How nice! Wonderfully played - it sounds as if Chopin is paraphrasing the con dolore theme from the prelude to second act of Bellinis Norma. And since the he was fascinated by the bel canto divas it is very likely that he had heard Norma, which premiered in 1831, when he composed op. 25.
Amazing! It does work as a cello piece and Kosower does a credible job. Chopin , the greatest composer to date for piano, also, like Wagner, a notorious anti-Semite and revolutionary (seems like an oxymoron). this was at a time when there were already a significant number of Jews, like Mendelssohn, active in artistic and intellectual circles of the day.
fortunatly for me i specialize in forte piano, cello, violen, and the clarient i finished the moscow conservatory, for all of these insturments. this piece has overwhlemd me with the cello so much that i have orderd the sheet music for the piano and cello toghether, the sheet has one flat, which is a B. this means that it is in D minor. if it was in e minor it would of had an F sharp writtin in the score. but thank you for your opinion on the e minor. hopefully ill do a duet
Don't forget that there are many transcriptions of this. I think I have the version you speak of, which is in d minor, but the version he is using (by Alexander Glazunov) is in a different key. I am almost certain it is in a different key judging on his finger positions, and the fact I tried to play along with him, and it sounded awful (due to the incorrect pitches, although I'm not very good at cello lol).
According to the solo piano sheet music, you would be correct--the melody transfers from hand to hand (and therefore cello to piano)--but I think as this arrangement features the cello as the focal instrument, more piano may have interfered. I'm can be quite the Chopin purist, and I surprised myself by adoring this performance exactly as-played. Bravo!
Beautifully done. I'm trying to improve my playing of the original etude, and it definitely helps to hear this.

The cello is really great, but I would appreciate if the piano was little bit louder in some parts ...
