It is hard to understand your outlook. Don't you see....this is the reason why this Sicilian Festival exists!!! To keep the heritage and culture of the old country alive!!! Yes, we know Sicily now has a thriving economy, as we visit our family each year (and of course there are still musical troupes there that preserve the culture), but we still have a community here in San Diego that is totally immersed in its Sicilian heritage. We will do our best to preserve this precious culture.
Beddu Fighiu!...listen up folks.....this is an era thats quickly coming to an END!
I hate to be the bearer of sad news, BUT...almost all of my Sicilian relatives are now dead or soon will be, and its the end of all those Sicilian memories that we all had.
Those Sicilian immigrants and NOT coming to the USA anymore....life is pretty good now in Sicily....all my children have married irish or non Italians, so this is another reason for the era to come to an end. Arrivaderci a tutti!!!...
im italian and live in california...and this is the only time of the year i feel "at home"...its so nice to have a little italy here and italian feasts..i love hearing everyone talking in dialect and singing in napulitano and sicilian...i feel like im back in brooklyn <3 :)
@italianluvah83 haha im sicilian but not from brooklyn or anything my grandpa is from italy and my grandmas parents are from italy and they live real close but when i visit them it feels like im not in california lol
Only 10 days ago my wife & I had the wonderful pleasure of experiencing San Diego's charming Little Italy neighborhood. I'm tellin you - its almost like being in Europe. If you go, try to stay within walking distance of India Street. San Diego's Gaslamp area is OK for the party-hearty crowd, but simply does not have the friendly "feel" of Little Italy. Great restaurants & views, and a perfect location to be "based" at for all other San Diego attractions.
Yes, there is quite a large population here, including a large Sicilian population. Little Italy in San Diego is also quite large and supports two festivals each year, the Sicilian Festival on June 6, 2010 and the Little Italy Festa the second weekend in October. Thanks for writing! Giovannadi
WOW!! Thats amazing. I love Italian people, Italian culture n food. Invite all youre ITALIAN relatives to cum to California to live. I live in a little Spanish/Mex beach town about 5 hours north of SD, and we also have a growing Italian population. Thanks for all the info and youre reply. I can wait to attend both of youre Festas or Fiestas like our Old Spanish days n buy lots of wine. "Have a connolli my friend."

@aguafinatv I don't know about San Diego but San Francisco Bay Area has a good size Italian population...approx 100,000 in the whole Bay Area.
