actually this would be a claymore. a longsword is the regular medieval sword that everyone knows. it is in between the shortsword and clay more when compared in length. but anyway good drawing, the hands actually aren't messed up because the person might be left handed.

Longswords are also refered to as hand and a half swords. You can use it in one hand, but the handle is long enough to use 2 hands on, wich you would do under most surcomstances.

Longswords are however neither heavy nor clumsy weapons, so what he refers to as a heavy sword would probably be a twohander. but remember, 2,5 kg is a pretty heavy twohanded sword, a longsword weighs around 1,3-1,6 kg.

also, the handle is that long for a reason, don't hold your hands so close together.

To all people commenting "This is a claymore or a greatsword", well, in fact names of the swords changed form a language to another. In french "Épée longue" is the one handed vicking sword. in German, "Langshwert" is the long two handed sword. So it can vary. However, the guy DO ignore everything about what a sword should look like. Study something before thinking you can show other how to draw it!!

Im Sorry, But this really sucks.

1. longswords are One handed weapons.

2.they are double edged, meaning they have a triangular tip.

3. you should use an instrument to make straight lines.

4. when making straight lines without an instrument, dont make two long strides and connect, 50% of the time, they wont add up... make shorter lines grouped together.

5. you should make a better effort to keep your drawings neat and in order. i honestly think a 12-13 year old could of done better work.

If you noticed, when he drew the sword, he is left handed so he drew the character holding it left handed as well, so you try and do this as well, try to do the opposite if you're right handed because you have a better idea on how it should be drawn instead of doing the opposite of what you're use to.

In real life, a one handed swords is called an arming sword, or simply a sword. The longsword is a later advancement in western swords. Because of advances is metal working, blades could be made longer. A longsword is a two handed weapon.
