Nice my man . I live on the divide in Montana my brother and I got to say that was special . It put a tear in my eye for the joy of getting to live against the Mountain. Don't let the Commies fool you though. The wilderness is a happy wilderness and the animals of the forest are fat and healthy. Now the trees have pine bark beetles but that is because not enough harvesting is occurring and the day will come when the forest burns like a tender box
Hi Melek Taus.. a cool note.. nature finds away and just maybe, just maybe all will recover and the rain will come.. enjoy your space, it sounds extraordinary.. regards Mike
Hey, Mike. What's the chord you play after the G, when you're not playing E minor? (I love this song, and would like to learn your version, because it will inspire me to work more on my fingerpicking, with what time I have to spare at the moment!)
its G to Am 7 (still holding the G chord.. ) love you to work on your fingerpicking.. its so much more creative than just strumming.. have fun.. always! m
It's an E minor, just a different fingering than the one most people use - a bit higher. I had to look it up also. The G to G/Am7 is a different part of the song. You could just play a Cmaj there if you want.
One of my favourite songs, always a good one at the folk sessions back home with my Dad. Enjoy the wilds of NZ - I live here now and it is a fantastic place to be. If you are in Auckland there is a good session at the Dogs Bollix, can't remember which day
hello. i am wondering how you figured out the tab for this song - i am a musician and play a lot by ear but on violin and viola, but this song has been my favorite since i was a kid and i would love to learn it. is there any help that you could give me?
hi.. I don't read tabs.. I just listen to the song and construct the guitar arrangements in my head then remember them.. I'm in NZ at the moment out in the wilds but drop me a note in two weeks time and I'll drop you some notes how to play this song. cheers Mike
Absolutely beautiful rendition of one of my all time favorite songs by Kate. I noticed in one person's comment that they suggested you post something by Stan Rogers. If you do, you might want to consider his song The Candle. I think your talents would really shine on that one. All the best.
Thanks for that.. Kate wrote such a simple but time less song.. nor heard of the SR song but I have covered several of his songs.. I'll look this one up when I get back home.. thanks again for the note.. regards Mike
Nice job; preamble a bit dis-ingenuous, though, don't you think? ALso on the intro, for the little picking riff on the change from F# to D (Em to C chord shapes), try jumping up to the G and B strings; the higher notes sing better.
Thanks for posting; I like watching different versions and settling on one of my own that mixes the best from various people. I lifted one chord change from you; the combination D and F# instead of the straight Em. ("Countin' troubles, instead of ...").
Your latest Kate Wolf brought me to this one, which... (not to be redundant) I love! Had a Nanci Griffith CD years ago with it, that I nearly wore out. And now I am you have me hooked again with your lovely rendition! Wish I had learned to pick a guitar years ago. Yours style is so great to watch! Thank you, Mike. :) Phyllis
Your videos and selection of tunes are absolutely wonderful. Your compassion and love for this music is clearly obvious. I wish you the best and hope you will continue to post as often as you can. Perhaps some more Stan Rogers, Bill Staines or ?????
Thanks so much for your kind comments. I'm pleased you appreciate the selection. Certainly look up more of Stan and Bill. I'm working on one of Garnets's called 'small victory' M:)
Nice collection of videos watched a few of them, we have very similar tastes!! Funny, I read your biog and found that you live in Bridgenorth, I'm in Shrewsbury, do you ever gig around the area? I run 2 open mic night in Ironbridge and Shrewsbury on monday nights it would be great to hear you live at one of them, you'd be the first act picked up on youtube!!
I love your light spirit, all your stuff is real and honest. I have wanted to learn this song forever and you laid it down in an easy way to pick it up, thanks
Lovely, just lovely!! The song and you. Your version has such warmth and depth. Sounds great. Debs.x
