  • revolvers are fun to shoot

  • I perfer to shoot 44 special through my raging bull the 44 mag full power loads are hard on my hand. Im not sure why but my 454 dosnt even kick as hard as the 44. maby the difference is the 454 has a longer barrel.

  • Stupid question, why did they pin the barrel? I heard alot about pinned barrels but I never heard any arguments or info on it.

  • Is there a big difference in shooting compared to a .357 Mag caliber?

  • Comment removed

  • what brand of holster is that? I need one of those!!!!

  • @snoorton diamond d leather. he says so in the video i think.

  • My dad has a .357 Mag S&W and it is SOOOOOOOOOOOO fun to shoot!!

  • yours is nice. I still like mine better though. I'm glad I got a speed reloder, they are AWESOME!

  • Does this gun have that thin steel star under the extractor? There's one on my 38 special and it's a little loose. What is that part and is it supposed to be loose?

  • hey im getting into guns and i wanted you to know you really have tought me alot you say your from ky well im in cincy we should get together sometime and have some funs with guns

  • This will be my next revolver!

  • what grips?

  • lan amca nerden buluon bu kadar muhimmatı a.q

  • Guys, a great way to contribute to hickok45's channel is to subscribe to his twitter. He asks for opinions and other thoughts.

He recently asked for an opinion on red dot sights that he might want to take a look at.

I figured, if there's any way to give back to a guy who does so much work for us, we could help him out a little bit!

  • what are some hot .357 magnum loads?

  • Just a coule of questions, Why don't you use gass-checks with your magnum load lead bullets? I always use them on magnum loads, lead fowling is reduced a lot.

And as for the Garrett cartridges 310gr, lovely ones, but i do find the S&W 44 frame to weak for those loads. I always go to a Ruger Super Redhawk for the 310 and 330gr heavy hunting bullets. Much stronger platform than the model29 for hunting etc. with max loadings.

  • You def have the best handgun videos I've ever seen

  • Elmer Keith Would be proud of you.

  • Starline Brass nice!

  • hickok is the god of guns

  • Sir, I am considering a new Smith revolver. I have owned a couple over the years but have none at the moment. I'd like your opinion on the internal lock. Do you think it's unwise to buy one with the ILS? Some may say get a used Smith but I prefer to buy my guns brand new. I'll most likely buy a new Smith, I just wanted your experienced opinions on the matter. Thanks

  • is it possible to use a 50ae round in the 44 magnum (the desert eagle round)?

  • @simman4427 No, because the .44 magnum is a 429-431 diameter bullet whereas the .50ae is a .500 diameter bullet.

  • @Weaponcollecter16 oh ok the cool ;)

  • The sht economy has made shooting a rich mans sport unless you stick to a 22LR. I think its about time we took our country back.

  • For some stupid reason, which i'm pretty sure about anyhow, Smith and Wesson cancelled the famous Model 29 revolver then came out with the Model 629... to get a model 29 .44 magnum revolver you'd have to search for a while then proceed to pay-out-the-ass. Isn't that dandy... :D

  • @fletcher15453 Not hard to find. Looking at one right now on gunbroker, NIB for 869.00 from a dealer in my state.

  • @fletcher15453 Are you sure about them being cancelled? Because they are still listed in the "Classics" category on the S&W site.

  • Beautiful gun, thanks!!!

  • also greg has an awesome mustache

  • hickok45 is so awesome i love all his videos and i would like to thank him and his son john for their time videos and money

  • garrett has two 310 gr. loads, which did u fire?

  • @Tangent108 i think he shot the defender ammo not the hammerheads

  • when do we get to see john shoot?

  • @tweezee He has his own channel.

  • Great vid..love the 4 inch 629

  • is a 44 magnum stronger than a 45?

  • @tweezee yes if you are talking 45 acp and 45 colt

  • @tweezee its stronger than any 45 pistol bullet out there

  • @TheBassGuitarist1 Actually the 44 magnum is not stronger than all of the 45 caliber cartridges. Both the 454 Casull and the 460 S&W are more powerful than the 44 magnum.

  • @Weaponcollecter16 not too mention the 45 winmag!

  • @tweezee yes way way stronger

  • @roninpainbringer is a 357 mag stronger than a 45?

  • @tweezee yes

  • @roninpainbringer thanks friend. im pretty new to this and i was just wondering.

  • This may be a stupid question but what is the difference between 44.Mag and 44.rem mag?

  • @froggergoat, Same thing. Remington developed the cartridge, so the full name is ".44 Remington Magnum"; however, most people just say .44 Magnum. The .40 caliber is actually a ".40 S&W" cartridge, but we usually just call it the .40 caliber.

