They are both Black panthers. Panther refers to its scientific name. A leopard is Panthera pardus. A Jaguar is Panthera onca. Black variations of either are considered Black Panthers.
In certain areas a cougar/mountain lion/puma is also called at panther however this came after black leopards were known as black panthers.

In certain areas a cougar/mountain lion/puma is also called at panther however this came after black leopards were known as black panthers.
The black coat is present in jaguars and leopards, but not mountain lions there has never been a documented case of a black mountain lion, its a myth which came about most likely from mistaken identity

Actually the black panther, black leopard, or whatever you want to call it, is actually spotted also. It is black with very dark brown spots. We have a local zoo that has a black and a spotted leopard together. They are both beautiful.

@sibionic I don't get it. "Black panther" is just a name for a melanistic [the opposite of albino] big cat.
Melanistic leopards, jaguars, and less commonly, Cougars are all referred to as black panthers.
There's no species of big cat that is actually a black panther. It's just a term.

Differences:
servals have shorter tails, pointer faces and ears.
Jaguars have a longer face and larger.
Black leopards just have a recessive gene that gives them the black color. they do have spots... they're just hidden. In america we call them black panthers.

There difference is the build and hight. Jaguars are much more bigger than Leopards. on Black Jaguars u can see the spots slightly as on Black Leopard its jus one big black cat

The panther actually has spots, just like other leopards, but it's difficult to distinguish them against the black. You can only see them when the light hits them right.

there's no such animal as a black panther. its a genetic mutation causing the discoloration in the skin pigmentation. the animal is basically a leopard.

The ones in South America are Jaguars, the ones in North America are either Jaguars or Cougars and the ones in Africa/Asia are Leopards.

@xxxmondexxx It can be either, panther isn't a precise term. "Black panthers" are usually lepards with melanism but also jaguars are called that. I have the impression that panther is rarely used unless it's black. At any rate, it's an imprecise term.

I loved seeing the Black Leopard and Yellowish/Orange Spotted Leopards walking together at 1:45 its Mother Natures reminder that Color doesn't matter in the world. Racism does not exisit the Animal Kingdom. Their are many who need to see this.

This has nothing to do with Evolution, Evoultion is something that would take place within the whole Spicies in order to Evolve. If this where the case than every single Leoard born to a BLACK LEOPARD would be Black in order to surive. Spottted Leopards can give birth to both BLACK Leopards aswell as other Spotted Leopards. Learn to read MOTHERS MESSGERS when she spends them. Look with your heart not with your mind.

Elephants have been well documents of morning the death of a herd memeber or the bones of other dead elephants. Chimpanzes also show emotions. Remember that Killer Whale Tilly At Sea World You don't think there were any emotionals running thur him when he Killed his trainer. Wolves which run by a clan system just like a lot of Indigenon tribes around the world show emotion when clan members our born
