This is rare but true. Years ago I had a white Araucana hen that used to crow like that. She laid beautiful blue colored eggs, she was the top of the pecking order in that pen.
In this case Pearl still lays eggs, even though she is pretty old now. She just lets out the occasional crow - maybe once every six months or so. Silly girl.
Ive heard of hens that after a while stop laying eggs and turn into roosters! its like a 1 in a million probability thing. I had a hen that used to ...mate with other hens O_o
That's what I'm going through with one of my hens. She still lays eggs but she's started crowing and mounting my younger pullets. At least they're doing the egg squat for her, that's a good sign that they'll be laying soon. Silly chickens!
some hens will take on the orles of the rooster. When they are older they will stop laying. She was past her prime. There are some breeds that are known for hens crowing. Being in the city I have to stay away from these breeds. It is funny though you can tell she isnt good at it.
Hens can crow google it.I've been with chickens for all my life and I know that for a fact they can crow. She probably will also grow a roosters comb and plumage. But she might still lay eggs.
Heh, neat! My family had a hen who sometimes crowed. I think her female-parts were damaged during hatching though; many of her innards came out. Mom put them back in, and she survived, but she was always tired. She was narcoleptic. We named her Sleepy.
She only laid one giant egg in her life (And it must've hurt, poor girl squawked while it happened). Otherwise, she tried to mate with hens and would crow much like this hen.
She was a great pet. Lived 8 or 10 years. We miss her.

I hate to break this to you, but your young chicks may actually be roosters :( It was odd when Pearl was doing it because she is over three years old and lays eggs, but with young 3 mo-6 mo chickens it's usually a sign they are males.
i bet, especially when you're having your way with them. maybe you ought to lay off fucking them silkies for a while to regain some of your sense of humor, you tight ass shmuck
@barndiggler When they are chicks (1-3 weeks old) you can take you index and middle finger and hang them gently and if they move around a fuss they are a boy and if they just hang there its 99% a girl. You can also see a difference in their comb when they are 5 months old. I have many silkies to know that Hope it helps (:
it does happen. i've seen it, the other hens are left confused and nervous afterward. it's quite funny, i need to get a roo soon to put her in her place!
No - she is most likely trying to take on the dominant role of "head Roo". Do you have a rooster in with them? If not, the head hen will take over his responsibilities.
When she tried tried the first time she blew the other hen away

Cool, someone else with a crowing hen on youtube. I just now uploaded a video of my hen doing the same thing, check it out. 5/5.

Haha.
That's funny!
Never seen this but I've heard of it. If you get a rooster in with them, she'll stop, but unfortunately, the rooster will be crowing. Haha.