  • i got an .44 magnum and the normal bullets for .44's dont close the barrel, what i do?:O

  • I'm not usually a fan of wooden grips, but that is one good looking gun.

  • can anyone tell me the best way to remove leading (from shooting lead of course) because i dont want to mess up my guns

  • How much did you pay for your 629?

  • hey hickok, i was wondering, will the garrett rounds fit in the marlin?

  • great video as usual! very informative!!!!!!!!!

  • Greetings Hickok! BRANANDOOOM from NC here. I was just wondering, maybe its my imagination, but I seem to recall you knocking down most of those animal targets with one shot from the Glock 9mm and here with the .44spl it seems to take several. Why is this? Then again it could be my bad memory mashing all the Hickok45 vids I've been ingesting over the past few weeks. I enjoy the hell out of the ones I've seen so keep 'em comin'!

  • Hey, man, why in 2:24 we see "marcas registradas" in portuguese if this made in U.S.A, I ask. Thanks, greats videos!

  • I've shot the python and 629 but I liked the pythons trigger better

  • Have you gone hunting with the 4 inch barrel? I am thinking of getting a 629 or 29 with the four inch barrel to take camping for protection and would also like to hunt with it as well. Also for grips, wood vs rubber, what do you think?

  • I was recommended this or a colt python for my first revolver. What's the difference between the two?

  • @YuanMizzle python is a 357 a 629 is a 44 one is a colt one is a smith the smith is cheaper ( because the colts are out of production) and the colt python is blued while the smith and wesson model 629 is stainless... for a first revolver id get the 357 because bullets are cheaper and less recoil ( unless experienced with high recoil)

  • maybe im mistaken, but doesnt the bullet expand from a .430 diameter to a true .440 diameter in the barrel due to the lead expanding?

  • @spiffinz , Not really.

  • @hickok45 Ah, im probably thinking of the phenomenon that occurs with minie balls and the like with rifled muskets. Great shooting btw!

  • @spiffinz it can be .429 to .431 but not up to .440

  • @deadtofall666 thats really intriguing. whats the rationel behind that?

  • @spiffinz .44 is actually .429 but u can buy bullets in .430 and .431 because different manufacturers and barrels vary and some will shoot more accurately with a slightly oversized bullet

  • @spiffinz back in the day bullet diameter was measured by measuring the casing outer diameter not the actual bullet diameter. most bullets back then were similar to .22s where the bullet and casing were the same diameter. i forget the actual term for that. anyways eventually most bullet diameters were made smaller than that of their casing diameter but the old measuring system was still used for a bit. kind of like a 38 special is actually a ".357 special" due to actual bullet diameter

  • @spiffinz The .44 measurement comes from the old wild-west cartridge, the .44-40 where the measurement is actually of diameter at the end of the case, just where the bullet is (the "neck" of the case) which was .443-inch. The bullet was smaller but was used in other more modern cartridges like .44 Special and .44 magnum where the ".44" name stuck, even though it is more exactly ".429".

    .44 magnum of course had a .429 barrel for a .429 bullet.

  • I'd like to have his ammo budget. Anyway, always love the .44

  • You've got to love those candy jars filled with 44 ammo. It's like a bag of potato chips, once it's open it's hard to stop. :-))

  • ur a good shot to aquire targets that fast with a .44.

  • Thanks once again Hickok for the Fun & Informative videos.

I LOVE the .44 Magnum and I enjoy firing my Ruger Super Blackhawk 7.5" SS version.

Rose Wood Grips too...So I agree about Wood & Steel! :-)

Question: What was the Lube you were spraying? I could not get a good look at the can.

I have been using 'Gunzilla' for my cleaning with a Bore Rope and old T-Shirts.

That Quick Spray you are using would be handy at the range when either Magnums of mine get 'tight'.

    Thanks!

  • I can't legally carry pepperspray around here. (Netherlands )

  • I don't own a gun and have only fired one a couple of times in my life. Can't recall how I stumbled across your channel HOURS ago while I was taking a break from uni studying but your videos are very entertaining ! and distracting

  • Hey, Hickok, good to see you shoot a S&W Revolver. I talked about them with you a while ago because I fell in love shooting my grandpa's S&W up in Georgia. I shoot straighter with these than I do a Glock! but bullets fly everywhere when I attempted DA shooting. It had a real long pull. This revolver was more than 50 years old, though. Wonder if the new ones are different.

  • glad to hear that this gun hurts your hand too. i always feel like such a wimp afterwards.

  • That is one good looking revolver.

  • Dear hickok, please do a review of the m1911!!!!

  • god i wish i was u , ur lucky to shoot gun as i live in bloody UK england

  • turkey survived one more video !!!

