thought i was gonna die on it back in 87 i think it was.i was 12 and a pretty small kid and in the last car.every time it topped a hill it would almost throw me out of the car onto the track.it was all i could do to keep myself inside the car.i've never been so scared on a ride in my entire life. i really thought i was gonna die...i couldn't even keep my ass on the seat and there was no lap bar back then, just a metal bar attached to the front of the car to hold onto.

No, the backwards Racer isn't there because it was recommended by the manufacturer to only run trains facing forwards, and by Ohio law, Kings Island must cooperate with any recommendations or suggestions made by these companies.

The Racers are what a Roller Coaster is suppose to be. The old wooden roller coasters where you just have a bar across your lap, holding on with a prayer and you can feel yourself coming up out of your seat around a foot on every dip. These new steel coasters like Diamondback might be bigger and faster, but to me they are just not the same, a totally different kind of ride.

Cedar Fair (in my opinion) has done a lot to Kings Island that takes the fun out of it. The coasters are still awesome, but the names are stupid! The scenery for some of the rides is lame now, and it just takes a lot away. (in my opinion)

no they took it back to original kings island. When they first open it was both forwards and tell me where the theming sucks besides the cypted because they had no chose. The names changed because they had to make them up really quick.

And, PTC recommended that the cars go forward because that was the way it was designed, so Cedar Fair took their advice and made it forward again. I do miss the backwards Racer because you don't get to ride a lot of coasters that go backward.

Originally The Racer did go forward on both sides but in 1982 when the park was still owned by Taft Broadcasting Company they decided to change one of the cars to go backwards because they wanted more attendance in the park, because of all the problems with The Bat. It was meant that the 1982 season would be the only season to have one of the cars go backwards but it was such a hit that they kept it that way. Paramount bought Kings Island in 1992.

They only changed the "Racer's" direction because Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. didnt want one of their rides partaining to a Paramount based film. That is alo why "Drop Zone" is now "Drop Tower" and "Face/Off" is now "Invertigo".

the blue racer at King's Island doesn't go backwards anymore because it a lot of people would rather ride the red one frontwards(chickens.) so now they race, like the Gemini at cedar point.:)

Actually, the reason Cedar Fair did that was because that's how the Racer started out--both trains forwards. This was back in the early 70's. During the early 80's they decided to reverse one train.

I do agree that it was a dumb decision, though.

It's not really cedar's fault, its the new guy in charge, he wanted the park to look like what it in the 70s and 80s and thats when racer ran fowards, so cedar decided to hire him, not to re-reverse the racers

This is the single most painful roller coaster I've ever been on. The person sitting beside me accidentally elbowed me in the ribs because the ride was so jerky, and I came away with a big bruise. My neck was in serious pain the next day. Skip the Racer!!

Cedar Fair isn't taking it away, they're making it the way it was orignally. They're suppossed to race each other, hence the name the racer. they've even re-installed the red and green race lights at the beginning of the ride.

Isn't that the way with a lot of wooden roller coasters? That is why people like them becasue they are bumpy and such. Everytime I went there, the line for backwards was longer than forwards, but it may just be the days I went. I loved this ride.
