The guy in the demo is a PBA member; however, he's a wannabe player. I am a very competitive bowler with a 200+ average, and at age 70 too. (I, too, thought his 5 step was a riot.) I have everything from "plastic" to high performance in my arsenal. My favorite is the ball that works under the conditions I'm facing.
It's too bad this guy can't be banned from YouTube for giving AMF a worse name than it already has.
I averaged 215 before i started watching these videos, and now i am down to 160!!! If this guy has a PBA card, I wanna know what bathtub he bowls in!! That is what every advanced bowler wants, the ball to hook in the heads more!! Thanks, Ed for being the sole reason the PBA is struggling and bowling is losing it's fan base.
I love my new pink panther, I wish these videos were newer, ideas have changed so much since this, They have new cover stock chemical combinations, new resins new everything.
@akison1000 I would suggest something with a dull coverstock with not as much backend reaction I would suggest either the the storm furious or the rotogrip mutant cell
I just bought the "Victory road" 15lb ball with the pin-up position (just came out jan 10-11). First game with it was a feeler to test it out and got 168. Once i figured it out ive been getting 190+ on a regular basis, if you have the arm/wrist strength to hook a ball as hard as this one is meant to, then i highly recommend having this ball for your strike shots, and a slightly less agressive ball for your spare shots.
in 1908 a lady named sally rusa was in the woods looking for a dog until a ghost came and killed her so if ur reading this u will find a bloody body in your closet hanging there haunting you and will kill you and ur family and if u want to stop this just sends this to 6 videos in 30 mins or this will happen good luck!!!
@TheFeard That depends, how often do you bowl? Are you a beginner, intermediate, or advanced bowler, whats your average score per game? How serious are you about your game?
Tornado is not a plastic ball, but its a step above a plastic ball.. It was my very first bowling ball.. If you put revs on it, like any other bowling ball, it will hook.
It's so funny how these "Top Pros" that are coaches, you never see them on tour. If they were so freaking good, they would be tearing the lanes apart right now. Who the heck is this guy? He's not even on the senior tour or regionals nor does he have a USBC average. WTF??
This guy doesn't know the difference between the mid performance and beginner. A Scout and a Power Groove as a mid-level ball? Maybe when they first came out in late 2007 but not now since the birth of the Cell line, the NV series and the Gravity Shift line. Power Grooves and Scouts are more along the lines of an entry level ball, followed by mid-level balls like the Raw Hammers and the Hammer VIBE series, followed by the higher perfoming Virtual Gravity and the Cell line.
i hate how he says if you have a high performence ball you will play better, cause thats not true, i know i bowl with a Tornado, and i know people who bowl with the high performence balls, i can beat them 6 out of 10 tries
Uh sorry I am always at the alley and I would strongly advise not to get a scout. They have no hook. Seen guys throw as many revs as they can and get no hook.
Hey moron, they're all "plastic". I think you mean to say that those cheap balls have a polyester coverstock which doesn't provide significant friction on the lane. No beginner should start with a "plastic" ball. They'll outgrow it in a week. They're so-so for spare balls but that's about it. Spend an extra $15-$20 and get an entry level urethane ball instead. This guy just wants more money for his hairpiece.
I would have to disagree about novices not buying plastic. It's a good idea to start with plastic for a significant time. It's more important to learn how to actually bowl than to do what most people do in modern bowling - buy an expensive ball and shoot in a league letting the ball do all the work. Fundamentals are key, and there's no reason to mess with a hook until you have gotten them down fairly well. It just gives a beginner too much to think about. And his hairpiece creeps me out.
I have to disagree with your disagreement. Why BUY a plastic ball when every house ball in every alley is plastic? Just use a house ball until such time to graduate to a used urethane or reactive ball. Screw buying new until you know the difference between PAP and R/G and what each means.
I'll have to disagree with your disagreement to my previous disagreement. First, you're assuming all people buying a new ball are ready to throw a hook. If a bowler is 8 yrs old he/she should be throwing a straight ball. 2) You BUY a new ball so you can get it drilled for your finger. Otherwise it's almost like saying why buy shoes ever when you can simply use the lane shoes. Your own equipment works much better for you since it's made to fit your body.
Buying for a child is not this "expert's" target audience. A urethane ball with a pancake core with drilling costs just as much or even LESS than a plastic ball (vis-a-ball price rage) with drilling. Plastic is the way to go for a small child, but a majority of small children either bowl underhand ignoring the finger drilling completely, or have such a rudimentary stroke that a house ball is fine. If the kid is skilled at all then buy UP and get a urethane so they can grow into the equipment.
Furthermore, I totally disagree on not buying until you know PAP etc. I have limited knowledge of PAP and R/G and the like, yet I average 200+ in every league I've been in on varying lane conditions. In fact, Walter Ray Williams himself has stated that he has no idea what those things mean and he leaves that all to the people who drill his balls. The point of having a pro shop with which to work is so that they can do all the drilling stuff for you.
the real purpose of a plastic ball is to keep the ball from over hooking on spares. they are great on many lane conditions. My first real bowling ball is a blue hammer. 10yrs ago I didn't have the luxuary of resins. Now I hear that the new bb's are better and hit harder. I cant wait to get a new one.
Brunchordie asks a good question. If you know someone who has bowled for a few years or someone who is very good, don't buy a plastic ball. Watch and learn and ask questions. Join a league and take your lumps. Always ask questions based on what you are doing. "IF" you need a plastic ball later, you can get one. I know people with 200 avg who don't use a plastic ball. Agreed plastic balls arent nec. unless you cant in ANY way not hook the ball...im a 190 avg bowler with reactive balls no plastic. All i do is just straight my arm out and go at em!
Well not trying to say that a bad idea at all because look at norm duke he doesnt use a spare ball....But if u may have noticed most pros will straighten out their wrist and still use a plastic ball for an even straighter approach at spares.
I only use one ball; a storm, which is a reactor ball. My stepdad has been teaching me to use one ball and one ball only, for spares and all. Probably out of ten throws, i could pick up the 10 (or even the 7 pin) at least 7 times. What I'm saying is that a spare ball really isnt neccesary.
a spare ball is useless without accuracy. it's useful if you're bowling on varying lane conditions, so you don't have to worry about hook (unless it's really dry. my friend was able to hook a house ball thrown helicopter-style on really dry lanes. and I had to move into the 30th board with my Storm Spit Fire)
True story. Friend of mine was the manager at a bowling alley and bowled on the Sunday league with me and my family. He found a bowling ball in the trash and picked it up. Roughly two weeks later he rolls a 300.
If you bowl more than 2 times a week or been bowling for more than 4 years, Buy a ball that fits your style of bowling. Everyone dosen't bowl the sameway. Therefor, all bowling balls will act differently.
Walk before you crawl. Helps a beginner learn to spot bowl, get a feel for the angles etc. It's easy for us experienced bowlers to simplify the game and forget the basics, but keep in mind it's still shooting at very small targets quite a distance away, and this can be intimidating for a new bowler. Plus a plastic non-reacting ball will makes a good spare ball once you graduate to a reactive ball. :)
that has to be a wig.
