I'm about to splash out on a 'pro' cam. I love the look of this, but it is tape only. The external recorder is another £500. The Z7 looks nice but it is pricey and only has 1/3 chips..why not give it 1/2 inch sensors? The interchange lens feature is not so attractive because of this limitation. So will it be the Z5 or Z7? There are a lot of beans at stake here, so I have to make the right choice.
can you please tell sony forget about the rolling shutter issue, this is what they have to worry:JVC GY-HM100 can record 35Mbps FULL HD(1080P) and uncompressed audio to SDHC in the native QuickTime format used by FCP,HM100 will kill all tape recording HDV cam, sony have to react faster this time, either made a new cam that work like HM100 in 6 months or made the next optional SSD recorder for Z5 that can record in QuickTime,i been thinking to buy a Z5 but now i have to wait and see,so do something
Not including extra menus etc on the Z5 here is a brief comparison of the basic features: HDR-FX1000 (preliminary) features: 3-CMOS image sensors (Exmor processing) 24p/30p/60i Sony G-series lens 20X optical zoom NTSC DV/HDV HVR-Z5E (preliminary) features: 3-CMOS image sensors (Exmor processing) *24p/25p/30p/50i/60i Sony G-series lens 20X optical zoom *NTSC/PAL DV/HDV/DVCAM *XLR Audio
With the limitations of bandwidth, a video that shows the true picture quality online would be impossible. You can get a better idea on our web site as we have better resolution videos than Youtube defaults to.
Ultimately, if you are in the UK, come and visit us and see for yourself.
It has DVCAM recordability as well as professional XLR audio inputs. Apart from that, its the same camera as the FX1000. What I REALLY want to see is ANOTHER video with more information actually detailing the camera as well as a few videos of image quality as the scattered reviews and videos I have seen have not impressed me and I am very interested in buying this camera, from CVP actually! Thanks guys.

How long can the FLASH card record for?
I’ve been using standard DV tapes and HDV tapes in my last camera (Sony HDR-HC1E)…will these work or do I need to buy DVCAM tapes?

Is the HVR Z5 still PAl to NTSC switchable? There is almost no mention of it in the specs. If so, surely this is a HUGE difference from the FX1000
tunguy 2 years ago
So, you mean CMOS is better than my FX1 3CCD, I don`t know about that.
What are your guys think. FX1 & Z1 are three years old but still beat the new models of any brand with 3CCD.

Not quite. There are about 50 differences between the two aforementioned camcorders.
We will try and create another video addressing what you say.
Your comments help us make better videos - thanks :)

can you put a fisheye lens on it?
L0lrYaNL01 2 years ago
Yes you can. If you view the Sony HVR-Z5E on our web site and click on Optional you can see the Wideangle, FishEye and Telephoto adaptors.
There is a link to the product in the info box (top right).
