  • im using my own home made pickles for it

i hope it works as well as ones i had down south

  • @AxleKlown Good luck. We all had fun making them, even though I put the wrong amount of sugar in mine. lol

  • @CountryComesToTown what amount should u have used i had a quart jar and used a cup

  • @AxleKlown I forget but I was using a gallon jar and I think I was supposed to put a pound of sugar in and I dumped in a five gallon bag so my were syrupy sweet. Let us know how they turn out!

  • Why not use whole, sweet pickles to begin with and just add Koolaid?

  • @vechorik I guess that might work. Give it a try and see. They're fun to make and even more fun to try and get people to eat them. lol

  • Why not use whole, sweet pickles to begin with and just add Koolaid?

  • hello, my names dewey cox

  • I didn't know that in other places people don't have koolade pickles. lol

  • GROW the GOATEE BACK JIM!! :) :)

  • @gilbertblaze Maybe if I eat one of those Koolickles Gilbert. The things are still in my fridge, after two years. LOL

  • @CountryComesToTown WOW..I can imagine the smell of those LOL....

you look so different with the Goatee.. :)...either way your a handsome guy...just saying

  • You use a whole POUND of sugar for one recipe?

  • i live in minnesota now but i was born and raised in mississippi and thats where i first tried kool-aid pickles, there was this man who use to make them when i was a kid and i absolutely love them, you let them set and really let the kool-aid soak all the way through, then put them in the fridge and let them get cold before eating and they taste absolutely fantastic, i thought about it the other day now i'm trying to make my own, just put'em together yesterday and so the wait begins, lol

  • @lovelydiva06 Hey that's great. I hope they're good. You should make a video of them! -Jim

  • You never did your koolickles follow up video.. my guess is they weren't pleasing to your palate. =)

  • How'd they turn out, Jim?

  • I think I will try this too

  • never heard of it - gotta try it!

  • Are they really any good?

  • Ok... Its been a week... How are they??

    Julie

  • that is very unhealthy....plus sound nasty.

  • that sounds disgusting, but maybe i'll try them and share them with 'friends' ;)

  • We are SOOO going to try this :+)

  • I never thought of Kool Aid with brine Kosher Dills... that part would be OK, but with all that sugar I'd need a tanker truck full of insuline. Be well, Jim...

  • I haven't made mine yet. I'm doing the kick-off party for "Frugal Friday" on the 26th and will post on the following friday. I've mentioned it to a couple of my frugal friends, but they don't seem too excited... oh well, I think it's going to be great.

  • Send me a message to remind me when you post the first video. This thing won't let us subscribe until you post a video. -Jim

  • Tori ripped you a new one!! Her video Rocks. You asked for it. That was cool. Careful Jim.

  • I'm going to have to try this. A week, huh?

  • Beth I think you can cut it down to 2 or 3 days if you use the spears. Be careful though. Richochet and I both screwed up and poured the whole four pounds of sugar in instead of the one pound it called for. LOL

  • Wooo! I can't wait to see, Jim!!

  • Hey Blizzee. We'll give them a try in a few days! LOL

  • I have never heard of that. Can't wait to see how you like them. You should do pickled eggs sometime.

  • Hey Charlene. I think you should make up a batch and try them with us. LOL Thanks for watching! -Jim

  • I might just do that when I get back from vacation. I might let my family try them at a cookout. lol So you use 1lb of sugar instead of 5lbs right?

  • Yes Richochet and I screwed up and used the whole bag but you are supposed to use just 1 pound. LOL Leave it to the men to screw up the recipe. LOL -Jim

  • I am going to be right by the Mount Olive Pickle plant this week so I am going to stop in there little store and buy me a big ole jar of pickles and make me some of these. I think there going to be good!

  • I can't wait to watch you make some koolickles. We're starting a koolickle revolution I think. LOL -Jim

  • mt Olive pickle company is 30 minutes from me in North carolina i know you didn't mean it as a shout out but I saw it :)

  • Alley please go up there and film it while you are buying the ingredients to make some koolickles. LOL I'm counting on you to make a batch and try them out on the locals. LOL -Jim

  • Think I'll give this a try, but use splenda instead of the sugar...should work...I've made other pickles with it. Let ya know how it turns out!! Thanks, Grams

  • Make us a video reply so that we can all enjoy the fun. Thanks for watching! -Jim

  • My grandmother used to make something similar. Never knew what she put in them, but it might've been Kool-Aide. They were soo good. I think I may try this one Jim!! :)

  • Tony I'm counting on a video reply from you. And I think you should choose some exotic flavor. LOL Thanks for watching! -Jim

  • I don't even know if you can buy dill pickles here, i have never even tasted one

    x hugs x

  • Trish surely you've had dill pickle slices on hamburgers? ...or maybe not. I think you should give these a try! LOL -Jim

  • At MacDonalds, if you get a burger there is usually a slice or two of gherkin in there, i presume it's the same thing or similar?

