Since these were diapers, i was using a warm water wash, with a cold rinse.
Your washing method will depend on your washing machine, how much water it uses, how many clothes you are putting in, etc. Try experimenting with just tossing in a few soap nuts on a regular cold cycle. It may work just fine. if not, you can try making a "tea" out of the soap nuts by placing them in 2 cups of hot water for a few minutes and then pouring that extract plus the soap nuts in with your cold water wash.
Thanks for the demo. I was wondering if you compared CheekyMaiden brand with Maggie or Lullwater? Lullwater nuts that I use are not whole nuts and are much lighter in color. Would that make a difference?
For the most part, the nuts all come from the same place- India. However, there are grades of quality. I've never used Lullwater nuts, but when my soap nuts begin to get lighter in color I know that they are about ready to be replaced.
I've used Maggie's and can say that Cheeky Maiden Soap nuts are the same quality as those, only not quite as expensive. =) I like to look for soap nuts that are dark and somewhat "sticky". These seem to be the freshest.

Are you using warm or cold water in that wash? and If you wash your clothes in cold water, do you have to do anything differently?
