Gaetano scirea kept him out the Italy team for 4 years until he retired, that's when Franco broke in to the Italy team. Italy without a doubt have always and always will produce the best ever defenders. Now it's giorgio chiellini and leonardo bonucci.

So he was playing for AC Milan like all his life. 20 years!!

yes, his shirt number 6 was retired after the end of his career. he played for ac milan since he was 6 years old. paolo maldini (41y old) few days ago retired too, after 25 years in the major league with ac milan just like franco baresi. his shirt has been retired too. noone will be able to wear number 3 and 6 in the future in ac milan. they have been captains of the italian national team for years, first baresi and then maldini, they are real legends of football.