  • Trish this is interesting. I've never heard of or tried gherkin but Wikipedia says it's in the same species family as the cucumber, which we Americans use to make pickles. So, I suppose they are very similar.

  • I have just been to my supermarket and i specifically looked for pickles and all there was was some pickled gherkins, and such a tiny jar of them, nothing like your huge jar. I guess the British don't eat them much but i'd like to try them, in fact i'd like to try all sorts of food you eat over there

    x hugs x

  • Hmm, I just might. Not a fan of sugar. I'm usually a sugar free guy but its only pickles, right?

    Thanks for the recipe.

  • Hey Dave. Well why not use splenda? You should make a batch and do a video reply. LOL -Jim

  • I'm wondering why they don't just call them Koolcumbers?

  • Hey Robert. I'm thinking you will have the perfect koolickle video response. LOL You are so creative and I'm thinking you will start a whole koolickle revolution! LOL -Jim

  • There have been some great video replies so I hope you will all go up to the top of the page and look just below my video and you will see all the video responses. We've got people from all over making koolickles so I hope yo will go watch their videos and comment. I know they would appreciate you doing that. Thanks! -Jim

  • I'll try it out Jim-I'll go to the store tomorrow and start them up and I bet I can get my moms life net group to try them and I'll get it on video for you!!-Jamie

  • Jamie that's great! Make sure to make a video and post it as a video response here. Three people have already done that and their videos are great. Thanks for watching! I can't wait to see your koolickles. -Jim

  • I don't know Jim, it sounds kinda gross.

  • Come on now Tammy. You might like em! LOL -Jim

  • Hey Jim,

Have you tried Fried Dill Pickles. They are made out of Dill picle slices and fried just like the green tomatoes. Yum Yum, I'm not to sure bout the koolickles.

  • Hey Sue. Yeah, I've had the fried pickle slices and like them. Someone mentioned fried jalapeno slices so I want to try them next. Good to see you. -Jim

  • Mama made sweet dills like that, but not with the koolade. Mama also brought the juice to a boil. I think it sped up the process. Thanks Jim, but I'm doing the low carb thing and if I go for something sweet I ain't thinkin' pickles!

  • Hey Jay. May I've lost a ton on that diet in the past. At the current moment it's all back so I need to get back on it or something. LOL I can understand, you don't want to blow it on a sweet pickle. LOL Good to see you buddy. -Jim

  • Koolwinkies are really good too. Substitute pickles with Twinkies...

    Frickin' awesome!!!!!! :)

  • Maybe that will be my next freaky food vlog Russ. LOL Are you serious? Have you ever had them? -Jim

  • No.. I was just joking Jim. I was thinking of all of the different combos you could make with Kool Aid. Koolorn dogs anyone?

  • Koolaid Corndogs sound pretty good as long as I get to add mustard. LOL People seem to love these weird food vlogs. LOL -Jim

  • Those looked fun to make. I can't eat pickles i am allergic to them. Take care. ~roy

  • Roy I'm surprised that I'm not because I'm allergic to everything else in this world. LOL Thanks for watching. -Jim

  • I am going to second Amanda's comment (blubutterfly07) - I am will wait to see if you like them first! While you were explaining, I googled koolickles and up came a picture of a bright red pickle. I remember that episode of Alton Brown finding the kool-aid pickles in the deep south as he was starting off on his motorcycle adventure. Can't wait to see how they turn out! - roc

  • Now come on Roc. I was counting on you. LOL You're exactly right. He was on a motorcycle and I had forgotten that until you mentioned it. They'll be ready in a week and we'll given them a try. Hope you are having a great weekend! -Jim

  • Jim I am anxious to see how yours turn out but i am still not up to kitchen stuff yet..

  • Hey Dolores. We'll give them a try in a week. LOL How's the knee? Good to see you! -Jim

  • Knee is coming along slowly but surely. Trying to build muscle so I can walk without a walker. got another couple of weeks at least..

  • I just posed a comment over on your video about the subject. Was it a knee replacement? My 80 year old step-mother had one of those last year and is now on her knees doing yard work. LOL Anyway, wanted you to know that brighter days are ahead. -Jim

  • Do you use the pickle juice or water?

