i know Chinese recipes r really good..yummy...but i strongly recommend indian & paki recipes for spicy n hottest chicken...btw u said "enjoy" very cute..
Thinking about making something like this tonight I will prolly follow the recipe but add another tsp of black pepper and a few jalapeno's and some shrimp.
Saw this video a month ago and just made it tonight...I LOVE THIS AND I LOVE YOU! This is one of my favorite asian cuisines and now I can make it whenever I want!!!! I also subscribed!!! I had to edit some of the ingredients (1/2 tsp of white pepper and 1 tsp of black paper instead of what the recipe called for) but it was spot on perfect!!!! I paired it with some yellow rice...yum! Ahhhh I can't wait to try other dishes on your channel!!!!!
@AsianCookingmadeEasy I want to cook this with one chicken instead of 3 as I've never cooked something like this before. Can you please tell me what will be the measurement of the ingredients for one chicken? Would be very helpful if you do that.
Thank you! I'm going to make black pepper tofu tomorrow!! I'm going to try this using firm tofu cut into cubes and fried and then I'll follow the rest of your recipe. I'm so craving chinese food now. Thank you for the recipe!
i like this i am trying to break into other cultures dishes i am naturally hispanic and i've already mastered spanish cooking but it gets boring eating your own thing all the time i will definatley try this :)
@AsianCookingmadeEasy How do you cook chicken without producing so much smoke? I tried grilling chicken in my dorm room today and security came to visit my room three times!!!
@qochemist Yes you can use this recipe for shrimp too - just make sure to cut the cooking time on the shrimp. You want to cook them just until they turn pink :)
WOW, someone finaly made a dish with NO coriander in it, HURAHHH. Ill just leave the pepper out and make it myself, black pepper makes me itchy and cough and sneze, ick it's to spicy for me, my throught is sor right now from it, oooh : (
just made this pepperd chicken for my tea and it was ace iv been cooking for a couple of years now and this was about as good a meal as iv made highly recomended to any1 ...thankyou lela ya wee baby xx
@xAznxAngelx The regular onions will give it a bit of a different flavor and texture, but I think it will be good. And the Mirin would work fine as well :)
@atchoy2 Sherry is a wine - here I use cooking sherry which can usually be found in most local grocery stores. You can also use a regular sherry you would drink as well :)
I made this recipe for my family, and they loved it! It's become a regular in my rotation of recipes as my family requests it often! Also, I had a hard time finding the thick soy sauce, which struck me as strange because I live in Hawaii and usually have no problems finding ingredients for Asian dishes. After browsing the comments, I read where it could be substituted with one part (regular) soy sauce and one part molasses. Worked perfectly! Thank you so much for uploading this video!
Finally got around to making this today and used the 1 part molasses, 1 part normal soy instead of the thick soy sauce like you recommended. This was probably the best dish I have ever made. No joke. So yummy. Thanks again for the recipe! :).. One question though : Why didn't my chicken brown like yours in the wok? Was it because I used a different oil other than peanut oil?
@AceTravis33 I don't think this was b/c of the different oil. There may be several reasons why it didn't brown. It may be because the oil was not completely hot when the chicken was added, or perhaps the size of your wok. If it is a small wok you may need to cook this in batches. Also, when cooking the chicken you want to let it sit for 2 minutes (it may take a bit longer depending on your heat source and wok) on each side to let it brown instead of constantly stirring. I hope this helps :)
@AceTravis33 Its because you subsituted the thick soy. If you can't find it ,subsitute with hoison sauce not normal soy sauce and won't need mollasses..
I make this dish for dinner today. I doesn't have garlic salt at home, but i substitute it with fresh minced garlic and salt. The tatse of this dish is so delicious until my husband said it's like outside stall dish....lol. Thank you for sharing this video lela
For the thick soy you can use about 1 tsp reg soy sauce mixed with 1 tsp of molasses. And the sherry is actually a cooking wine. You can use either shao hsing wine or another dry white wine if you wish :)
Sherry is a cooking wine an can usually be found near the vinegar section of your local grocery store. If you can't find it you can also use shao hsing cooking wine which can be found in most oriental grocery stores :)
Yes, steak would work with this also. Just slice it into thin pieces, and cook it like the chicken, but not as long - just until it's a little pink in the center :)
I wouldn't add water to this dish, but you can replace the garlic salt in the marinade with garlic powder, and then use a low sodium oyster sauce for the sauce :)
Oyster sauce actually gives this dish most of it's flavor. They do make a vegetarian version of oyster sauce which is made with mushrooms instead of oysters. This sauce would work as well :)
There is only one Asian restaurant that cooks this by me I have to drive 15 miles to get there, but it tastes so good. One thing I noticed though is that they use a larger black pepper seed, which give it a a better kick. Maybe it's peppercorn, I don't know.

The oyster sauce in this recipe does provide the main flavor. You could try using about 2tbsp hoisin mixed with about 1 tbsp of regular soy sauce. The flavor will be different, but still good :)
The sherry does add a bit of flavor in this recipe, but you can substitute it with 1 tsp rice wine vinegar mixed with 1 tsp of water or chicken broth :)

Shao hsing wine is great in this too - I've never really used any others than those two; but you can always experiment. Even a little bourbon might be good :)
Hi - it's Lila (which is actually pronounced leela.) I have a heavy accent so it comes out like "lilly" sorry :)
Thick soy is not the same as hoisin sauce. Thick soy is a thicker sweeter version of regular soy that has molasses and extra sugar added. You can usually find it in any oriental grocery store. Thanks for watching :)
