Muslims only defend against those who wish to oppress them, especially in a combat. just a little more to what others have wrote...some of the things that Shias believe in go against Quran, the FINAL revelation. Especially the end of prophet hood, which goes against the very basic beliefs of Islam. They also have Imams much like the popes in christianity, and they call to the Hussain(AS), the nephew of Mohammad like christian call to Jesus(AS). So their views differ from Islam at a very fundamental level. They represent i think less than 20% of the Muslims in the world.