  • You mix the sugar and kool-aid with the pickle juice and pour that back over the pickles. NO WATER

  • Thanks Jim I am making them tonight I am going to make cherry and lime.

  • Richochet if you use the spears, they might be ready in two or three days. You could sample them after a couple of days to see.

  • Can you use spears Jim? I for sure am going to make them and I will video the process and attach it to this video.

  • Hey Richochet. Yeah, you can use spears but they might be sweeter. I think the bigger ones will end up sweet on the outside and sour in the middle. But, I haven't tried them yet. LOL -Jim

  • Some of my old stomping grounds are in the Ms Delta. Thanks for video.

  • I love traveling through that area. The people and countryside are just great. Thanks for watching. -Jim

  • If you are ever down around Port Gibson do not miss the Ruins of Windsor. Also check out Smith County Watermelons.

  • I've been through there but will be sure to check out those sites next time. I love Natchez! -Jim

  • I don't even want to go to the store today.. between hurricane and school supply shopping, the stores are going to be a zoo!! The shelves in many local markets (from what I'm hearing) are already empty! ughh!! But if I'm a lucky girl, I'll find that quart of pickles and packet of koolaide (yeah, I'm cutting down your recipe).

BTW, good morning! I stayed up WAY too late last nigh! *yawn*

  • Don't worry Angie. They'll all be in the milk and bread isles and not in the pickle and kool-aid isles. LOL Strap yourself down and hold on. You'll be able to survive on koolickles if the power goes out! -Jim

  • You were right Jim.. There were still plenty of pickles and kool-aid! I'm a lucky girl!!

You strap down too Jim, it looks like y'all are gonna get some decent winds and rains from Fay too!!

  • Jim that sounds so gross!

ill wait to see how you like em before i think much about trying to make them myself lol.

    have a good one

  • I'll bet you would love some sweet and sour kool-aid pickles LOL. It has to be better than 14 ounces of sweetened condensed milk. LOL -Jim

  • seven SEVEN ounces... remember i wimped out at the half way mark!

and im absolutely positive that they will be better than the condensed milk... but im not eating them till after you do!

  • LOL I screwed up and put 4 pounds of sugar instead of 1 pound so they may be as sweet as the condensed milk. lol

  • LMAO... 4 POUNDS, omg your going to go into a diabetic coma

  • Oh that's great to find someone that has actually made them before. I'm wondering now if they might be better if you didn't slice them in half so they would be more sour in the middle. Thanks for watching. -Jim

  • Hey everybody GO WATCH the attached video reply by davidzackholmes who is David in Atlanta. He's taking up the challenge and his video takes us on a ride to and through the grocery store to get the ingredients. Great video so go watch, comment and subscribe. -Jim

  • I hope you enjoy them.I don't like them but I don't like any kind of sweet pickles.

  • Hey Angel. I don't like sweet pickles either but I think these are supposed to end up sweet on the outside and sour in the middle. So, it's an interesting combination. I'll let you know in a week. LOL -Jim

  • I'll wait till you let me know and probably take your word for it lol.I don't know i'm not a risky person when it comes to food.I dunno though I do like pickled beats.Who knows I may give it a try if you say they are good. But if you lead me wrong on this i'll never trust you again lmao.J/k

  • Solie that's true. It would make some fine sweet tea! lol -Jim

  • Sounds kinda gross to me, but I make my own pickles and am more than just a bit picky.

    D

  • Hey Daryl. What kind of pickles do you make. When I was a kid back in Alabama, we used to make bread and butter pickles which were way to sweet for my taste. But most folks loved em. Thanks for watching! -Jim

  • Hey Jim, we do mostly kosher dills and some sweet pickles but I halved the ammount of sugar in the recipe cause none of us need it!

  • Daryl I'm thinking these koolickles might be good without the sugar. I tend to like dill pickles and not sweet pickles anyway. lol

  • Sounds like you have to have some sugar to get the "candy" effect but I think there is way too much in the recipe.

  • WOW, this Yankee has never heard of these! Interesting, and I am looking forward to the vid where you eat them! A WHOLE bag of sugar??? OMG.

I watched Alton Brown go up the Mississippi, but I don't remember these. Gosh, this guy will eat anything! lol Interesting show, isn't it?

    Have a great weekend!

  • Hey Barb. Hey it's all about the video. LOL I'll only eat anything if it give me a good excuse to make a YouTube video. LOL Thanks for watching. Tune in one week from now for the results. -Jim

  • I think I may try these!

May start a new trend in Canada, lol.