  • Looks like a lot of fun, but it sure appears dirty though. Maybe because its stainless steel.

  • Hickok, what kind of reloading equipment do you use?

  • i learn a lot from you...

    tnx hickok~~~

  • you're my hero.

  • The five dislikes are people who cant afford S&W .44MAG lol!

  • could watch you all day

  • "Just six more" Your the man! Good video I like everyone of them. So keep them coming.

  • Hickok45 gonna do a little shotting today lil messing around lets see if we can reach out to the gong out there , " BINGGG BONGGG DING DONG PING PING DONG DING DING BING BING BONG PONG PING "

  • You don't have a Smith 625 just laying around do you???I would LOVE to see a video on one!!

  • I've wanted a 629 for a long time. Not cheap but what a great gun!!!

  • great shooting! your videos are really enjoyable. thanks for the vids!

  • i've got a taurus 66 .44 magnum 11 inch barrel when i load specals though it my muzzle rise to more then hickoks 4 inch 629???

  • I would love to see you shoot the gong with a .500 mag.

  • Love how you can see the bullets when you shoot the gong!

  • A cordial greeting.

Please friend you can add some subtitle to the person who does not speak English.

Your videos are very good and I would like to understand what is said in them

    Thanks.

  • i would cry if i shot one of those garretts out of a 4 inch thanks for your time and videos really enjoyable! you should do a lot of videos about 44 mags

  • you shoot pretty good for a man approaching his 90's. i'm impressed. i remember the when these pieces doubled at gun shows after a certain film debuted. i shoot a colt with warm loads only; i agree the full house loads are no fun. can't imagine firing a .50 s&w.

  • I could watch this all day

that gun is what a gun should be.

  • What sort of holster is that? Galco's Kodiak holster looks similar, but I don't think that one is it. I'm looking for one for my 5.5" Redhawk.

Speaking of, it always seems to beat my hands up. Everyone shoots 44 magnums with stock grips, and I'd like to do the same, but it just beats up my hands. Any suggestions on how to grip it? Looser is better and allows the gun to roll up (moreso with SAA style guns), but then you seem to be doing just fine with a nice tight/firm grip.

  • @DigitalSim Woops, I see the link to the holsters now. Sorry! But I'm still looking for grip tips. I'm not ready to give up my stock grips yet. Tyler T-Grips and the stock Ruger grips are just so classy!

  • been thinking forever on getting a S&W model 29 with a 4 inch barrel. This def makes me wanna go for it

  • JUST BEAUTIFUL!!! the gun of course, lol

  • Ha that ram was a perfect example of how people's "knock down power" theory went right out the window..

  • Nice to see a good ol' six shooter, especially in .44. Iconic.

  • I can't believe you let that turkey get away with that.

  • Rule#1 Don't mess with Hickok45.

    Rule#2 Don't mess with Hickok45.

    Rule#3 Don't mess with Hickok45...

I think you get the idea.

    Thanks again Hickok45...

  • Good solid piece

  • I looked this gun up and saw that it is a .44 mag version of a 686. This gun was no the one you have in this video. The one in this is video is a model 29 I think.

Do you know if this is correct or not?

  • @Gewehr7 , It's called the Model 629. These came out before the 686 came into existence if memory serves me right.

  • @hickok45 Thats cool. I never knew that. Thanks :)

  • @hickok45 I haven't seen a great shooter like u on youtube...you are # 1

  • @hickok45 hickok45 is sexy

  • @hickok45 The 629 came out in 1978.

  • @Gewehr7 , LOL, I'm sure Hickok knows what he is talking about. It's a 629. It's exactly like the Model 29 but it is the STAINLESS version. S&W usually put a 6 in front of stainless guns. For example, there is the S&W 442 .38spl and then there is the S&W 642. Same gun, different finish. I like blue guns more but them stainless ones are sure growing on me.

  • @LarryD412 Oh That makes sense. I forgot about that. I own a smith and wesson 686 pre-lock and it is amazing

  • @Gewehr7 what are you talking about a 629 exists

  • @TheBassGuitarist1 Dude I think you read it wrong. I said I looked the gun up on the Smith and Wesson website and I know it is real. I never denied its existence. By the way as you can see many people have already corrected me and told me that I was just plain wrong. Is OK

  • could u replace the ballistol with WD-40?

  • Thanx for another great clip Hickok! Now it's gone too far - time to lay my hands on one of 'em S&W 29's...

  • 44 magnum; what a gun. Great Vid!

  • Hickok45

aha the only channel I can sit and watch a full 30 min vid. :)

    Keep up the good work.

  • Wow, I love the 'pinging' of the targets very early in the video

  • my god that is a absolutely beautiful firearm!

