ownership, not "There" as in "I'm going there tomorrow" designating a place. And it's AN investment.
That being said, I agree with you 100% I may not agree with the motives behind a $5,000 watch, I may never buy a $5,000 watch, but I think that is a choice people can make for themselves.
its stupid to spend such money on a watch whatever brand is it unless you own a personal jet, He could have spend 600$ on Citizen and have good timepiece to show off. People lose their lives over Rolex its like having drugs on you and everybody knows you have them and wants them, him turning 16 couldnt atract more negative attention any other way than advertising extreme luxury to wrong people, thats sick men.
Why didn't that money go into a college fund? What good is that watch going to do for him in 3 years? OH wait! It will be given to his dealer to support his habit.
I was just joking. I'm 15 and the biggest present I've gotten was an iPhone 4. I usually don't get anything for my birthday. Last year I got $20 and nothing else, not even a cake. I'm just happy I'm not spoiled like the plaintiffs in the video..
If you are going to buy your kid a watch for his 16th Birthday, wouldn't you do the research before the purchase? Seems like he had her son handle everything...at 15 years old. She should lose for stupidity.
@SasquatchGroove Not really the point at all. If you get tricked out of 5k no matter if she is making a good amount of money you should get your money back. You're spending 5k on a watch you should get your moneys worth why give them 5k for something not worth it no matter how much money you have.
I wonder what it's like to live in a place where you could give a kid a Rolex and feel like you did something good instead of setting him up to get robbed. Don't get me wrong; It's ok to give them valuable things, but if you go that route, why not investments or something of sentimental value instead of a target and a big $ on his forehead?
Rolex's dont have a age limit. If the kid was a 3 year old that will probs try eating it sure. This kid aint dumb enough to wear a watch how the fuck can u be too young for a rolex? thats like saying your too young to ride a bike. pfft
He is so going to get jumped and the shit kicked out of him for that watch... People will see him on the street and be like 'Chop off his hand! No, that one with the watch on it!'
That dude just spent that amount of money on a fake thinking it was a rolex but sued when he learnt the news ... Basically he JUST wanna show off by buying a rolex rather than a "nice" watch !
"I don't want this nice good looking cheaper watch, i want a ROLEX. Oh that's a rolex, i'll fucking buy it ...... for $5000"
I didn't get shit for any of my birthdays. Sucks being born on april first. All you get is "I got you a present. APRIL FOOLS" -_- it's amazing I haven't committed matricide.
The rolex would be better given as a grad gift...I would never buy anything like a rolex. Got my kid a Bell and Ross instead...not till he turned 21 though.
Dunno about the kid being too young for a rollie - my Dad got a gold Tudor when he turned 21 - but then again, my 16th birthday I didn't get shit. I dont begrudge the kid his Rolex, but he bloody well better be grateful.
A "good" (meaning decently priced and good quality) watch, is a good way to give a child a chance at being responsible.
Although a $5000 might be a bit too much but still, its up the person buying it.They shouldn't be wearing it always, but that may be a possibility with some children if you think they seem responsible enough and careful enough.
If the child is able to go through childhood and still have the watch and its still works when they become a adult, you have helped them greatly
I don't understand the vagueness of the year - if they took it to an AD they wouldn't say "anywhere between...." I have an A serial Submariner which means 1998. As if these guys sell these watches and can;t determine the year - a simple internet search will tell you.
Who gives a 16 year old a $5000 watch!? Clothes, tuition, a car, something substantial/useful...No, she buys a damn watch, yet she can't even buy a decent suit for herself and her son.
ANYONE who sells you a Rolex without giving you the year is BULLSHIT! ALL Rolex watches have SERIAL NUMBERS that indicate the year it was made and the model of the watch.
Rolex's do not break easily, there is a reason why they fetch that type of cash. This is just poor parenting, a watch for his birthday fetching that price tag. Unless the kid is a watch enthusiast, put the money to better use such as towards car, towards college, something else that provides more utility.
I've always had a 30 Euro digital watch, plastic and steel digital, simple but efficient thing. When its batteries ran out I bought the exact same thing. My parents bought me a 150 Euro steel watch once for Christmas, weighted like a brick, I asked them to return it. Why waste money on a watch? And one that is less clear then a simple digital display?
Who spends all of that money on a fucking watch? People will spend such valuable hard-earned money on things that are expensive for no fucking reason. That money could have gone to charity. Spoiled fucking kids, spoiled fucking adults.
I love the judge in the first minute in a half. "A 5k watch?! Why don't you want a car? Wow you turned 16, you did a lot of work" Rofl.
This lady needs to get her priorities right. Who in their right mind would buy a 5k watch for a sixteen year old? Majority of people I know use phones/digital devices to check the time. -___-
Buy him a bloody Swatch!! the time will be exactly the same!! This case still disturbs me fundamentally.. They have no shame and the "mother" is creating another human waste-form rather than an ethical adult.. Try Seneca
@TheRenaldo we don't know that! he could be smart and maybe his mom just wants to gift him a smart and memorable item, I knew the sales guy was an ass from the moment he started fiddling around while the judge was asking questions.
Pause at 1:21 great facial expression :)...... 16 year old getting a $5000 watch? I thought it was crazy enough to buy a 16 year old a new car, but that makes more sense than a watch......
Oh you people are so mean. The Mom was just trying to be nice & buy her son a nice thing. Geez. I wish my Mom did. It may seem silly to us but its still a nice idea & gesture of the Mom for her son. I have seen people waste even more money- throwing their entire trust funds away on drugs- so just shutup & let the Mom get this watch for her damn kid.
@TheSkylur44 I'm going to be lifeguarding over the summer, which should rake in around five grand. I'm still on the fence about my final purchase, lol.
When they first walked in, I assumed that it was a wealthy Jewish mother splurging on her kid Bar Mitzvah gift. It didn't take long to throw that assumption out the window...
Its a fucking watch. Go get a damn 50 dollar timex. Damn like a rolex some how tells better time then any other watch in the world.I am work 2 jobs and literally have enough money to pay for food and I am 33.
@AmericanPride1234 I know right, that makes me sick. People like you and I are busting our asses to provide and people like this just throw money away to tell time!
@cmcardle I meant I literally dont have enough money to buy food btw. Thanks for agreeing with me. I literally told my sister last night to stay out of my life. Shes a loser. Shes a drunk, drug addict lazy ass and now she has a liver problem and claims she can't work. I can't use my right hand I have Cerebral Palsy and was working 3 jobs last yr and back to 2 jobs now. I am not the one to tell you can't work. and this episode pisses me off as well
@cmcardle That is because immigrants come to this country and rape the system. They get everything free that they can like public assistance and section 8 and they don't even need it. Listen to her accent. Also, look at the state of our economy due to "illegal" immigrants. They get WIC, food stamps, section 8 and/or HUD housing, and they have some dead guys social security number. They don't pay taxes and any surplus money they have, they don't spend it in the U.S. ~ they send it back to Mexico.
I guess this moronic kid can stare proudly at his $5000 watch on a Saturday night when his friends are all getting laid. This guy needs 'LOSER' stamped on his forehead.
I can't believe a kid that age, these days, would want something as stodgy as a Rolex watch. 5K present for turning 16? Agree she should have got him some orthodontia instead.
Idiot judge, it really bothers me that she is a real judge and can make such a stupid decision. The charge was that the store sold them a FAKE Rolex. The Rolex was not fake it was real. The bezel being aftermarket does not make it fake that is extremely common. The case and movement make the watch real or not. What a fuckin idiot.
plaintiff and judge are idiots. anyone who buys a rolex should do a little basic information gathering. It is not uncommon to see aftermarket parts on a rolex, because people can get the same thing for cheaper from sources other than rolex. It's not uncommon to see an aftermarket diamond bezel or dial. It is a rolex watch. Period. Rolex doesn't use 14kt gold, and if a customer wants a diamond bezel on the watch they already have, too bad. they have to buy a new watch. defendant got screwed
Well, when you are buying Rolexs, no she probably cant afford haircuts or braces. Maybe thats why he wants the Rolex, to draw attention away from his teeth and hair...lol.
You know what I got when I was 16? A fucking cake. WOW a Rolex at 16, a Ferrari at 18, a Yacht at 21 and a house by 25. Fucking Rich idiots, why should I or anyone here feel bad??? If the mother can afford a Rolex then I rest my case.
Six years ago I was in Kabul Afghanistan and at one of the flea markets I bought a watch that had the Rolex insignia on it. It looked so nice and only $10. I thought wow it looks real and one of my friends would love it even if it's fake. I gave it away to a guy who was a friend of a friend and guess what? He had it checked and the watch was a real Rolex. I was the fool by giving it to someone who wasn't even close to me. I should have bought more of them had I known. Blonde to the root.
haha.. the old rolex scam eh... you can buy these things all over the place fake of course but pretty convincing... who the hell needs a 5 grand watch anyways let alone a 16 year old kid.