    Tammy

  • Hey Tammy. That would be funny if we started a huge koolicle trend of internet koolickle eaters. LOL Thanks for watching. -Jim

  • ya know i'm beginning to think this does sound good - maybe i'll try some with strawberry

  • Hey Ruthe. Strawberry would be good. You could use any flavor I think. Let us know how they come out. LOL We'll start a giant wave of koolickle eating tubers! LOL -Jim

  • ohhhhh, well thanks for clearing that up. lol Jim so ironic you do this recipe vlog because the other day I was searching for Nathan's dill pickles from NYC) online and I ran across those koolaid pickles and the NY times article on it! not a huge pickle person; I do like them. Have you ever had them fried? I haven't but GrannyMae was talking about them fried and how good they are.

  • Hey Susan. Oh I'm glad you saw the article. Yeah, I've had fried pickle slices and they were pretty good. I want to try fried jalapeno slices next. Thanks for watching! -Jim

  • Sounds interesting. I kept salivating everytime you brought the pickles into view. LOL! :o)

  • Hey Jason. You may have to make up batch! lol -Jim

  • Hey! Get your nose out of my armpit!

  • Eww!

  • That's a LOT of sugar! LOL I'll wait to see how things turn out before I even begin to consider making these. :-)

  • Hey Caylyn. I was thinking that it was a lot of sugar also. I'll let you know if they're too sweet. -Jim

  • Jim,

That is strange...WOW...I have NEVER heard of them...I am SO interested in seeing what your reaction is when the Koolickles are ready....

    Ronnie

  • Hey Ronnie. I like pickles and cherry kool-aid but I'm not so sure about the combination. LOL Thanks for watching! -Jim

  • I saw Alton Brown eat one of these Koolickles on his Feasting on Asphalt series....they looked rather intersting. Tell us how they taste.

  • Heyyyyyyyy Diana! Good Morning! *big hugs*

  • Heyyyyyyyyyyy Angie. BIG hugs right back at you

  • Diane that show is what inspired me to want to try them. I'll let you know in a week when they're ready. -Jim

  • I love watching Alton Brown, he does some cool stuff.

  • Hi Billy - did a strange sweet pickly smell attract you over here?! LOL!

  • LOL randomwritings.. hahah.. I think what brought him here was when Jim said "nipples".. Billy got all perked up!

  • Well crud .. my comment didn't stick. I kinda agree with OweMe1.. yadda yadda. Call me chicken... lol

  • Aw, comeon Martha, you and OweMe need to have a little adventure in your life!! give it a try!! BTW, I'm only going to buy a quart of pickles.. use 1/4 cup of sugar and 1/2 a packet of koolaide.. just in case I hate it, I won't have a gallon of it left over!!!

  • Sue says they are great. lol Thanks for watching! -Jim

  • I have heard of these on a news program. sounds good, i don't like pickles but these sound good.

  • Hey Texasred. Thanks for watching. -Jim

  • I'm off to bed but will continue with this fun thread tomorrow! LOL -Jim

  • Rest with Angels Jim!! *hugs* Yeah, this was fun, talk to you tomorrow!!

  • You're playing with Glenna too Billy.. keep the women folk straight young man!! But you are right, we're off balance.. me thinks Jim needs to join our lil' online games.. the more the merrier!!

  • Oh my! I read the description and got confused when I got to the Jewish Dill but I won't ask how you differentiate them! Then it got kind of worse - I think I will pass on this recipe sorry!

  • Oh come on now random. I know how daring you are are! I think you should give us an English perspective on these tangy delights. LOL -Jim

  • Ha ha! Well I just tried to find the equivalent of Kool-Aid in the UK and the only thing I can find that's close is First-Aid which might be the sequel!

  • pm me your address and I will send you some Koolaid

  • Hmmm, maybe Jim.......maybe....... =)

    Sandi

  • Sandi this is right up your alley! I know you can do this and you have the family to test them on! LOL ...it's perfect. -Jim

  • Ok, but I have an idea...Walmart has a brand of Crystal Lite sugar free drink (picture pre-sweetened no-sugar Cherry Kool-aid). Well, I think I might try to make it with that instead of the full sugar stuff. If it doesn't work, I'll try it the other way. Jonny is a HUGE pickle freak. So, I'm betting that he'll love this.

    :) TTYL Jim,

    Sandi

  • Sandi that's a great idea. A pound of sugar is pretty crazy I'll admit. I was thinking you could use splenda instead. If you make them, make sure you post it as a video reply so that we can all see it. Thanks for watching. -Jim

  • Now this sounds interesting...hmmm.