  • homeland hahahaha your the man hickok45, THE MAN!!

  • This was made on my birthday. 15:35 you can see the bullet, fucking great. 16:41 DON'T give liberals any ideas on how to turn people against shooting.

  • No joke youd be amazing on topshot

  • now thats more like it, i like the 22, but you cant beat a 44 mag

  • pretty awesome seeing the specials in midflight before they hit the gong, and that is a sweet revolver =D

  • this is the best video you've put up yet, and i've seen all of them. 3rd watch thru lol

  • "Yeah, Baby..." ~ Is right!

    =

    V4Victory ~ TLC

  • What do you think of the Charter arms 44sp?Thought about getting one there pretty cheap

  • Hickok, could you comment on the sort of factory loads a model 29-2 should be fed? I've read everything from "only feed it .44 special, any magnum loads will shoot it loose" to "any standard (non+p) .44 mag load is fine" to "anything, even the occasional +p is fine." Picked up a factory-fired only 29-2 at a show the other day, and it will be shot, some, by me; perhaps 100 rounds a year or some such light range duty. Seems the consensus is to stick with .44 specials and 240 grain .44 mag. Thanks.

  • Berore they were banned here in the People's Republic of the United Kingdom I owned a 4" S&W 629 Mountain Gun (i.e. a lightweight .44 Magnum 4" revolver, for the uninitiated) and an 83/8" S&W 629, plus a Marlin .44 Magnum carbine. Excellent calibre. Elmer Keith was a legend and I used his Keith style wadcutter for most of my shooting. Horrible to think that they are probably part of a dishwasher or a Volvo now, as we are not safe, as a nation, to own handguns, apparently!! Phooey!!!

  • hey hickok for your next video could you bring out your .44 mag or .45 colt lever gun

  • nice video. hopefully some more sixgun videos are in the works

  • THANKS hickok45!)

  • Comment removed

  • Have not seen that gun in a while, thats such a beauty! I really do like that holster that you recieved, have you had a chance to really put it to the test by wearing it all day around the property?

  • Thanks hickok45, one of my more favorite videos, and its a new one too. You are definitely getting very good at this and improving. Its nice to see the amount of effort you guys put in your passion. Keep it up.

Love your videos here in Toronto Canada.

  • Pretzel bins sure do make great cartridge storage.

  • Damn, that's a beautiful gun.

  • That .44 special is like a bb gun hitting the gong compared to the magnum

  • hey hickok: have you done/ can you do an video on ammo? I hear you talk a lot about how different heats of ammo effect the gun, and I'd like to hear more about hollow points, fmj etc. and see what would be best. thanks!

  • How fast do you load the magnum loads? And do you get any leading?

  • 15:31

    I saw the bullet!

  • @dpchief117 yeah that happens alot

  • @dpchief117 11:07 me too! Hickok45 FTW!

  • 15:01 Ginger scratches when it itches!

  • You can really see the difference when looking at the gong after Hickok45 put some .44 specials on it. Notice the difference in hit damage on the surface. the .44 specials are way smaller.

  • @dpchief117

He has a whole video on bullets in flight bub

  • @dpchief117

    nice catch

  • your son says hes sick of holding the camera and wants to shoot a little : )

  • I always wondered why a stainless steel variant of a gun had a 6 at the beginning, yo know like m29 becomesthe m629, is there a reason for the 6 that you know of hickok?

  • Comment removed

  • very nice revolver

  • Hickok, you should enter into Top Shot on the history channel.

  • @njrobinson95 he should! i bet you he would win and show the others a thing or two about how to aim

  • @njrobinson95 In an AK-47 video of his,he said that Top Shot contacted him,but the couldnt work it out.

  • @njrobinson95 He looked into it. He's not going to.

  • @njrobinson95 No shit. He's as good as anyone I've seen on that show for sure.

  • @njrobinson95 watch his videos where he talks about his situation with that

  • @njrobinson95 , This has been discussed before. The answer was he is way to good for them and he didn't want to hurt there fillings. Ain't he a nice guy.

  • @njrobinson95 Haha hell yeah he'd be the best !!!

  • @njrobinson95 I thought the same! Specially on the speed shooting challenge!

  • Utz pretzels never looked so good ;D

  • love your wheel gun vids.

  • Whats the trigger oull on that smith, in pounds? Thanks hickok love your videos!

  • @hickok45 im farely new to pistols so i was wondering which pistol is better a Taurus .44 mag or a Taurus .454 mag

  • Why so much traffic in this video?

  • I could see the bullets

  • I noticed how dirty your hands got. I had the same experience at the range when I use to shoot my Ruger GP100. I would leave the range looking like I worked in a coal mine.