Rolex is SWISS movement-anyone with a sharp eye can tell the difference from Japanese movement.
On Swiss movement; the second hand moves fluidly, not "ticking", SWISS Movement is written on the front, and/or the rear of the case.
On Rolex specifically, ROLEX is labeled on the rear with model and signature markings on the rear of the case.

I turn sixteen in March. I WISH my parents would buy me a Rolex, hah. They wouldn't buy me a $200 watch if I asked, lol.
pwnagnerd 1 year ago
@pwnagnerd You'd be better off with a car. Anyone can get a cheap watch which keeps the same time as a Rolex, but transportation...priceless.

@TheSkylur44 I'm going to be lifeguarding over the summer, which should rake in around five grand. I'm still on the fence about my final purchase, lol.
pwnagnerd 1 year ago
@pwnagnerd Whatever you do, get one that's waterproof, not just for the beach but for rain etc, waterproof is pretty essential.

A Rolex watch for a kid? You must be kidding. My watch cost me $50 at Target. It tells time just fine.

When they first walked in, I assumed that it was a wealthy Jewish mother splurging on her kid Bar Mitzvah gift. It didn't take long to throw that assumption out the window...

AmericanPride1234 1 year ago
@AmericanPride1234 I know right, that makes me sick. People like you and I are busting our asses to provide and people like this just throw money away to tell time!
cmcardle 1 year ago
@cmcardle I meant I literally dont have enough money to buy food btw. Thanks for agreeing with me. I literally told my sister last night to stay out of my life. Shes a loser. Shes a drunk, drug addict lazy ass and now she has a liver problem and claims she can't work. I can't use my right hand I have Cerebral Palsy and was working 3 jobs last yr and back to 2 jobs now. I am not the one to tell you can't work. and this episode pisses me off as well
AmericanPride1234 1 year ago
@cmcardle That is because immigrants come to this country and rape the system. They get everything free that they can like public assistance and section 8 and they don't even need it. Listen to her accent. Also, look at the state of our economy due to "illegal" immigrants. They get WIC, food stamps, section 8 and/or HUD housing, and they have some dead guys social security number. They don't pay taxes and any surplus money they have, they don't spend it in the U.S. ~ they send it back to Mexico.

I can definitely agree with the teeth aspect, but kids are kids.. they want the hairstyles they want. Not what others want.
I still wouldn't be buying a kid a Rolex.. and now that he's on national television, everybody knows who to role at school.