I might just have to try this out,but I'll have to do it next week, this week is booked with appointments with kids going back to school and all =]]

    Thanks for sharing this Jim.

    Take care & hugs!!

  • Blondbabe they are simple to make and I know you'll be at the grocery store. So, grab a jar of pickles, some Kool-Aid, and sugar and whip them up. The kids will think you are cool! LOL -Jim

  • Billy at .19 cents a pack, we can afford to waste just a little bit of Kool-Aid. LOL I'm counting on a goo Southern boy like you to mix up a batch of these Delta Treats. LOL -JIm

  • "goo".. are you tongue tied tonight too Jim? LOL

  • It's the pickles that have me all puckered up!

  • Jim said "nipple"!!

    *gasping*

  • Fried or Pickled? ...same price!

  • Oh sh*t.. I don't even know how to reply to that .. but I'm about 50 shades of red right now!

  • I'm thinking fried! By the way, a subscriber has turned me on to fried jalapeno rings. Yum. ...I've also had fried dill pickle slices. ...is that why I am always on a diet? Can't someone please invent a fried foods diet? Billy and I would pay big bucks!

  • Oh Jim, dieting is so 2007.. squishy is the new thing for '08 darlin'! So let's all fry up some goodies and get squishy together!

  • Lord knows, I'm styling squishy style in '08. LOL Pass me a Little Debbie! LOL -Jim

  • LOL, here's your Little Debbie Jim ~ I've topped it with Whipped Cream, Chocolate Syrup and a Cherry!

    Go Squishy or Bust! ;-)

  • fried dill pickles are so good!

  • I think that is going to have to be a video for a future Freaky Food Friday video. LOL -Jim

  • Oh hush, you're not the boss of me!!

  • No Billy YOU need 1's!!! haha

*gigglin* you fall for that everytime!

    Actually Glenna needs them!!

  • Oh whatever Billy! Now get back to the game before I take your turn away from you!! By the way.. I can play the game and type in complete sentences!! Impressive huh?? lol

  • It sounds gross, but I'm game!! I have a lot of videos to make huh??? Starting with the sweetened condensed milk; followed then with the marmite video (since I won a jar of it); then this one.. ackk!! I'm thinkin I'm gonna have a tummy ache!! Heck, I should do all three in one video.. that should be good for a hurl or two! *smile*

Loved your video as always Jim!!

Feel good videos are much needed and exactly what the doctor ordered!!

    *big hugs*

    Angie

  • Angie I promise you, Country's southern snacks will be good for you! My country treats are relaxing and good for the soul. LOL So, pucker up and bite down on Country's cherry pickle. LOL -Jim

  • *blushing* my oh my Jim!!! Now you know how totally naughty that sounded!! I liked it! hahahaha

I did make your fried green tomatoes tonight.. YUMMY!!!

  • What in the hell are you and Billy doing up at this hour? Come to think of it, what in the hell am I doing up at this hour discussing pickles? LOL

  • Me, Billy and Glenna (HiddenFromView) are on a three way phone call while playing online Yatzy.. wanna join us or would you rather have a private pickle chat with me?.. *wink wink*

  • Did you make a video of the fried green tomatoes?

  • I ate'ted them too fast to make a video Jim! *hanging* head low in shame!! I'm sowwy!! *big hugs*

  • Sounds different for sure. I am allergic to dill so I can not make these. I am going to be watching to see what everyone else thinks of em. Thanks for sharing this kind of thing. Hope you have a great weekend. HUGS xoxo

  • Peggy it's interesting that you are allergic to dill. I'm allergic to almost everything on the planet but not dill. We'll, give them a try and let you know what they taste like. LOL Thanks for watching. -Jim

  • And I thought Pickles couldn't get any worse LOL I might just make these to torture my family with though. And what did you go and dump sugar on your self for..you know you can't get any sweeter Jim :)

  • Tori you are cracking me up! LOL I think it would be the perfect food for you to torture your family. LOL You'll have to let us know what they said. They might love em! LOL -Jim

  • Sounds interesting and weird all at the same time! Let us know how they are!

  • Hey Judy. The Koolicles will be ready in a week I think. I'll do an online tasting. Maybe you should mix up a batch and give them a try. LOL -Jim

  • Well alright then! Jim, in the name of adding even more luster to our already shining Southern cuisine's glory I accept the challenge. Now the trouble is going to be trying to get these koolickles made before I consume the entire jar of regular old dills. Dang but I love those things!

If these koolickles go good with grits we got ourselves a winner!

  • Dicom I've never tried them but can't wait! We'll know in a week my friend! LOL -Jim
